  1. Welcome Gnarth. I'm in Irving glad you joined.
  2. In Dallas near medical district. Always happy to meet fellow nerds
  3. Okay so I kinda sucked my first week so I wanted to see if I could finsd any nerds in the Dallas area to help with some additional motivation. Even just a pep talk would be great at this point. I have a simple set of quests but little injuries are slowing me down. The good news is my diet has been great food intake has been pretty good compared to pre- challenge days, but still got a ways to go.
  4. Well first week was a bit of a train wreck. I had my family back in town suddenly so I was nowhere near prepared for my program. Week 2 however is a bit better. Dealing with chronic pain in knee and wrist so my workouts have been very low intensity. My diet has been great though low meat and high veggie intake with home cooked meals. I don't consider my progress that far to be good at all but I am moving forward a little.
  5. Thanks guys I think my problem is writing related but skipping pushups or pushup like movement will definitely stop me from working out. I'll check with a physician to see if it is treatable and maybe try pushup stands too. I have tried stretching it but may just need to heal. A new keyboard is also a great idea I am always having moments when I am ready to run from my desk because typing is so uncomfortable to my hands. Can anyone recommend a good keyboard for chronic writers, lol.
  6. So I am a professional nerd, which oftten means I spend a lot of time on a computer. Well over the last two months of grant writing ( and really horrid typing posture) I aggravated my wrist and now pushups are almost unbearable. Any tips for quicker recovery from this kind of soreness issue? For now I am simply modifying my pushups to avoid the pain, but that is a stop-gap measure that seems like it will not help me with my underlying issue. Any advice would be helpful thanks.
  7. I have had two acl tears and gained about 30lbs since the surgery. I have found that consistent light work focus on legs and the knees has helped tremendously. The pain was there at first but the more i kept the routine going the pain was non existent. But when I fell off the wagon for a few months it was back. Moral of the story is keep up the work and it will keep quiet.
  8. Is it possible to do miniquest out of order or a little late?
  9. Awesome goals I am definitely in your corner. Family and work life can sap the life out if you if you aren't actively fight to maintain it. I have a son also and being a good example is really the only true way to teach children IMHO. Good luck on your quest, I'm cheering for ya!
  10. Awesome to hear there are kindred spirits on NF! I really need to get the finances in order, or I may keep stressing out which will lead to even worse fitness levels.... fitness was so easy when I had no responsibility besides making it to class on time.
  11. Hey all, I am a newbie to the challenge thing but I am looking forward to doing more about my overall fitness and general well being. I am a science-nerd and spend 90% of my time thinking while sitting in one place. I was once a competitive athlete many moons ago, but injuries along with family, and a day job have dominated my schedule for years now. I think I am ready to get my crap together and do more with what I have and not whine about what is not my reality. Main Quest : Lose some excess weight and develop more overall body strength, especially in legs and back How am I going to do this? Quest#1: Daily workouts before work. Every other day following the basic beginners body-weight routine and gradually moving to more advanced routine. One days that I don't "feel" like doing it at least get on the treadmill and jog for 1 mile. Quest#2: Eat less meat and cook more at home. Being at work 10-12 hours a day makes cooking pretty hard, even if my wife cooks I always manage to find myself somewhere out to eat. I have been studying the evolution of the human diet and have found tons of research that make a strong case for less meat and more veg (NOT PALEO, however I do not endorse fad diets). So I am going to get in touch with some local shops and farmers and start planning my food purchases a month ahead and meal prep weekly. This way I will avoid the take-out syndrome. Life Quest: Stick to my F-ing budget. I am horrible with keeping the books balanced!!! How? Go to a zero balance style of budgeting. Allocate all money for desired use immediately, even miscellaneous cash for take-out. Stats Height: 5’9†Current Weight: 195 lbs Goal weight for 6 week challenge: 185lbs
