  1. Week One: Complete! Report Card: Quest 1: A - I walked every day, for an average of 35 minutes. Quest 2: A - I did yoga every day. Quest 3: Incomplete - I really need to step up my strength training. I'm struggling with the 100F+ heat and no A/C making me feel lethargic, but I gotta start sucking it up and do it anyway. Life Quest: Applied for 7 jobs this past week - working toward a goal I don't have complete control over, so I'm calling this a win. Thoughts: I dislike self-discipline - it's another "muscle" I need to strengthen, I know, but I just feel tired from making myself do stuff - even though I feel better once I've done it. This challenge will be...um...a challenge, but SO good for me!
  2. Ok, forgot to update yesterday, but I walked 2.83 mi, did my yoga and some strength training. Today was a 1.9 mi walk (36 min), day 14 of the 30-Day Yoga Challenge, and another job application - and other than that I took it easy, because I have been all sorts of tired today for some reason - I theoretically slept enough, but it was just one of those days.
  3. Thanks! It's funny, I know they're all exercise-related so I don't feel like there is much variety, but, as predicted, the exercise has done wonders for my diet too, so really it's a win. Aaand so far today I went on my 1.9 mi walk = 36 min and did Day 12 of the Yoga Challenge. Now if my crustless quiche would just finish baking, I could eat breakfast!
  4. I'm back again. I have now accomplished 10 assisted split squats (per leg) that tried to kill me, 3 sets of ten incline pushups, and 20 reps of dumbbell rows (I really have no muscle strength at all, can you tell?) Now my body feels something akin to jell-o, which I think is probably good. So I've worked toward all 3 challenge goals today, and I applied for a job as a way to work toward my life quest. #win
  5. Thank you! Yeah, I'm trying to break the cycle of "if I can't do it perfectly, I might as well not bother" - it's SO unproductive. That said... I just completed Day 11 of the 30-Day Yoga Challenge. Don't worry, I'm still going to do a minimum of 30 days of yoga during this 6 weeks. I simply started forming my habits early Mini Quest: Are my challenge goals SMART goals? Yes, I think so. I've allowed myself a little room to maneuver once I get a job (fingers crossed). I've been unemployed for so long, I don't even remember how to work 8 hours a day, so I'm being kind to myself. Hence the 30 days of yoga out of 42 challenge days and the 1day/week leeway on the walking. I think these are manageable, even if the...um....stuff...hits the fan. yAy!
  6. omg. I am in love with your use of Disney lyrics. <3 Good luck with your challenge!
  7. OK, I also feel like I should point out that I've never worked out for 6 weeks straight in my life. So, as simple as this challenge may look to an outsider, I'm totally intimidated. I've been on the wagon for 12 days so far, both diet (which I'm tracking via myfitnesspal) and exercise (which I'm tracking via mapmywalk), despite the challenge of an emotional breakup a few days ago that made me want to totally derail. But I am strong! I am woman! Or, ya know, something. Anywho... Day 1 - BRING IT OOOON! Woke up naturally at 6:15 AM (woot), drank a cup of black coffee and went for a 36min/1.9mi walk. So far, so good.
  8. I think that's a great idea! I'm on the West Coast but I use retreatfinder.com - it has a cost rating system, so you know what you're getting into. I just did a cursory 5 minute search which led me to Eastover Estate and Retreat in Lenox, MA - looks like that's closer to $300 for two people. I'm sure there are other options there as well. Good luck, and best wishes to the bride!
  9. Hi all! This will be my first challenge. I'm also new to the boards, so please forgive any errors. I'm really enjoying what little yoga I've done, and since one of my quests focuses on an (almost) daily yoga practice, I was sent to join Team Druid. I'm excited, but a little nervous. I don't think I've exercised for 6 weeks straight ever in life, so while my quests may seem simple, it will be a huge accomplishment to complete all of them. I'll need lots of encouragement, but I'm pretty sure I'm in the right place for that
  10. Hi all! Lady N here, posting for the first time. I joined NFA back at the end of December and leveled up my diet like crazy, lost 20 lbs in 6 weeks and then promptly gave up. It's the perfectionist in me - I am one of those all or nothing people, so naturally my weight yo-yos with my alls and nothings. I figure maybe this 6-Week Challenge might help me stick with it this time. I will be focusing on exercise this time around because it's easier for me to eat right when I'm getting enough exercise. I'm slowly recovering from illnesses and injuries that incapacitated me for 18 months and I grew a little too accustomed to sedentary life. So, here goes. Starting metrics: Height: 5'9" Weight: ~266 lbs Chest: 51" Waist: 50" Hips: 54" Biceps: 17.5" Thighs: 31" Calves: 20" Main Quest: Lose ~ 130 lbs OR reach a size 6, whichever comes first. Challenge Quests: 1) Goal: Walk at least 15 min/day. Measurement (weekly): 6-7 days = A; 5 days = B; 4 days = C; <4 days = F % of final grade: 40 2) Goal: Complete the 30-Day Yoga Challenge Measurement: 30 days = A; 25-29 days = B; 20-24 days = C; <20 days = F % of final grade: 40 3) Level up free weights from 15 lbs to 20 lbs Measurement: Pass/Fail % of final grade: 20 Life Quest: Acquire and keep a job. Motivation: I turn 33 on July 10 and I want my life moving solidly in a good direction by then. I don't enjoy having to constantly second guess activities because I'm not sure if they are physically possible for me. I want to live a fuller life in so many areas. Whee! Now to get to work!
