  2. MIght have been too ambitious...But I have done it before, so now that I'm home, it theoretically should be easier...I'll keep trying Thanks! Glad it wasn't just me! It's still painful, but I'm having fun with the progress.
  3. I gotta stop doing the once per week posts! So here's a quick rundown of my final week: Week 5 day 1: Exhausted from the giant Sunday session so took a rest day Week 5 Day 2: Did S&S with 80 heavy swings and 80 heavy TGUs, followed by hip extension and pike! Long session but it felt good! Week 5 Day 3: Rest day Week 5 Day 4: Light S&S with shoulder/upper back and pike. Another long session, but made it through and on track for my pike goal. I decided to try out a bridge again and it felt good! I took a picture and you couldn't really see any change, but i felt much more confident in getting into it, and I think I had less weight in my head, so I'm calling it progress. Week 5 Day 5: Rest day because ended up virtually hanging out with friends Week 5 Day 6: They reopened the parks in New Jersey, so took the opportunity to go on a long hike in the morning. Afternoon was shoulders/back and straddle. Week 5 Day 7: I had full intention of doing my remaining 3 modules for the week, but felt so exhausted physically. Took a medium walk, and it zapped all my energy. It was weariness that settled in my joints somehow, so I took the hint and took a rest day instead. (But did pick up some flowers for my garden from our local farm!) This was the first weekend that actually felt like a weekend in a while, so I'm feeling pretty good going into the next week. So overall this was not my most successful challenge, but I'm still pretty pleased with how I did overall in this chaotic time. I'm going to try to keep up similar goals next challenge, but post more here!
  4. Finsihing out week ??? 4? oops I was indeed gone a while! Week 4 Day 4 Did another round of heavy S&S and felt really good about it! Week 4 Day 5: Ended up taking it as a rest day with some good video hanging out with friends. Felt like a good week work-wise in that I'm finally getting a handle on what my role is and what my priorities should be. Week 4 Day 6: Another accidental rest day, went on some walks, but took it as a break and got some extra work done that I didnt' do during the week. Week 4 Day 7: Had to catch up for the week to get my goals accomplished, and didn't have much else to do for the day (I almost considered doing work just out of boredom!) so it was workout day! Started it off with a warm-up walk and then did my 3 leg/hip modules. Then took a break and then did a light S&S and then the back/arm module. At the end, my whole body felt wrung out and tired, but super good! I'm feeling much more comfortable than I was in the upper back module; the first time I did it I freaked out my nervous system and got super dizzy during the floor taps. So I'm taking it slower and being sure to breath, and I'm feeling much more confident when "upside down". For week 5 I think I'm going to keep the same goals of kettlebells 3 times and doing each module twice (though it would be great if I could do pike 3 times). Also would love if I could try to do kettlebells in the morning, but we'll see about that.
  5. I might have just pulled another batch out of the oven, they are such a fun breakfast! glad to hear I'm not alone in disliking that one most, probably means it is good for me Oh cool! Not glad to hear you get it too, but nice to hear I'm not a super weirdo. It happens to me every few months, seemingly unrelated to what I do, though I find it happens semi-reguarily more when I either start doing or stop doing kettlebells, but that's probably just tied to hip strength. (I don't think that's what happened this time). It's so annoying how long it takes to resolve itself, because I'm a limping mess until it fixes itself. Surprisingly I think that may be my favorite module (not at all what I would have guessed). It might be because engaging my side butt when stretching is such a new concept that I'm enjoying the newbie gains so much that I'm ignoring the pain
  6. Sorry I disappeared! Starting my new job kinda got overwhelming for a bit, but I'm starting to adjust and have been able to mostly keep up with my goals in the meantime. I just couldn't find the mental space to post here as well. A quick summary of what I was up to in the 2 weeks I missed: Got my MyFlex program and started trying it out Had a thing that happens to me every few months where my hip tenses werdly, pinches a nerve and creates a feedback loop until I can get my hip to relax and pop back into place Did some kettlebells, not quite the 3/week I aim for, especilaly during my first MyFlex week Did a pretty good job of hydrating Made the famous Raptron walnut and feta scones - sooooo good Played some online Catan with friends Ordered pink hair dye and am anxiously awaiting it's arrival for my new stay-at-home hair Staying at home other than twice daily walks with my husband around our neighborhood My goals for the week (the one that started monday) is to do each Myflex module at least 2 times and do my kettlebells three times. I also wanted to organize my work emails and work computer desktop, but have already managed to achieve those! On Monday I did S&S, including 80 heavy swings and 8 heavy TGUs pretty easily, so taking a slight break did me some good! I also did the MyFlex hip extention and pike modules. Pike is definitely the most uncomfortable for me overall, but it fits with what I already knew about my flexibility. Tuesday I did the straddle module and made the tasty salmon sweet potato cakes courtesy of Raptron and Mad Hatter. I did mine with a taco flair, quite tasty! Wednesday (today) I did the shoulder/back module. This one definitely takes me the longest. I think it takes me about an hour, and the others are 20-30 minutes. So far I"m feeling pretty good on my goals. I think tomorrow will be a rest day from MyFlex. I may or may not do S&S. I think I want to start doing S&S in the mornings when I can, but that would require getting up slighlty earlier and finding motivation in the morning. But I may try that tomorrow, or next week. Now to catch up on everyone else's threads!
  7. I respect this! I say I'm from the cities out here in NJ, once I know people actually know the area, I switch to Maplewood. Like when people say they're from Chicago, I always ask if it's Chicago or "Chicago" Oh wow, Como Zoo! I went there all the time as a kid! We did Zoo Boo every Halloween and Sparky the Seal was my favorite thing ever! to save my life. Glad it's not just me, they still just don't feel right no matter what I do.
  8. Week 1 Day 5: I did much better on my hydration today and feeling pretty good because of it. I also had a very productive work day wrapping things up for my last day in the department. Not sure if it was hydration-related, but I like to think it was. I wasn't feeling at all in the mood for S&S, so I did a modification of this kettlebell ladder from my old trainer: https://www.instagram.com/p/B-UmCdTn7TU/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link I did a 10-6-2 ladder because I didn't have too much time before a netflix party watching the Matrix for a friends bday.
  9. Week 1 Day 3: Didn't do as well on the hydration yesterday, I need to keep an eye on that. I was sore/worn out from S&S so took it as a walk day. I also went to the grocery over lunch, which was enough of an adventure. Week 1 Day 4: Today involved 2 walks! But I don't think I"ll be able to get S&S in today, because going to do an after dinner virtual hangout with friends.

  12. Thanks! It was definitely one of those workouts where once I started climbing the stairs to bed I wondered if I'd make it to the top. Thank you! Ballet gave me something flexibility-wise at least! I'm super excited for the pain and progress Currently just anxiously checking my email multiple times a day waiting for my program.

  14. Yes WBL is a great town and was so much fun to wander after school, many hours have been spent at Cup and Cone. Maplewood is definitely nice, I hope Salamander dog loves it!
  15. Oh awesome! I'm from Maplewood, but went to school in White Bear Lake - Go Bears! (Idk why the internet does not have a better gif of the iconic WBL shoutout in Fargo) I do miss the snow, but wonder if I'd still miss it if I moved back to the midwest

  18. I am totally here for this! I totally feel this sentiment! I feel like I've been stuck at my current level of flexiness for so long that I doubt sometimes if I can improve, but we got this! I'm learning how to be active in more "passive" stretches. For me, stretches have always been something I fall into once I'm warmed up and exhausted, so this is new and exciting (and painful!) I also apparently have a ton of nerve tension I need to work on. I heard it before from my physio many years ago, and apparently it's still an issue, I've just been ignoring it.

Week 1 Day 2: I worked on my hydration by keeping my water bottle at my desk full and by thinking of my plants I have all my work plants at home right now, and so whenever i look at them and think about watering them, I used that as a reminder to water myself instead I also did S&S tonight. The first 20 swings felt so good, I decided to try doing 80 heavy swings and did it! I then figured I should try 8 heavy TGUs and also did it! (I figured I'd do 2 light, 6 heavy, and then 2 light if I was worn out). Whooo, leveling up! I'll probably go back to 60 and 6 for the rest of the week, but this was fun.
  20. It was thanks to the encouragement here that I did! Thanks! I'm excited that I have so much room to grow. I have a bunch of nerve tension, so I'm glad that I will soon have a way to work on that, and hopefully make productive progress.

  22. Mine hurt for a day after the assessment, I can't imagine but am also looking forward to the pain from the real program. That sounds tasty! can you (or Raptron) share?
  23. oh nice, I like this! Halos, that's another thing I like and totally forgot about! I've been so S&S focused I've forgotten so many of the fun things. Snatches are definitely fun,, though I agree, I was also afraid of them for a long time. I'm still probably a little too tentative going into them sometimes, which makes them hurt, but even then still fun! Also just caught up on your thread and saw you're in Minnesota! I'm from there originally and my mom and brother are still there. I'm from the Twin Cities area specifically. I miss the snow so much! We didn't have any stick around for more than a few hours in NJ
  24. Week 1 Day 1 continued: I am not going to get S&S in today, took this as a cozy evening instead, but I did realize I want to share a fun dance-y song for each week of my challenge, because another one struck me today.
  25. Thank you for the encouragement! It's funny, I've always thought of my left split as my better one because it is lower, but now I'm wondering if that is all due to sacrificing form on that side...camera never lies. At least now I feel pretty good about my right split, which is a new feeling and my middle split is honestly lower than I thought it would be. Thanks I'm just excited to have some new things to try as I feel like my flexibility has been stalled for so long, I might make short term progress, but it never seems to stick.
