  1. Thanks for the support, everyone! This has been an interesting week so far. Doing great food-wise - eating food with little or no processing (although I suppose cooking and cutting count as processing!) and I have yet to eat my weekly treat (it'll probably be a beer tonight at a work-related event). I got in a great workout yesterday with my personal trainer - a full hour and a combo of cardio and strength moves, so that knocks two off the board already. I'm planning to do yoga for my stretching tonight and I'll be going for a run with my s/o tomorrow after work. Good things are happening! I'm new to forums and I'm not doing a great job keeping up with the threads, but it feels wonderful knowing that there are other people out there who are doing their own good work and supporting my own. *AW*
  2. Very cool quests, Maiki, and you have an awesome perspective on moving past the last challenge and jumping into this one. I wanted to ask one question: Does your time on these forums count as part of your 2 hours of daily internet use?
  3. Oddly, 1 song is super motivating - it's not something that I do very often, just buy one song because I like it (as opposed to an entire album by a band I already like). I love to read and I get most of my books from the library, though that's a good alternative reward if there isn't a song I'd like to get. Awesome idea, thanks!
  4. Great question - I'm glad you're making me think about this now! Honestly, I got a little confused by the character approach (rewards through leveling up) so I totally forgot to create rewards that better suit me. Here's what I'm thinking: For each week I'm successful at completing my quests I can buy one song from iTunes. To celebrate my success at completing the challenge, I will get a massage. Those rewards are really motivating!
  5. Hello Doodlies! This is my first NF challenge, though I'm not new to fitness, and I'm excited to join a group of people with a diverse range of strengths and needs. I would say that I have a strength in plant-based foods. I'm vegan and I focus on incorporating whole foods into my diet as much as possible. My Achilles heel is sugar and I try to find creative ways to satisfy my sweet-tooth with naturally sweet foods. Since I'm a beginner at these forums and challenges, please let me know if I'm missing anything or should say/do something differently. Thanks in advance for your support!
  6. Introduction: Hi, I’m Amanda and I’m excited to dive into my first Nerd Fitness challenge! A little about me and why I’m doing this: From 2010 to 2013 I lost 100lbs – the good ol’ fashioned way, eating well and exercising. Everything was great and in 2014 I ran my first 15k, feeling strong and accomplished. Within one month I began to have some medical issues – heart palpitations during exertion – that required me to stop working out completely until they were figured out. While ultimately the cause is inconclusive even after a battery of tests, I have been given the okay by doctors to resume exercise (though at a much lower intensity than before) and I am still under medical care. This challenge is a way for me to get back into the routine of exercising regularly while also helping me shed the 20lbs I put on during my exercise break last year. Main Quest: Lose 20lbs by my birthday (September 11th) Quest 1: Exercise regularly. Measurement: Cardio 2x/week. Strength 2x/week. Stretching 2x/week. (More than one may be on the same day). Minimum of 30 minutes each. Quest 2: Eat well. Measurement: Eat primarily whole foods. No more than one treat per week (i.e. pastry, chocolate, wine). Life Quest: Take more time to relax and enjoy life. Measurement: Take a least one opportunity each week to spend a minimum of an hour outdoors. Motivation: I want to feel strong and accomplished again, just as I did a year and a half ago. I want to fit comfortably in the smaller sized clothes I wore last year. I want to feel like “me†again.
