  1. Haha made me laugh â˜ºï¸ I read a fair bit about eggs and I'd agree they are awesome and not harmful to eat many a day. Look at http://authoritynutrition.com/how-many-eggs-should-you-eat for more info - basically 70% of people see no rise on cholesterol, while most who do see a slight rise only but in the rise is in 'good' cholesterol: Bottom Line: Eggs consistently raise HDL (the “goodâ€) cholesterol. For 70% of people, there is no increase in Total or LDL cholesterol. There may be a mild increase in a benign subtype of LDL in some people.
  2. A lot of food for thought thanks (sorry, couldn't resist!). I'm going to have to think on it. I want to push on and do it fast, even tho it may not be the best way. But there is something to be said for trying it and then seeing for myself. I weighed myself today. I have put on 2.2kg over 4 days, since starting to add lots of milk on top of my standard intake. What I am going to do is keep as I am for 4 weeks. If it works and I don't find the downsides too bad, great. It will definitely help my motivation seeing the weight pile on. If I feel bad or whatever I can do it the go sane way lol. I might be saying "you told me so", but feel I have to try to be sure.
  3. BaconHunter, I expect you are right with not needing to start with weights so quickly. Guess I am just an eager beaver haha. Being able to do 30 push-ups, do you mean in a single set? Cos the BBWW is 10 x 3 for 30 total. I think it is going to take a long time to get to 30 all in one go. The 10 x 3 full tho I think I will crack within a few weeks, as I got 10, 8, 4 last time. Tonight is a workout night so hoping for at least that again ðŸ˜
  4. This is what I am typically eating: Breakfast - big bowl of porridge, litre of milk Lunch - big portion spinach, 2 eggs, tin of mackerels in sauce, banana Dinner - beef steak or fish, large portion of broccoli, white potatoes, 50g cheese, creamy sauce or gravy, litre of milk Snacks - 50g nuts, piece of fruit like papaya or pineapple, cottage cheese Shakes - 1 scoop whey with 300ml milk, 30g peanut butter (+70g dextrose and drunk while working out on alternate days) This comes to nearly 4k cals, so after normal daily cardio (read walking to work etc) I am managing caloric surplus of 1750 cals. What do you think? I feel I should be eating more veg, but they fill me and are not cal dense. I am actually thinking of fasting for 24 hours Sat night thru Sunday. This would still give me a caloric surplus around 1200 cal daily. That's a kg+ gain a week with the added benefit of burning some of the fat I am storing for 'free' 😀
  5. Thanks for the advice and encouragement folks. I found that article about UFC interesting. Very sneaky about dropping so much weight then bam back on in 24 hours! What is even more amazing is that the effects do not seem to be too detrimental, though I guess they have the best helping them. Will definitely read the post you linked to EmbracingChaos, but too late now tho. Yesterday I did my second BBWW. Managed 3 full sets apart from 10 or so push-ups were using knees. First one I did Friday I only got 2 sets before feeling like I would die, so was surprised I will soon be using the DBs for a 'proper' workout routine. I seem to be able to put away close to 4k cals a day max. That includes ~2.5 litres of milk. It really does help me take in more cals, but the bloating is not pretty :s I just tell myself it's a means to an end! I'm thinking about the class I want to be. It has to be Warrior or Ranger...probably the latter. Also thinking about setting my first 6 week challenge. How did you all do on your first challenges (assuming you have done one yet)?
  6. Hi BaconHunter, Thanks for the advice. I agree focussing too much on numbers is not really necessary. But it helps to have a rough idea, even if real world variables throw it off some way. I actually like milk a lot. Consuming 4 litres was a bit much but due to the volume not taste. 2 litres (good or bad as may be) is not a problem on top of normal eating. At least I am finding it so today. Having the firm goals is important I agree, and about how persistence can be hard if you expect too much. I feel sure I will be noticeably putting on weight doing the half GOMAD so hopefully that will help me see it through. I can see myself in my minds eye at 85kg and I know I will get there milk or no milk haha😛
  7. Thanks Zorch. Lots of advice there! I know my BMR to be ~2k cal/day. Before deciding to Go Mad, I had been eating 2.5k net cals a day, expecting as you said to gain 1 lb/week. I do appreciate the advice, and like Disil said, maybe half GOMAD is better than full. I think it can't hurt to try that for a month and then take stock. If I don't like the way I feel/look I can always go back to the slow and steady route. After the GOMAD, my plan would be to start IF (intermittent fasting) which I would find no trouble doing as I did it for 15 years without realising. The problem was the caloric deficit and that is why I am very skinny of course. Using IF, I believe any 'damage' could be undone and I'd burn all the extra fat from GOMAD off while maintaining my new weight. such is the plan anyway 😉 To lay it out then Goal weight 85kg - starting weight 60kg = 25kg gain desired Caloric surplus = 2500(normal balanced diet) + 1250 (half GOMAD) - 2000 (BMR) = 1750 Giving expected gains of ~ 3.5lbs/week or ~1.6kg So 3.5 months to desired weight At this point I expect to have around 8% body fat(current)+6%(based on reading about BF% gains during GOMAD) = 14% I find that an acceptable short term % to top out at. My aim would then be to get it back to around 8%. How long do you think it would take to do that eating say 2500 cals daily under IF? Once again, advice so far and future much appreciated 😄
  8. Hey thanks disil. So working out consecutive days is out! Today IS a workout day and I am looking forward to it as I so wanted to yesterday lol. I managed to do 2 sets of 10 full push-ups on my first try of the beginner bw workout. Really surprised but I had been doing some dumbbell work for a few weeks off an on before I found NF. That is the hardest exercise in the workout for me, and I am doing 9kg bench rows. So I think I will manage a complete 3 sets within 2 weeks. Also getting a pull up bar (freestanding unfortunately) for by b'day in few weeks. I'll be starting more dumbbell with bench exercises once I can do the 3 full sets. This GOMAD is going to be hard but the results after 2 months of it will hopefully get me up 25kg to my target weight and then I will all set as long as I stick at the weights and keep increasing the load. I will definitely check out the site thanks.
  9. Yesterday I decided to give the GOMAD "diet" a go. That's drink a gallon of milk a day! I didn't quite manage 4 litres, drank 3.2. Might be a bit too much to handle day in day out, but I guess I will see before too long. I am underweight, an ectomorph. 6ft 2in and not quite scraping 60kg. My goal weight is 85kg. I find that quite daunting, and I know I will put on fat. Haven't quite worked out yet if I will manage to burn it off enough to avoid becoming skinny fat (temporarily of course). I plan to use the Beginner Bodyweight Circuit training, until I can do 3 sets. After that restart with dumbbells. I don't plan on much cardio as I want to put on the weight. Should I REALLY be strength training every other day even as a beginner? I'd like to do it say 5 days out of 7 but pretty sure that is not good even as a beginner, right? Any advice HUGELY appreciated. Especially tips on diet to go with my 2500 milk calories. I am aiming for 5k cals a day but since GOMAD is giving me 130g fat/protein and 200g carbs, not too sure what macronutrients ratio I need on top. Any first hand experiences with GOMAD and going from underweight to awesome I would love to hear too. In fact ANY advice will help as I have read so much the past month that is contradictory about diet/strength training I am just not sure what is best to help me get my ideal lean mass

  11. Hi Darkwoman, Hope the nutrition rework does help your symptoms. Do you take medication for them? I had a bad bout of depression a year ago. Doctor prescribed various pills that basically were worse than actually dealing with the depression itself. I quit taking them and it forced me to deal with things and thankfully came out the other side. I realise bipolar and BPD are not the same kettle of fish as simple depression tho, so best of luck with keeping an even keel. I love horror stuff to. Lovecraft and films like The Thing are more my style. And zombies, but everyone likes zombies lol! Can't say I enjoy all these torture porn ones like Saw and Hostel 😬 Best of luck with the fitness goals!
  12. Hi Luciana, I like the name btw. Sounds kickass lol. Those games sound interesting. Did you mange to finish your challenge post? I need to do mine too having just joined.
  13. Hi ser_pez, Like the others commenting on the weight training, you could tell you loved it in your post. I looked into the Stronglifts programme, but at my present level of strength and due to needing a gym to do it I decided to go the dumbbell and bench/bodyweight route for now. Got to say it sounded good. It promises fast progression especially at first. Hope the fitness journey is fun however you carry on with it 😀
  14. Haha underpants gnome. First time I heard that one! Seems you are making a lot of changes. Well done on shedding the 35 pounds. I too am a lone wolf. I have very few friends, none of them close. Kind of just meet up every few weeks. It doesn't really bother me tho being an introvert. What I do get bothered about, not so much now mind, was social awkwardness or SA. I found something called inside out thinking. I think a lot of introverts do also have some level of SA. If that is something affecting you I highly recommend looking into inside out thinking. Best of luck on the quest and the hockey of course!
  15. Hi Exodeus, I'm new here so just introducing myself as much as my post limit allows. Wow there seems to be a lot of interest in parkour these days. Got to agree with Grifball, some of the stuff you see people do is amazing. I love RPGs. Never did a lot of p'n'p games, but plenty of computer games. A bit addicted to Morrowwind right now. That's what I liked about NF - it seems everyone here likes to have a bit of fun while getting fit and every post I have read is positive! Good luck on your quest fellow adventurer 😃
