  1. There are several reasons why 13 reasons is problematic. It presents suicide and self harm as the only option when you are struggling. It presents suicide and self harm in the context of "I'll show them" which plays on the feeling teens have that they will somehow get to witness the impact of their death on he people on their lives. It also has been shown in studies that when kids see graphic depictions of self harm and suicide, it increases rates of those behaviors and makes them more likely to do them. So basically the show says to kids: "hey if you are pissed at your life, here are some behaviors you can do that will make you cool and powerful and really let everyone know how pissed you are. Also here's how to do them successfully. Won't it feel great to watch everyone suffer?" its a bad scene.
  2. Yeah its bad bad bad right now. between Trump effect bullying, kids whose parents are getting deported, families who are afraid they will lose their insurance, and 13 reasons, well, IL is a mess. I really hope the school district invites us back. The caseworkers desperately need more support and more space to process.
  3. Crazy day is crazy. I am at job 2 and feeling fulfilled and validated after doing a series of trauma fatigue groups for a school who has had 3 completed suicides this year. it was hard content and the team was really struggling, but doing the work felt really really good and rejuvenated a part of me that was feeling beat down. I love to do process groups with adults. I need to remember to seek out work that feels generative to me. it might help make my whole busy life more manageable.
  4. Well I have been quiet all challenge because I have been BUSY!!!!!! My work life has exploded into a crazy amount of paperwork, new clients, and full full therapy days. On top of that, I have been having back troubles from all the sitting in non ergonomic chairs and as such I have had to suspend my exercise goal in favor of a yoga one for this month. I know what to do do help my back and once I re-establish daily stretching, I can add the cardio back in and the two will absolutely reinforce each other. I want to be conservative and keep from pulling any muscles, because that would put me back at square one and The Proving is coming in only a few months! Here is aquick run down of my other goals: WEEK ONE SUMMARY Quest 1: Surviving as an Outcast: Challenge Goal: Lose 4% of my body weight - Log food on myfitnesspal daily I have been logging on paper in my datebook because of business, but the logging is DONE! - Pack my lunch for work 5/5 days DONE! it has been raining noon stop so I have been doing a lot of soups. this makes lunch packing SUPER easy. Goal 2: Train for the Proving. Challenge Goal: Complete Darebee: "Foundations Light" daily SUSPENDED- I am doing 10 - 20 minutes of yoga daily focusing on suppleness in my spine, hips and shoulders. if my pain is at a 3 or lower daily by this Sunday, I will add the darebee program back in. Goal 3: Becoming the Seeker. Challenge Goal: Do one Duolingo Spanish lesson daily I have been bad about this. 50% Goal 4: Collect the Histories of the Metal World. Challenge Goal: write at least 100 words from a writing prompt 3 x per week. DONE! Between now and Sunday I will post the ones from last week AND the ones from this week, totaling 6. I am really enjoying this. one of my big burnout issues is loosing touch with creativity, so this is really important. So all in all not too bad. Good even. I am going to work very hard to make time to post every day. I might go so far as to schedule it or give myself a bonus mini challenge next week to be more transparent and use the site and all you awesome folks better. I hope your challenges are going well!
  5. thanks! I am feeling cautiously optimistic. I really like the idea of the story for my forum character and I plan on doing that in the long term. I want to do the Darebee hero's journey routine over the next few challenges and write a story along with my progress there. Welcome aboard!
  6. Right? I have a long way to go before I can train the way I am accustomed to; I have spent 6 years getting a doctorate and now have a desk job. Out of shape is a goal I am fighting to attain still this way I have a consistent low impact workout that will get me moving again. I want to do the hero's journey series this year and write a story for my profile name to follow the workouts. Hopefully this will get me ready for that.
  7. OMG I think of this every time I am struggling.
  8. I am always down for pet pics. good luck on getting OUTSIDE!
  9. Woo WOo! I I love your challenge. It is amazing how fast little things add up and all of a sudden just this once is every day. I share your bedtime woes too- on time should not be subjective, and yet...
  10. I love the simplicity of this. Also Pooh is my all time fave! Following along.
  11. looking really good! Not every challenge has to be super complex and intense to be beneficial. Good luck with your thinky brain. If you need help coming up with stuff to try, let me know and I will use my psychologist powers to dig up some techniques for you
  12. Well in retrospect this challenge did not go very well. We had guests in week 2 and 3 that derailed our eating plan and made it challenging to get things done. Depression reared it's ugly head and my ED symptoms had a big rise. I DID consistently do Spanish practice and I also did most of my writing prompts, which I felt pretty good about. I learned that I need to keep posting even if I'm posting failures. I need to stay accountable and keep getting back on the horse. I need to treat all my goals as important and real- there is more to fix and build in my life than just weight loss and physical fitness, and even if I mes sup one thing one day, I can still succeed in other areas. I have to be honest with myself. Logging is pointless if you lie. Overall, my grade for the challenge was a C. I am giving myself a level up for taking the step of trying and making a go of it, but any future leveling up will be earned by actual challenge success. If you want to follow me, the new thread is up here: Hodhi vs the Machines
  13. This game was amazing and I am using Aloy's journey as a structure because in August I have my very own Proving coming up in the form of a vacation with my skinny fit sister. I CAN DO THIS Quest 1: Surviving as an Outcast: in order to survive without a tribe Aloy needed to learn to hunt, gather cook and care for herself. I need to relearn some of that too. I want to revamp my diet so that I can lose weight. I am very unhappy with how my body looks and with the exhaustion and general discomfort that carrying all this weight around with me entails. I want to have more freedom of motion, more options at the clothing store, and less self consciousness in my skin. Challenge Goal: Lose 4% of my body weight - Log food on myfitnesspal daily - Pack my lunch for work 5/5 days Goal 2: Train for the Proving. Aloy trained for her entire life to be fit enough to win her way back into the tribe. My Proving is taking a different form. In August my sister and I are going to England. I want to be able to keep up with her on hikes and tours and I want to be comfortable on the plane and on rides or buses. No matter what I need to raise my endurance and cardiovascular health by then. Challenge Goal: Complete Darebee: "Foundations Light" daily Goal 3: Becoming the Seeker. In her role as a Seeker for the Nora, Aloy has to go outside of the sacred lands and learn about new cultures. I need to broaden my language competency to make me a more versatile and employable therapist. I want to become fluent in Spanish. I was fluent in college, so methinks it will come back faster than picking another language to focus on. Challenge Goal: Do one Duolingo Spanish lesson daily Goal 4: Collect the Histories of the Metal World. I love stories and I have been writing in some from or another almost as long as I can remember. Depression did a pretty good job of eating all my creative juices in the past 10 years and I know that if I will ever complete this dream, I have to get back in the habit of writing again and I need to rebuild my skills. My goal is to take a stab at NaNoWriMo in November. Challenge Goal: write at least 100 words from a writing prompt 3 x per week.
  14. hey what is BBWW? I tried to google it and all sorts of things that were dubious came up, no workouts.
  15. thanks so much for the support guys! I am having a better day today. Still did not cook breakfast but packed my lunch and did all my tasks and I have got to say, doing the things I'm supposed to be doing feels really really good.
