  1. Thanks to everyone so much for the tips! I did a little research myself and sweet potatoes, avocado and nuts seem to be the consensus. Not a huge fan of nuts so I'll probably just try to add in avocados and sweet potatoes one or the other every day. I ate some pasta today to get my calories up, whole wheat so hopefully a little better for me than some other alternative. I didn't get a chance to run to the grocery store in the past few days but I'm planning to go tomorrow or the day after anyway, so I'll pick up some things that have healthy fats/higher calories in them. Maybe dried fruits to up calories? I may try to add in just a little bit of dairy too. I cut everything out except natural things, basically, like, fruit and veggies and meat, eggs. I didn't have any trouble sticking to it, just worried about the calories thing. But I might pick up some yogurt too this time around. Thanks again everyone! xxx
  2. Hey guys! I know I haven't been on here very much because I've been away, but I was just coming to you guys to ask a question. I've been trying to switch to eating at least primarily paleo and I'm kinda concerned because I tracked my intake for a day and even though I'm always full, eat when I'm hungry, etc. I haven't been taking in enough calories. Does anyone have some pointers for this? I used to get most of my calories from things like potatoes, whole grain pasta, brown rice, cheeses. Now that I'm on mainly just fruit/veggies and meat I'm falling way short of my BMR.
  3. Hey guys! So I did the BBWW today and it really took it out of me, but I managed to get through three circuits! I also walked 10, 000 steps today, which I try to do everyday, and I didn't eat anything other than fruits, vegetables and meat. I ate some soup that did have potatoes in it but for the rest of the day I ate healthy enough that I don't feel like that would have ruined my day. Overall, I few like I'm getting back up on the horse pretty effectively! xxx
  4. Hey everyone! My vacation was awesome for those of you who are asking! I saw ultra-nerd Chris Hardwick do standup and, although my sister - and I love her despite saying this - is kinda a bad influence, I pretty much stayed on the course. I was still kind of messed up physically while I was away so I didn't get to do a lot of working out, but I ate pretty much healthy and if I new I'd be eating something unhealthy I ate pretty much veggies the rest of the day to limit it to one meal instead of letting it ruin my whole day. (Which has been a huge issue for me in the past) I'm home now, and my back is feeling so, so much better, honestly! I'm only just getting back up on the horse as far as working out, but every day for the past week I've walked about 10, 000 steps, and that's my goal so I'm proud of that. Haven't done the BBWW again yet since my injury healed but I'm planning on doing it tomorrow so I'll update y'all on that tomorrow. I'm feeling good though! As for my life goals, the writing is going really, really well, and I'll have another book finished (hopefully) in a few days. School's pretty much over, too, although I may be taking a semester or two's worth of classes over the summer. This week what I really want to focus on is eating absolutely paleo. Meat, veggies, and fruit only, basically. That's all I bought when I went grocery shopping and although I did go to Panera Bread for a dinner with a friend today, I'm super proud to report my meal was entirely paleo! I'm also going to try to focus on getting back into the BBWW and keeping up the walking trend. Personally what I've been doing lately is just enjoying the weather finally looking up and binge watching Reno 911 with my nights. Guys I really appreciate all the support! You're all so sweet and it's really awesome to have some people cheering for me so, yeah! Update coming tomorrow when I start doing the BBWW again. xxx
  5. It looks like you're doing an awesome job and you have pretty manageable goals, so it seems like you're off to a great start and definitely on the right track to get to your main goal!
  6. Sounds like you're doing an awesome job and having your husband to run with you as a sort of 'workout buddy' can really, really help. Especially if that makes running into something you look forward to. Keep up the awesome work!
  7. Hey there! Sometimes it can be a little overwhelming to have a lot of goals each week, so once your workout/diet sort of get to be a habit that you just automatically do, it may be a little easier to focus on also mixing in your life goals.
  8. Sounds like you're doing well so far! I work and go to school from home so I feel the struggle of just getting up and moving. Sometimes it can be a motivator to get one of those apps for your phone that tells you how many calories you're burning from walking if you need any motivation.
  9. Seems like you had a great week two! I have a serious issue with sometimes feeling like I just want to fall face first onto my bed instead of working out so the fact that you worked out even when you didn't want to is killer. And it's great to have support, that can be the hardest thing sometimes.
  10. It seems like you're absolutely killing it! I can't even imagine how hard it is to worry about your health and working out with a two year old and being in school. I'm in school with only myself to worry about and sometimes I even feel overwhelmed. Keep slaying!
  11. Hi everyone! As far as looking into help with my back, my sister and I are having a little mini-vaca this weekend as a late birthday present and we're getting massages so if that doesn't help at all I'm going to go to a chiropractor. I'm feeling a little better, though, so I'm going to at least try to get through one circuit of the BBWW today. Food-wise I'm still doing okay. I ate one or two things that weren't super healthy (this is always the worst time for me since I shop every two weeks. I still have food left but it's mostly the stuff I'm not a big fan of) but I still have definitely cut down on going out and when I do I've been getting a salad so I think overall I've still been improving.
  12. Same here to what a few other people have said, week times are very busy for me, but I'm planning to check on everyone's challenges tomorrow when I finally get a moment to breathe haha. Had some bumps in my own progress as far as an injury that's been bugging me and a party where I had a slice of chocolate cake (but ate very healthy the rest of the day! And made a very conscious decision to have some cake since it was homemade by my sister and she's a professional baker.) But I'm still committed!
  13. Haha this probably makes me sound like a little bit of a loser, but I actually love to do my school so that's not really the issue. I just sit down and watch a dozen episodes of Castle instead of actually working So far what I'm doing is just sitting aside my computer/phone/whatever and working when my roommates are watching TV that I don't care about. So then I can't watch it and I'm not distracted from my work. I haven't eaten any fries yet! Even though today my sister got McDonald's and offered me her fries since she couldn't finish them. I said no and I was really proud of myself actually haha. Things are going okay! Food-wise I feel like I've been doing really well, I've had a few treats here and there (namely my sister's homemade double chocolate cake with fresh raspberries) but even that I didn't eat a whole slice of and I ate really healthy the rest of the day, so I think I'm still pretty on track and I was really never trying to go on a 'diet' and to me a lifestyle change means that having treats sometimes is still okay. I have unfortunately hit a bit of a bump with my exercise though. I hurt my back somehow (not sure, just woke up with a pulled muscle) and I've been doing yoga that's supposed to be specifically for back pain, but the bodyweight workout is really not doable right now because of my injury unfortunately. I'm still pretty confident I'll be able to still meet my goal but this is kinda discouraging. So I've missed a few days of the BBWW but not letting that get me too down!
  14. Thanks to everyone for being so awesome and welcoming! That sounds like an awesome initiation, I'm really excited. I admit I'm still sorta learning the ropes to the site so being part of a group seems like a great idea.
  15. Hiya all! If there's still space I'd love to join up too! I could definitely use some accountability. I'm AJ, of the magical East Coast-land and I'm hoping to join up with the assassins after this challenge.
  16. Hi everyone! I'm AJ, I'm 18 and I'm from the East Coast. Not totally sure if I'm assassin-material or if I'm really leaning toward any particular group just yet, but here I am for now! I sorta have a very inclusive goal of wanting to get healthier and stronger just in general. I'd like to be able to start lifting weights by the end of the year, and at some point I'd like to be able to run a 5K like the Color Run with my sister. I love to cook, so I'm really excited to start cooking more at home as a sort of way to be healthier and also to learn how to cook healthier stuff. My favorite assassin, hands-down, of all time, is Deadpool. I cosplay Deadpool, I read the Deadpool comics, I'm basically championing the Deadpool movie, he's definitely first in my book. So, yeah, that's me!
  17. Hey guys! Thanks so much for the support! I'm checking out the Assassin's Board now. So, for an update, today was the first day I did the Beginner Bodyweight Workout within this challenge and I got to two circuits, but I feel like I was really pushing myself and I had good form so I'm still proud of myself! I walked five thousand steps already and I'm walking to work later. (I shoot for ten-thousand a day.) Health-wise I've been eating really well, I did get Sheetz last night but I got a veggie wrap and ate healthy the rest of the day. Today I've eaten pretty healthy and I thought I might share one of my favorite recipes with you guys. It's pretty simple and really yummy, but it's not totally paleo. It's sort of a mix between macaroni salad and tuna casserole. What you'll need for one serving One can of tunaA serving of shrimpA serving of your favorite pastaVeggies (I use cherry tomatoes and broccoli)About 1/2 cup of mayonnaise. So, the first thing you should do is cook your shrimp if you need to, at least thaw them out. While you're doing that, cook your pasta too. You can either cook one serving, or cook the whole box. I don't do that just because if I do I'll eat way too much by myself. Once your shrimp and pasta are done, toss your shrimp, tuna, and veggies in with the pasta. I would recommend mixing it around a little before you actually put in the mayo so that the tuna isn't all in one lump. And then just put your mayonnaise in, mix it around until it's pretty evenly distributed and then pop it in the fridge. I usually make this before I workout and shower, and then when I get out it's cool enough to eat. So, yeah, there you go guys! I'm pretty happy with this challenge so far!
  18. Hi guys! I'm AJ, 18, East Coast represent! I'm basically here because I've been following Nerd Fitness and I'm super out of shape right now, so I want to do something about that! A real sort of moment of realization for me was last year when I went to SDCC and I was just getting exhausted so easily just from walking around and that was when I really realized that I needed to do something about my health. Obviously I'm getting really started later than I would have liked but I'm taking the steps now! As far as long term goals, I basically just want to get stronger and healthier. By the end of the year I'd really like to at least be started on barbell lifting. Right now I'm pretty much only working with bodyweight exercises but I'd really like to get into actual lifting. Short term stuff, one of my goals is to actually be able to get through three circuits of the Beginner Bodyweight Workout, since the most I've been able to get through so far is two. I also want to be more aware of what I'm eating and not just mindlessly snack when I'm bored which is a really big problem for me. The last thing I really want to watch over this six weeks especially is not eating unhealthy food just because I'm away from home at a convention or concert or whatever. I know I can eat good food and still healthy food even if I go out but something about being on 'vacation' just makes me want to eat plates and plates of french fries. For my personal life I have a goal to write every day, and also work more on my classes every day. My school is online so it's easy for me to not be motivated enough to do real work and I really want to improve on that. I'm so happy to be at Nerd Fitness for this! Hopefully the challenge goes pretty well!
