  1. hey guys. Things are still on track. a bit slow with the weight loss lately, i think that is because a bit of extra carbs have crept in due to others cooking etc. Normally i make all the meals so i can control it, but others have done some cooking lately, and i am not religiously adherant to a paleo lifestyle to the point i wouldn't eat something someone has prepared for me. weight is closing in on 200 pounds, i think it will be quite an achievment to get under that mark. I am also tracking measurements, and being able to put on things that hadn't fit in ages and were in the 'donate' pile is pretty good. now i am pulling out the things that were too small and puting in the things that are now too big which is good. anyway, i am keen to lose about 25 pounds in the next 16 weeks to reach my goal. fingers crossed.
  2. been AFK for a few weeks, crazy busy. to give a brief update, i am still on track. saw my first 93kg weigh in since about 2009 i think, so stoked about that. goal is still under 80kg so a long way to go, but good to see constant progress of a pound or two per week. considering fitness options now, thinking about doing C25K and the wife is interested also, so might be someting we can do together. also looked into the local gym (only one within about 100kms so not much choice!) its small, but they have recently upgraded all their gear, and have a decent free weights section. It's about $500 for the year, so i am hesitant to join without being fully committed to weights training. Looking at the 5x5 thing i have seen on here....will go and chat with the staff again i think before making a decision. It's near the school i work at, so can do it before school if i can convince the missus to let me out the house early, that means she has to handle getting herself and the kids ready where normally i take care of the kids.... anyway, on track, looking at stepping up a bit further with some fitness options.
  3. we had fish and chips last night. i felt immediately sick after wards. 3 months ago i would have gone for a second serve, last night i felt like going to throw it up. It was all home made so reasonably healthy compared to shop stuff, but still fried and battered fish and chips, so not on my 'plan' at all. that said, i still kept to my calorie budget for the day, but my carbs tipped over the top a little bit as best i can tell. always a bit hard with home made things isn't it. it will be interesting to see how this impacts my weight/mood/attitude today.
  4. looking like you are smashing it at the moment Emerald, well done! what age group do you teach? i am with 10 year olds, so alegbra is just getting introduced to them at present, we did some today with angles and triangles which was a big stretch on their 2nd day back from school holidays. most left their brains at home it seemed. anyway, good luck with your workouts, they seem intense! i bet you are getting great improvement in a heap of different muscles from the routine you are doing with your hubby, keep it up!
  5. interesting isn't it when you start tracking these things and seeing relationships between certain foods and the way they affect your body. i have found the hardest part of the low carb thing to be with snacks. i love chips/crisps and that sort of thing, total no go zone at the moment. i need to make my own sweet potato chips or something to munch on. i have been having almonds but they are pretty high calories for their size so not ideal. i am averaging about 1/2 a pound of weight per day with my roughly 1500 calories a day diet, which is a deficit of about 750-1000 calories per day. it's exciting to see the drop. it translates to around 4-5kg (10 pounds) per month. i have another 15kg or so to go, so with any luck 3 months and i should be about where i want to be if i can stay on the wagon. i am not finding the low calorie thing a struggle at all which surprised me. the arrival of Coke Life, and my delight at actually enjoying it and not hating it like i do diet coke i think helped heaps, as Coke is my main weakness, so being able to still have a glass or two, with 35% fewer calories is a big deal in helping me stay the course. replacing bread with lettuce for sandwiches and wraps etc. has been interesting and resulted in many soiled shirts as the lettuce has split and dumped the contents over my front, but i dont mind it, the trick i think is finding a lettuce flexible enough to be wrapped around the filling, but strong enough not to split. anyway, thanks for dropping in ED much appreciated and good luck with your progress.
  6. hey all, It was suggested in the 'recruit' board i head in here and introduce myself. My name is Rooie, I am a 34 year old teacher from rural Western Australia. Father of 2 girls, husband & coca cola addict. I was 105kg(231 pounds) in January this year on my birthday, which really shocked me, so i have been endeavouring as part of a whole life upgrade get my weight down into the 'normal' range for my height (79kg or about 175 pounds). The whole life upgrade is due to trying to be a better role model to my own kids as well as the 10 year old kids i teach. I am attempting to dress better, have better hygeine, better manners, be more social, be a more attentive father, more helpful husband....pretty much gain a few % in every area of my life. anyway, i am 1 week into this 6 week challenge and still on track with all my quests. Weight loss isn't a quest in this challenge, however i have dropped about 4 pounds in the past week too, which is a big bonus and about twice my normal rate of weight loss. well, thats me for now, i look forward to sharing the journey with you all, and best of luck with your own goals.
  7. So to update i am on track after 1 week. All my quests are still intact. I had a bit of carbs last week on my wifes birthday due to the cake, and that seemed to impact the weight loss for a few days interestingly, so i think water retention and carbs seem to go hand in hand. anyway... still on track. I have dropped about 4 pounds this week, which after my initial 16 odd pounds over the previous month or so is a good effort. so my weight goal has progressed nicely to now over 1/3 of the way there, and given i have allowed myself until the end of september, fingers crossed i can continue this tragectory and not only hit my goal weight well in advance, but be able to work on my fitness and muscle mass well in advance of when i thought i would. good luck all!
  8. well still on track, missed a few days of reporting, but all is still well. Weight is dropping again, must of just retained a bit of water the other day due to birthday cake.... oops. all quests still on track though, so thats 1 week of 6 down without any issues, yippee.
  9. day 5 weight has actually gone up slightly today, not sure if that is due to extra carbs yesterday or what, interesting to track these things to gain better insight. quest 1 - 1331c quest 2 - 1L quest 3 - 153g carbs. a few minor changes to make this weekend to stay the course.
  10. day 4. bit harder today. Wife's birthday so i baked a cake and took her out to dinner. After just a week or so with virtually no bread/flour style carbs in my system, i felt aweful after a having some, interesting. I also think i have retained way more fluid than other days where i have been on just veggies and meat. So i am noticing a few things this week which i would never noticed if i stayed on a 'normal' diet. quest 1-1699 calories, but honestly it felt like more so i am unsure about my calculations quest 2-500ml coke, and a couple of ciders. quest 3-not 100% sure on carbs, but i think i blew this one out. my calculator says 118, but i think that is wrong. so in theory still on track, but i am not convinced. i was 100% right today. Still i didn't throw it all away in a day because i had one piece of cake, i tried to stay the course regardless. make up for it today, just got a new delivery of fruit and veg so keeping the good stuff well stocked.
  11. day 3 - Quest 1-1011 calories Quest 2- 750ml of Coke Life Quest 3- 146g of Carbs. still on track. Weight is dropping a few hundred grams a day too which is awesome.
  12. day 2; quest 1 -1197 calories. bit low, might have a fruit salad or something before bed. quest 2 - 1L of coke life. halving my intake is a win, but i keep going right to my limit. quest 3 - 94g of carbs - winning! weight is continuing to head down by a few hundred grams a day, if i can stay on top of this i should make some good progress this week. must say i am craving some salty snacks, need to find some healthy alternatives.
  13. Well, joining NF for the first time and getting into this 6 week challenge. My goal is to get from 105kg(231 pounds) to 75-80kg(165-175 pounds) by my wedding anniversary in late september. So far, i have dropped to 96.8(213 pounds) as of this morning by making a few diet changes, but haven't yet added exercise to the effort. I like the idea of heavy lifting as i run a farm as well as being a teacher, and am always having trouble due to a bulging discs in my lower back, so when i add exercise i want to focus on strengthening my lower back and building my ability to cart around 40kg(88 pound) bags of feed without grunt and groaning so much. So to recap my quests - 1 - under 1750 calories per day. 2 - switch to Coke Life, keep intake under 1L (34oz) 3 - reduce carbs to 150g per day. Todays results from MFP; 1 - 1570 calories 2 - Coke Life - 1L exactly (close call) 3 - carbs 145g (another close call!) most of the carbs are sweet potato and the sugar in the coke. i can probably get a bit better control of the carbs by more closely looking at the veggies, though i think of all the carby veggies, sweet potato is probably the best choice from what i understand. check in with y'all tomorrow.
  14. thanks for the comment ED, glad to hear getting rid of carbs is working for you, hopefully i can get the same success!
  15. i *may* have put it on a bit thicker than usual. but my mates do call me Roo, and i am a farmer. if the current government keeps bowing down to copyright holders and changing our laws i may also soon be a convict....and yes i do have to kill deadly snakes and spiders regularly, but i have not wrestled a croc or shark. maybe that can be a mini quest? thanks for your post though and good luck with your goals!
