  1. I was thinking about this again, and I remember there's an old Chinese proverb: “The best time to plant a tree is twenty years ago. The second best time is now.” I once saw an adjustment to this: "If you started training 20 years ago, you could be Batman. If you start training now, you could be Batman in 20 years" or something to that effect. It inspires me.
  2. When I got out of bed in the morning, I decided to do as many pushups as I could. Then I went straight into planks and failed to even do 45s, because my arms were too tired. But in the afternoon I watched TV and planked (I do floor exercises to justify my TV watching at times) and got them up to 50s. It's all doable, as long as one's willing to put in the effort, right?
  3. I've always loved the power and control of men's gymnastics. That's why I'm training towards Assassin. Very inspiring to me. I know this is a yoga video but it's got the power and control I aspire to: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2xPFHddhw1E
  4. I wish I had seen this challenge weeks ago. I'll be playing along now at home. You should put on a 'gun show' when you're done.
  5. A calf exercise for when I'm bored, as it takes a while for me to feel the burn) is calf raises and dips. Toes on a stair or ledge, then rising up and lowering down. Gets full range of motion for the lower leg muscles.
  6. I'm game to improve my planks! Was working on them last night. Only 45 s so going for 1m on front and sides
  7. Life is only what you wonder. Day is light as your brightest dream. -The Kinks "I would rather be ashes than dust; I would rather that my spark should burn out in a brilliant blaze than it should be stifled by dry-rot; I would rather be in a superb meteor, every atom of me in a magnificent glow than in a sleepy and permanent planet; the proper function of man is to live, not to exist; I should not waste my days in trying to prolong them; I shall USE my time." ~Jack London "Never forget what you are, for surely the world will not. Make it your strength. Then it can never be your weakness. Armor yourself in it, and it will never be used to hurt you." Tyrion Lannister in A Song of Ice & Fire by G. R. R. Martin
  8. I forgot all about parsnips. Love them so much! My family's new favorite dish is when I roast parsnip, turnip, garlic, sweet potato, carrots, celery root, and homegrown tiny purple potatoes (don't judge! been growing them for a decade, not stopping now) tossed in sea salt, pepper, and olive oil during the root vegetable season (I tend to eat locally when possible). So much yum, although it's really just Thanksgiving and Christmas. Beats the old mashed potatoes and gravy, or stuffing, in the TEETH.
  9. Found this celebrating her, auto tune has a justification now... And it is good to cook fresh, and enjoy cooking and eating. Bon Appetit!
  10. http://www.marksdailyapple.com/corn-is-not-a-vegetable/ Corn... It's the one "veggie" I don't eat ever. I'm a big fan of green beans, asparagus, shaved brussel sprouts ... zuccini? Just trying to get some ideas out there. Peppers, squash (speggheti squash is pretty yummy with garlic or pasta sauce). My local grocery store has prewashed veggies. Just steam and eat!
  11. I was on the same page yesterday.. I took out all my clothes from the dressers and from the floor of my closet, refolded and donating the things that don't fit or I don't wear. I also have random balls of yarn (I crochet) which I organized by type and color. Much easier to deal with my room. Next day off (wednesday) I tackle the desk and school books from last semester piled up on top of the dressers.
  12. Diet: Paleo 6/7 days a week, day 7 being optional cheat day (except breakfast, that shall remain sacred) (CHA+1/CON+1) GRADE: B – Kept it up most of the time, but the last week and a half, it’s been touch and go. I don’t know if it’s hormones or stress, but while I did turn it around these last few days, it’s been rough going. Which is weird; midway through the challenge I also gave up dairy, and added green drinks and my eczema was disappearing. Somehow I could never get enough sleep in (very long work hours with a lot of mandated overtime to stay and work 16h, and then it just repeating) and was not making diet and prepping enough of a priority. Given the return of the dry skin, I have to reevaluate and try this one again, get an A next time. Cha +0.75/Con +0.75 Exercise: Daily dynamic workout x6/week (DEX+1) GRADE:A – Whatever was going on, I did this all but two days this month (knee injury). Dex +1 My basic circuit (goblet squats, DB rows, lunges, pushups, jumping jacks, planks (front and each side). (starting DB: 30#, planks 30s; hope to see improvements) x3/week (STR+1/STA+1) GRADE: B Did it most of the time, minus when I was very sick and when I hurt my knee. Slacking this week, only doing the pushups, planks, and jumping jacks (knee again… bruises still not healed yet) Increased the plank time to 45s Str +0.75 Sta +0.75 kettlebell swings, kettlebell DL x3/week (starting at 25#) (STR+1) GRADE: B – Much like the other exercises, good most of the challenge except recently. Str +0.75 learn/perform TGU on kettlebell day (STR+1,DEX+1,STA+1,CHA+1) GRADE: B – As above. But didn’t use a kettle bell, made a sandbag. I didn’t want to purchase a tiny kettle bell and I wasn’t going to start off at 25#. Str +.075 Dex +0.75 Sta +0.75 Cha +0.75 Life: Quit Smoking (WIS+3/CHA+2) Grade: F – Didn’t Quit. Starting Numbers: 45.1% BF Current: 41.6% LBM: 120# Current: 122# Points earned: 10.25 Current stats (including challenges): STR 5.25 | DEX 3.75 | CON 5.75 | END 3.5 | WIS 5 | CHA 5.5
  13. When I'm doing the BBW workout, I almost always want to stop somewhere (generally on lunges or planks), or don't want to finish the last circuit. I tell myself it's just a moment in time, sometimes I try to be Spartacus, saying that this if I give up now it will take longer to reach my goals, etc. Don't know if it helps, but I was doing your workout at around the same weight ~8 months ago, and now have dropped a bunch and do 3 circuits and side planks, etc. And I feel much better. Any detour is survivable so long as you get back on the road.
  14. Thanks; usually I over-reach and set too many goals. Trying to keep it simple this time.
