  1. that makes me sad too though I didn't like avocados and feta when I was younger, now I love it. Tastes change over time.
  2. I have changed my goal for the week. I did the cardio and yesterday I was really sore and my knees hurt. I decided that trying to jump straight into the the other work out this week would be going overboard instead of small sustainable changes. I don't wanna hurt myself and set things back so this week its just 3 cardio workouts to win it. Either next week or after the 1st we will add the other back in. Any exercise is progress at this point. Other than that it was an AWESOME day. Ate at goal (woot) tried a new recipe for a healthier desert option for my girls (I did have a little) made pumpkin cheesecake pudding with real pumpkin and they LOVED it!! And they ate the girly salad of ultimate yum.. sorta... Ok so they picked around the avocado and when I put the left overs away there wasn't an olive left in sight, but still Today cardio with the girls, good eating choices, and lots of water!!
  3. I think its awesome that you LIKE going, just saying
  4. This is so awesome! I love the enthusiasm! a question: when you guys use your omron are you guys doing it at about the same time every day, and about 3 hrs after eating? Are you going to use a week average for the finale or is just one under 10 enough?
  5. Hi and welcome! Congrats on making your goal weight!! Just my 2 cents for what it is worth... I am doing the paleo/primal thing as well, though I just started. I am choosing to count calories because when I diet I tend to under-eat and then sabotage myself. 1200 is really really low, it is the ABSOLUTE minimum that you should ever eat. You shouldn't EVER eat less than your BMR (the amount of calories you body would need to live if you were in a coma and not moving at all) This Calculator is Great!! The top number is your BMR and then the bottom one gives you a general idea of how much you burn over your day depending on your activity levels. In order for me to get down to a BMR of 1200 (I'm 36 and 5'1") I would have to weigh 96 lbs. (My BMR at the moment is about 1800 and at my goal weight it will be right around 1400. At my goal weight, with an hour of moderate exercise a day and 8 hrs of sleep my average expenditure will be about 2200) am I helping or making things more confusing? As women we have been told for so long that the way to loose weight is to restrict restrict restrict and it works out much better with moderation. Though I am not an expert on muscle gain, it is my understanding that you cannot build muscle while eating at a deficit. You may wanna look into that. Also if you made your goal weight shouldn't you be transitioning to maintenance calories? And just another tidbit... as you put on muscle, even with your fat dropping, you will put on some pounds. I would suggest if you are going to start putting on muscle you look to other goal posts than weight for your feedback. Obviously, lifting more, getting to do that 'real' pushup or pull up (depending on your goals there) measurements of waist, hips, arms, neck, etc. Actual body fat. I am personally tracking ALL of these for the next year or so while I try to kick my BFs a$$ at % of body weight lost.
  6. This is a really good point!! With you guys have different goals it maybe a good idea to get your work outs done separately so you can make the most of your time in the gym. As to talking with your girl... have you taken the approach of something like this "I love you, but I'm not your mom, I'm not going to stand over you and nag you to do the things that are good for you. But I want you to know that I am here for support, want to help, and will do anything YOU need me to do to help, not because I want to change you, but simply because I want us to have a long life together." Give her credit for the changes she has already made and then tell her the truth, if she's not into working out thats fine, but she needs to understand that you are going to be taking care of yourself and spending the time needed to do it.
  7. It has this name because when I was married it was full of things the 'boys,' being my husband and his friends, wouldn't eat. And that was fine with me, cuz Hey! More for me! 1 Smallish container of Cherry or Grape Tomatoes 1 Can of Black Olives 1 Cucumber 1 or 2 avocados depending on price 15 ozs of Cooked Chicken 1/4 cup Feta Cheese (optional) 6tbs of Greek Vinaigrette Dressing Peal and cube cucumber. Dice avocados and chicken. Mix everything in a large bowl and toss with dressing. Can be eaten as is or on a bed of greens which is what I do. Super filling, super yum! For me this is about 5 servings and my CC site says about 300 calories (19 grams of fat, 15g of carbs, 23g protein)
  8. That is awesome! Thanks for sharing!!
  9. Wow! That is all awesome! I LOVE my ipod touch I hope you enjoy yours too. You are inspiring me to be more organized!
  10. There are lots of super awesome suggestions up there. A simple thank you to your wife would go a long way especially if you were specific about it. And maybe something nice to memorialize it? Something small but meaningful that will remind you both of the triumph. If she even likes jewelry.
  11. Sleep! Sleep! Sleep! Sleep is the most important thing you can do. For the other... is there a way that you can, at least temporarily, swap to something you can do in your room so you still get your work outs in? Body Weight exercises? Resistance Bands? things like that. That way you are still getting some exercise in.
  12. Its a new day! A new week! A new start!! Welcome back!!
  13. awww Life's little hiccups. They make life soo much fun. So I didn't get my measurements taken, but that is OK I will get it done this week. I did 38 min of cardio on Tuesday and both girls joined me. Mom even did the first 15 minutes with us sooo awesome!! today will be my first Rookie Level Workout. Monday was just to busy of a day for me to get it in and I had thought about swapping it to Tuesday Thurs Saturday but both girls want to do it with me and if I do that they will miss a work out a week while they are at their dad's. So first thing when they get home this afternoon we work out! Which will be interesting because my knees are stiff today from the dancing yesterday. I'm running about 200 cals short on my eating goal, not good. Today I kicked it up and added some sunflower seeds to my breakfast. That should make up the difference All in all I"m pleased with the first two days. *note to self, find a multivitamin.
  14. Hi Unicorn! welcome to NF! There is a lot of good advice up there. For me the making small changes is the bit that helps the most. I am working my way towards paleo eating, but I'm doing it one meal at a time. This week one meal, next week two, etc. By the time the first of the year rolls around I should be going full paleo. Another tip that works out really well for me is menu planning (I'm not that good at it yet, but I'm working on it) just knowing what I"m going to cook ahead of time really helps, and I know when I have to pull things out of the freezer.
  15. Welcome to another Midwesterner!! I hope you love it here!
  16. I hate the "It tastes weird" my youngest daughter is 11 and I hear that ALL the time. Part of it is that she has allergies and there are times where they really do make things taste weird. Personally I do what my mom did when we were young. I keep some things that I know she will eat around, that I don't have to do a lot of prep on. I insist that she TRYs it and then if she doesn't like it then she can have things from the list.
  17. Sounds like AWESOME goals! Lots of people use fitocracy. Its pretty awesome from what I can tell. You log your exercises and get points to level up and earn achievements for things you do. I just started on there, haven't even logged anything yet, but the NF seems to have a good presence over there too. If you PM me your email I will send you an invite

  19. Did you know they now have sweet potato fries? I totally admire your will power, me I compromise by skipping the bun and eating my fries Though I have no excuse for the gingerbread shake, except I wanted it And I lost the battle with the Xbox. Every time I think I am done Christmas Shopping I find one more thing... This time I'm REALLY done!!
  20. lets get it on!!!! I have an Omiron, I am planning on using it to help keep me motivated. I look forward to hearing what you guys have to say about yours.
  21. Grats Stevo on your success so far!! One of the things I have noticed on the board is that while they have a particularly pro-paleo/primal bent they don't force it down anyone's throat. Everyone seems to realize that there are different things that work for different people, one of the things I like so very much about these forums. Since your primary goal is weight loss at the moment, don't fix what isn't broken! If its working for you and you are getting enough protein and aren't doing anything to out there (Which it doesn't sound like you are) then by all means enjoy your success. Personally, I couldn't go veggie. I love my meat, but I admire anyone who has the gumption to stand for something.
  22. WOOHOO!! The munchkin and I had an awesome! day. The eldest went rock climbing so mom, Kiersten and I hung out. We went and saw Hugo (well worth watching) ate at Red Robin (Yum!) one of her favorite places, and then wandered around Sam's club for about an hour (her idea) we had just grabbed a few things and were going to leave but she wanted to keep looking at more things, and of course enjoying the samples. When we got home we chilled a bit and then played Just Dance 2 for about 20 minutes. Man that makes me feel OLD. We danced to both Walk Like an Egyptian and Jump. Jump was popular when I was in High School. Every time we do that song, in my opinion the hardest on the disk, I have to explain to her why the avatars have their clothes on backwards LOL. Bad news: Not enough water, to much pop. Oh well. I did pretty good overall this week on my goals. Got the extra time in at work, though now I'm having to fight the urge to take advantage of a great deal on a Xbox360. GRRRR. Responsible adulthood is over rated!! hmmmm... Time to start thinking about my goals for the new week.
  23. Oh wow!! Those look so good! sounds like a great night!
