Sweet Potato Mess 3 Good sized sweet potatoes 1 rotisserie chicken or 3 cooked chicken breasts (hehehe I said breast) 1 can black beans 1 can kidney beans 1 can corn 1-1 1/2 cups steamed broccoli salt, pepper, garlic, chili powder/flakes to taste Heat oven to 350 microwave sweet potatoes until tender, but do not overcook once done. cut in half and spoon sweet potato into a large bowl, save shells shred chicken (this is why I love my Ninja blender/food processor) Mix potato, chicken, beans, corn, broccoli and spices together spoon back into sweet potato shells top with Colby Jack cheese (optional) put into oven for 10-15 minutes or until cheese is golden brown Whatever is left of the mixture is great by itself or as a side. Protein, carbs, veggies all in one. Will last for about a week. I think. It's never been around longer than 2 days at my house. Enjoy
  2. If you can't afford weights, PVC pipe and sand will give you the weight you need. There are millions of videos online to help you get started. Good luck.
  3. Toggleboggle, Kaylya is right. It is a specialized piece of plyometric equipment that I'm sure nobody uses. The only people I could see using this are people training for American Ninja Warrior. The guys quizzing you are being D-Bags. Tell them you lift weights, CrossFit, whatever and to quit wasting your time about non functional pieces of equipment that are so specialized 99.99% of people lifting would not use them. Then when you get there, outlift them and shut them up.
  4. Watch what you take. See how much Beta-Alanine and Niacin it has in it. Is it all a "Proprietary Blend?" Does it offer any BCAA's? How many? etc. I have been using Pre's off and on for about a year and a half. C4 will vibrate you into next week. Plus it has a lot of sugar. Fit X Trainer is a good one, but tastes like crap. Beta-Crete was OK, but very short lived. Top Secret Cardio Activator and Pump Activator are good without making you feel shaky or hot. The one I am on now is really good. No jitters, no crash, just uber focused with lots of endurance and tastes amazing. It is the HIT Peak Performance. Tastes like mango/pineapple/orange. I also am very fond of JYM Pre Jym. Very tasty and my focus is intense when I use this. Whatever you try, start with one dose for a while and then build up and drink a butt load of water. This will help you in the long run.   5. I agree with TMedina about getting your blood work done. But as far as getting advice, go see a nutritionist. This is what they go to school for. Believe it or not, MD's don't get much training on nutrition and how it affects the body. They barely scratch the surface of it. The nutritionist is trained and has to do a lot of follow ups and re-certs to stay current. That might help get you where you want to go.
  6. Nobody can really "sell you" on CrossFit. You will either love it or hate it. Check with the local CrossFit boxes. Some will have beginner/on ramp classes for free or for a minimum fee. Talk to their coaches. Like anything else there are bad, good, and great coaches. What are the people like? are they willing to talk to you or are they D-Bags? What level are the coaches and do they have other certifications as well i.e. Olympic Lifting, Strongman, Gymnastics? When I started CrossFit I was 245 lbs with a 40" waist. I am also in Federal Law enforcement. I was a slop of crap. Not the poster child for healthy living or a good example to my kids or the public. I am now 218 with a 34" waist. I am a CF Level 1, CF Level 2, CF Olympic Lifting coach, CF Strongman coach, CF Gymnastics coach, Kettlebell Concepts coach, and CF Kids coach. As you can tell I love it. Do I drink the Kool-Aid and eat paleo, preach Zone or look down on non-crossfitters?? HELLS NO! But I love the classes, WODS, Metcons etc. I love the aspect of working out with other people and competing against myself and how I can do better. I am stronger now at 44 than I was at 24. AS for a gym. NO, you don't REALLY need it. Work out outside, lift rocks, tires. Do body weight exercises. Who cares?!? So can I or anybody else sell you on it? No. Like anything that really matters in life, you have to try it for yourself and only YOU can tell YOU if it is for YOU. Whatever you decide, good luck and we all wish you the best.
  7. I am a shoe whore. I love shoes. Is it cool to say that?!? Naw, I'm good with my manliness. Anyway, the Nano 5's or whatever they are called are basically the same as 4's but with Kevlar (why? Are my feet gonna get shot at while I WOD?). I can't justify spending close to $200 for that. I custom ordered some Nano 4.0's in black, grey, blue and yellow (see a theme?) Then I had BATMAN embroidered on the back. And for that I paid close to $150. Love them and they are one of a kind. I have to honestly say I think I like my Nano 3's better. And if I could find the Inov-8 shoes that I started CrossFit in I would buy those in a heartbeat. However, I am hoping the Fiance gets me some Metcons for Father's day.
  8. While Rogue does have good stuff, you are paying extra for the name. The Texas Bar had good reviews. I would suggest more research. How is it being used? Strict lifts, or are you dumping the bar and weight from overhead? Rogue makes a "beater bar" that is moderately priced and can take a lot of abuse. York bars not so much. Again, keep looking and formulate your own opinion. Everybody will have a different idea about what makes their favorite bar the best. And sometimes if you go to your local gym, they will sell you the ones that they are going to replace. Many gyms will just get rid of their stuff due to it not being shiny anymore.
  9. I use the Rehband 7751. Have had them for almost a year with no issues. I use LG for my WOD's and MD for my heavy lifts and 1 RD Max on squats, deadlifts, Clean and Jerks etc. Some people that I coach have the Roktape sleeves and hate them. I have heard good things about the Workt knee sleeves as well.
  10. Halfway through and I am holding steady. Down 6-7 lbs depending on the time of day. Still not using the Copenhagen or any other tobacco products. Diet is doing better than I thought and my knee is getting stronger since my surgery in November. Did a front squat with 275 the other day. So getting back to where I belong. Hope everybody else is doing well. Question...Has anybody tried the Nike Metcon 1 CF shoes? I just custom made some Nano 4.0 (Batman colors and Batman embroidered on the back. What? It is nerd fitness.) I am a shoe whore and want to try the Metcons out.
  11. Yesterday was one I came up with and my class thought about chasing me with pitchforks and torches (but they couldn't...none of them could move afterwards BWAAAHAAAAHAAAAA!!!) SLO-MO 5 Rds 5 Psycho 5's (5 sec count down, 5 sec count hold w/out touching floor, 5 sec count up) 5 MB Thrusters (5 sec down, 5 sec hold at 90 degrees, 5 sec up, then arms 5 sec up 5 sec squeeze 5 sec down) 5 Ab Mat sit ups or 10 second Hollow Holds (sit ups again 5 sec up/5 sec down) It should take about 23:00 if you stay with the count. Most people (including me) count it slow. I ended up doing it in 33:26 Try it, you'll like it
  12. Ugh burpees. Just did a prison workout not too long ago. Nothing but burpees and sit up. 350 burpees and 250 sit ups to be exact. But what the hell. Let's do it. It only hurts til the pain goes away. I'm in.
  13. I used 2 inch PVC pipe. It took me about 1 hour to make 2 of them. Super easy. I found the plans on the crossfit site for free. I'm going to make some farmer carry handles out of tie downs and garden hose this weekend

  15. I haven't used one, but I have seen them demonstrated on youtube. Not only that, they show how to make one for about $10 compared to the high prices listed on the better known sites around the internet. It does look like a smoking workout. I plan on making one in the next week or two.

  17. At home depot the have those hard plastic boxes that go over the water mains. I use these for my wife and sister to jump on. They are very sturdy and cost about $30. I also sprayed black rubber coating on them to help with the grip.
  18. two layers of contractor bags, then a butt load of duct tape, then pillowcase, then a butt load of duct tape, then into an old military duffle bag, then more duct tape at the opening.
  19. So this weekend I made some parallets for handstand pushups, l-sits and dips. This weekend is sandbags using some Army surplus bags, contractor bags, duct tape and sand. Also, working on some farmer carry handles using tow straps. $10 for those compared to $135 for stuff that is offered on the internet. Should be interesting.
  20. New guy checking in. 44 year old BP Agent in AZ. CF LV 1 and LV 2 instructor, Certified in CF Strong man, CF Olympic Lifting, CF Gymnastics, CF Kids, and Kettlebell Concepts certified instructor. I teach up to 15 times a week and work out 6 days a week. I lift weights, and for cardio, I lift weights faster (jk) I started my challenge last week and have been doing fairly well. I stopped dipping Copenhagen, cut out grains (that sucks) cut out sugar except organic, local honey in my coffee, and met with a sport's nutritionist. Goal is to lose 10 lbs, cut up, and finally break the 400lb mark on my deadlift. I am a huge Batman fan. I know pro wrestling is fake, but still watch. I don't consider rap music, music at all. And I think Justin Beiber needs to go away permanently. I think today's models are too skinny and that outside of Blacklist, Game of Thrones, and Cougar Town, TV in general sucks. I have my own fully functional CF Gym in my garage and I refuse to pay for anything that I can make by hand in my garage. I hope to hear from anybody about their goals and shoot the bull (I am a gov't employee) and get to know people. Thanks for letting me ramble.
  21. Prison workout with a twist. 25 Burpees- 10 sit ups jog 25 yards 24 burpees- 10 sit ups jog 25 yards so on and so forth down to 1 burpee- 10 sit ups 350 Burpees, 250 Sit ups Time for me was 40:42 OUCH!!!

    OUCH, that hurt

    I am a newbie, wannabe Ranger. But have been doing a lot. I work in Federal Law enforcement running around in the desert and mountains. I also am a CrossFit LV1 and LV 2 coach with 5 other certs. Why do I hurt? Well...last night I did the "Prison Workout" with a twist. You do 25 burpees, jog 25 yards then do 24 burpees and so on down to 1. The twist is that I added 10 sit ups per round. It comes out to 350 burpees and 250 sit-ups in just under 40 minutes (for me anyway) I had some athletes beat me by a few minutes and a few athletes take up to 55 minutes. Either way, it hurt. During the challenge I have a few goals. Modify my diet to cut out most "bad" carbs and sugar Up my cardio and get leaner. I lift weights, but for cardio, I lift weights faster. Stay off of the Copenhagen snuff. It's been 5 weeks since I had one, but the temptation is still there. So in general, I want to be a bad ass Ranger and keep up with the youngsters (I'm 44) Look forward to hearing from you all.

  24. Thank you all for the encouragement. I'm meeting with a sports nutritionist next Friday. So hooefully the "eating well" will be explained to me. I'm looking to cut sugar for sure and some grains. Not sure I have the "testicular fortitude"to go strict paleo, but stranger things have happened. Check back for updates.
