  1. Yeah beeches. Woot! Woot! Hit 165.8 this morning. The Power of Habit is paying off. Xena, thanks for the input. My mind is going round and round on how I want to change my routine. Part of me wants to go the strength route focusing on heavy lifting (my heavy), primarily on things like chest and back. That usually gets me burnt out quickly though. Part of me wants to kettle bells just to do something different. Another part says go lighter but move fast between sets and get a cardio boost. The thought of it reminds me of the song Round and Round by Ratt.
  2. No, I'm not from Canada. I just enjoy learning about new places and where people are from. I'm from middle Illinois, Peoria area which is about 3hrs south of Chicago. I'm not even sure that I even think of recruits as being part of a challenge. I think of it as just being here long enough to join a challenge team. I'm sure I'd like Canada. I enjoy rock climbing, hiking, camping, snow skiing, and whitewater kayaking. I'm sure Canada has all of them.
  3. Thanks Michelle. I try to keep everything but my habits pushed back. w/o - 1/2 blitz w/o wt - 166.2 Was my day a success? Yes. Kept all KH's. After almost 3 months, I need to change my w/o. I only did 1/2 of my blitz w/o tonight, my mind just wasn't in it. Might try a kettle bell routine or a strength routine. Probably kettle. Thinking of using a personal trainer once at the gym just to help me setup a routine. My mind is just burnt out on doing the same routine repeatedly.

  5. I see lots of people who are losing wt cause there pants are always sliding down and their underwear show. You will be stylin! Congrats on the loss.
  6. Grrrrr! Was hoping to break through to the 165's this morning but only hit 166.2. Oh well, it will happen with a day or 2. Success is measured in the creation of habits, not daily wt fluctuations. Habits are the means. The weight will take care of itself.
  7. There is a type in these characters box. I had to type in 4 numbers that I read. I was on another fitness site that had way more spam. It did not have the type in these characters box. The main problem w/ adding more hurdles to getting into the site is people sometimes just give up trying to get in. Thats especially true for technology impaired such as myself. So far I've been pretty happy w/ how low the amount of spam is.
  8. I just discovered almond butter (bought my first jar) on apple about a wk ago. Love it. Plus I add shopped walnuts and pecans. Incredible snack. Do you boulder on natural rock or at a climbing gym? I got started climbing 2 years ago. I agree w/ your comment above. To me, wt lifting is the means to the end. I'm an adrenaline junky and wt lifting and other exercise gives me the ability to participate (at 54, thats getting more important every year). Don't happen to be an Illinois climber do you?
  9. Not that it has anything to do with fitness, but I try to learn a little something about other cultures whenever I meet people from a different country (even online). Here are 2 things I found interesting: Marie Curie (Manya Sklodowska) was born in Warsaw (Warszawa), Poland, on November 7, 1867. She moved to Paris in early 1880 and married Frenchman Pierre Curie in 1895. With her husband, she discovered the elements polonium (Po), named after her native Poland, in the summer of 1898 and, soon thereafter, radium (Ra). She is credited for coining the term “radioactivity†and won her first Nobel Prize in Physics with her husband and another colleague, Henri Becquerel, in 1903. Following Pierre’s death in 1906, Marie was appointed to her husband’s professorship and was the first woman to teach at Paris’ Sorbonne University. She won a second Nobel Prize in 1911 for her research in the isolation of pure radium.y Poles have won a total of 17 Nobel Prizes (more than Japan, China, India, or Australia), including four Peace Prizes and five in Literature. All the more reason for you to Ace those exams. You are in good company.
  10. Red Ryder wagons are very durable, but a bit small.
  11. w/o - placeholder (10 squats) wt - 166.2 Thanks Evermist, Learning Duhiggs process for creating habits has been the most life changing thing I have ever done (with the exception of marriage and kids of course). It's an incredible feeling to be able to stick to any change I want to make. No more start overs, respawns, u-turns, etc. For the first time in my life, I've been able to decide on changes and make them stick. My whole life before this its been a roller coaster of starting and stopping things I wanted to change. Was my day a success? Yes. Kept all KH's. Back was stiff. Decided to force myself you use a placeholder and give the body a break. 10 freebody squats. At the end of the night I weighed 167.0. Since I normally lose slightly over a pound, pretty sure I'll be in the 165's tomorrow. Gonna be some wooting when that happens!

  13. 1 rep would be the all out or near max wt. That's something you would do at the end of multiple low reps sets for the sole purpose of increasing your strength. Power lifters in particular do multiple sets of low reps, but even they don't do 1rep on there first set. The old standby of 3x10 is what I would recommend for someone just getting back into lifting, at least for the first month. Then after about 1-2 months, start increasing the wt on the 3rd set so that you can no longer do 10reps in good form (getting close to failure) on the final set. After 3-4 months of that, start zeroing in what you like doing, such as lower reps for strength, etc.
  14. Possibly he took the sum of the individual sandwiches as the total calories. But then he removed the meat from 2 of them and added it to the other sandwich, but forgot to subtract for the buns and condiments that were not used. Still going to be one heck of a lot of cals. Probably as many cals as he needs to consume in one day. I'm thinking one bite would fill me up.
  15. Was today a success? Yes. Kept all KH's. Wt was 166.2 this morning. Hoping to break in to the 165's in the morning. The effect of the habits is really showing. Wt's are increasing in the gym. Up to about 5 3/4 pullups (from about 2 at start of challenge). Pant's are feeling looser due to the 4lb wt loss (started challenge on week 2. Kicking this challenges azz.
  16. Mar 21 Can't copy and paste all my KH's cause I can't get into google chrome tonight. For some reason, copy and paste don't work for me in IE. Kept all KH's. Did my tread + pullups + stretch routine today. I often way myself at night cause I find it interesting how much I lose in wt over night. Tonights wt is 167.8 which my I have a shot of being under 166 in the morning. Wt is definitely dropping.
  17. I find that focusing on only one thing at a time and getting it right beats trying to make multiple changes at the same time. Keep up with the exercise and count each day of exercise a success.
  18. This morning I decided to use a placeholder w/o and have a nice easy day. Just couldn't bring myself to do it. Did my 5min tread + pullups + stretch routine. Once exercise becomes a habit, the mind just keeps reminding you to go w/o. Powerful stuff.
  19. Glad your still at it. Definitely focus on your education over blogging on internet.
  20. I've always envied distance runners, even though I've always hate running. Something about seeing someone running out on a country road in the middle of nowhere and knowing they were covering great distances using only their bodies is inspiring. I always give them a thumbs up. Your w/o looks great. I also train for my sports. White water kayaking takes a lot of core strength and rock climbing takes a lot of finger and back strength so I focus on those.
  21. What I like about getting older is seeing what kind of condition I'm in compared to most of my old classmates. At 54, I participate in adrenaline sports like white water kayaking and rock climbing which blow away high school sports where you were judged based on how well you could move a ball from one place to another. Something about moving balls around just never excited me.

Yes. Kept all KH's. Got my 1hr of work training in (KH5). No bread (KH6). Back is stiff but not hurting as much. One day a week habits are more difficult to keep than everyday habits. You tend to keep putting them off. Going to try to move getting KH6 up a little earlier in the week to allow time to get it done in case of a super busy schedule. Kept every habit since their inception date. If anyone is reading this and wants to hear a little more about Duhiggs process for creating habits let me know. Using the process to take the changes I want to make and turn them into habits is creating a huge change in my life. I used to yoyo on and off fitness kicks. Now, I focus on one thing at a time and get it right. The cue/routine/reward process sounds weird, but this is exactly what marketers use to get you hooked on things you never knew you needed (and probably don't). Just ask yourself, how many changes have you made in the last 5 years that have actually stuck? When I say stuck, I mean you did them consistently as many times/week as you originally intended and you did them every week (not just during your health kicks). For me it was zero. Now compare that to how many things you tried to change over the last 5 years. For me, it was a lot. I started using this mid-December 2014. I've just added my 6th change. Each of these becomes a habit. If I could give only one piece of advise for getting healthy, it would be to read Duhiggs book and give it an earnest try. (And no, unfortunately I do not make any money off Duhigg book sales. lol)

  24. Well, I googled spamming and I understand how email spamming works. It requires no work, just buying email addresses. But this site requires a person to work. The have to physically open the site, go to the sign in, enter some info, and type in a # that changes every time. That does not seem lucrative as opposed to buying email lists.
  25. Well, it only took me another day to stumble across spam. People who do spam advertising must get paid. Anyone know what the pay structure is for that? This site gets a lot less spam than the last fitness site I was on, probably due to all the things you have to do to sign up (type in the number you see), provide email address, click on link, etc. Just curious about how they get paid to do that.
