  1. Ok Just a quick update before I leave on vacation today. Checked Body Fat and its down to 18.9%!!! Weight is at 207.5, down from 210 last week. Also did a benchmark run on pushups and situps this morning (dont have a pullup bar at home yet) and did 29 pushups and 30 sit ups in the time, so over halfway there. Progress photo from week 1-3
  2. I looked around and didnt really see a post on this in particular, if there is feel free to lock this post and direct me to the open thread. I am interested in trying an obstacle run. I have always been interested in them but have never signed up. They seem like a true ranger test to me. You need a good combination of speed, strength and agility to complete them in a decent time. So who here is currently training for a race and what race/location is it. I think it would be cool to get NF race teams together if we are close enough. Also, what are you doing to train for the race. Rangers sound off!!
  3. Im going to the beach saturday 6/6 for a week. Luckily the condo has a small gym, the beach is great for running too and pushups require about the space of a closet. Diet may suck but I should make good gains on my run time because I hope to do morning and evening 2 mile beach runs. Sand running is a beautiful pain.
  4. Yea the WOD I did my first time was 5 sets of 10 X Deadlifts 10 X Cleans 400m run Although the weight was heavily modified I haven't done these exercises in over 10 years so it was a definite shock to the system.
  5. Yea I didn't work out at all yesterday because I can barely walk and today's not much better
  6. It was the smaller of the 2. Its more laid back there. I went to the late class and it was just the owner, me and one other member that it was their first day. It allowed for a really intimate class where he could really break the moves down and stress form. I had done deadlifts before but cleans were also in the WOD and I had never done those. I have to say I cant remember ever being that drained from a workout or the last time I left a gym truly feeling like I left everything on the mat. And he took time to do some mobility training after the workout with rollers and bands so that we wouldnt be quite as sore today and I can actually walk this morning and was able to make it up the stairs so apparently it worked.
  7. Ok so on a serious note all doubts I had about crossfit are gone and I only did my first class. A+ coach and an A+ guy. The workout was just tough enough that I could finish it with 0 gas left in the tank. He even realized my form was slacking and took weight off the bar while I was gone on the run. This coach has a bachelors degree in exercise science and wellness so he seems pretty legit. Plus the help with the diet will be a big plus. I see where the cost comes from now. He watched and critiqued my entire workout and made sure I didnt break form and didnt quit. Its been a long time since I enjoyed a workout that much
  8. I dont have a rice cooker, looks like that needs to be a purchase very soon.
  9. So I had to Google frittata lol had no clue what that was. But that's exactly what I'm wanting for breakfast. Does it do ok heated back up?
  10. I'm trying to eat better but time constraints kill me. I commute over an hour to work and have to leave my house around 5am. Then when I get off I get to the gym around 5 and home about 630. Then I will squeeze in supper and spend some time with the family but if I want 8 hours I need to be in bed by 830. Then I'm back up at 430am and I've got 30 minutes to shower and get my stuff ready for work and I'm gone. Now that I've discussed my crappy time constraints, I'll talk about diet. I'm about 23% body fat right now so I'm trying to go as low carb as possible. I'm looking for semi paleo but doesn't have to be strict because I need some carbs to work out hard. Also, my job is mainly on the road so I usually have no way to heat lunch. I'd like to prepare enough food on Sunday afternoon to last until Friday lunch. Does anyone have any experience with this sort of thing? If so, what kind of options do I have? Thanks for the help!
  11. I do a protein shake with chocolate protein powder, cold coffee and 1 cup or raw spinach with a little almond milk to sweeten it. Sounds odd but it's actually pretty good.
  12. Yea its pretty sweet, I'll be glad when the clan gets a little bigger
  13. I may be wrong but it seems like parks would be a good place to do most workouts. You would have to improvise on most of the weight workouts, but you could just invest in a good sandbag to throw in the trunk and take with you that would open a lot of possibilities. And you have the playground equipment for pullups and such. Not to mention that for the weights workouts you could always toss random kids on the crowded days....but then you may have to run from angry soccer moms and/or cops, which I guess is a workout in itself so its a win-win if you ask me lol.
  14. Ok so I went to the 2 boxes close to my house today. I have 2 within 5 miles. Luckily they are both very different atmospheres. One is more quiet and laid back, the owner there was very cool and informative. Its a smaller box but seems to have all the equipment needed. The owner said he would want me to do 5 free classes before I joined to make sure I liked it. And encouraged me to try the other one aswell before I made my decision. The cost is $85 a month. The second one is owned by a younger couple around my age. Its a larger box, with a lot more people in there working out. It had loud music blasting and had flatscreens with everyones times on the wall. The equipment and setup of this one one looked a lot better. I also liked the energy here better. He wants me to do 3 classes free before i decide as well. He also encouraged me to try the other one. The cost here is $81 a month. Atleast I have a few choices and 8 free sessions to make a fair decision on the sport. Gunna put my money where my mouth is tomorrow and try the first one.
