  1. As a lay person, Tarkin was the furthest thing from awe-inducing, unless you're really into some Uncanny Valley.
  2. I'm pretty sure these are the exact reason you have to read this book. No substitutions will be accepted.
  3. This pisses me off because there are very strict laws governing what is and isn't an internship. If you're an intern, they're supposed to be *teaching and mentoring* you while doing the work that you want to be doing, not using you as unpaid/cheap office receptionist. Unless your interning to be an office receptionist, I guess, except then they really should have you working with an actual office receptionist who knows what to teach you.
  4. Any day of the week can be a Monday but only Mondays are always Mondays.
  5. Yeah, this winter is weird. It's a good excuse to wrap up in blankets and go to bed early!
  6. I love and adore my therapist. She's been pivotal in getting me from -10 to a solid 6 on the functional scale - and also helping me accept that I'll probably never be a full 10 everyday like I feel like I should be.
  7. This is a great way to start my Friday, thank you.
  8. Trying to finish this &#$^ project so that I'm not as stressed as I was for the first challenge. Also contemplating how I want to track it outside of the website. I have a weekly journal and I write stuff in it but then I never remember to look in it later. I did do some gym-time last night and even went off and did some stuff on my own while The Husband biked, so that's good.
  9. A vegetable The Husband will partake in! Awesome! For recipe gathering and maintenance, I love the ChefTap app. The interface is easy to read and they pretty much recipe import down to a science, so it's super easy to copy a recipe over.
  10. Went to the gym and did weights for the first time in, uh, at least a year. Expected outcome: Actual outcome: (except only sorta because I can't really lift my arms that high right now, siiiigh)
  11. I do totally get it. I'm currently in a funk over my writing because I've convinced myself that I'm never be as good as the writers in editing. So much imposter syndrome, uuuugh.
  12. Katakana's my rough spot as well. It's just so... pointy. Yes? I think I was thinking in terms of mini-challenges but I didn't have anything fully fleshed out. Other challenge ideas (again, just throwing stuff at the wall here): Share an article or blog in your practice language with commentary in your practice language Read/review a book in your practice language. Maybe find a book or series that comes in multiple languages and read it together? Multilingual book club? Duolingo sprints - it seems like this is an app that many people are using so maybe start a list of Duolingo names so we can track and score everyone (points in a week, etc). Could also utilize this Duolingo clubs thing for same languages. Cooking in your practice language? Like, here's a recipe written in this non-native language and I followed it without help of a translator and this is how it came out. Find a place locally that you can use your language and make it a part of your 4-Week challenge to visit once a week - easier with some languages than others Mass translation - mods pick a poem/song/short piece and everyone translates into their practice language. Could facilitate discussion between language practitioners on why they did X instead of Y but also maybe get some help from native speakers on translation of idioms, etc. Google/Skype group hangouts in practice language, maybe watching a movie or TV show in that language (with no subtitles, ooooo) or discussing a topic.
  13. My jealousy knows no bounds. We have a high of 20 today and supposedly a high of 40 tomorrow and I'm so. frickin'. excited. It's depressing, really. Anyway, enjoy your walks!
  14. I'm so sorry for the loss of your kitty and compounding family drama. Why are some people so GD awful? Hang in there! It sounds like you're definitely validated in snapping at your cousin, especially if you can do it productively. If he tries to lock the gate (electric fence wtf), call the police and tell them that he's impugning on your mother's right to shelter in her own home. Have an officer meet you at the gate while you contact your cousin and ask to have the gate opened.
  15. I'm in! Need to work on my Japanese and Spanish. For languages like Japanese, do we want to write in the romanization or in the characters? It's easy enough to add an additional language keyboard to phones and computer now but it does add some additional complexity for beginners. Windows - Adding language keyboards Assorted Apple Products - change language settings (if any Apple folks have a better link, let me know and I'll update) Android (stock) - change language settings For phone typing, I use Swift Key and really love it. It's super easy to add additional languages and switch between them. https://swiftkey.com/en (I currently have English, German, Spanish, Russian and Japanese installed) What about building a list of mini challenges, like "change your phone's default language to a non-native language for a day/week"?
  16. Again? I just assumed you never stop. Cheering is great and all but you should harass The Husband into doing more stuff. He's not on here but he needs nagging to do his biking before his race in a few months.
  17. Not a veteran but always up for a challenge. Watch out, vets, the newb is coming for you.
  18. I think your observations are pretty on the mark. Before my first Zumba (and Pump) class, I didn't realize that you were just sort of dropped into without any learning ahead of time. It was pretty discouraging because I did feel like everyone was judging me for not knowing the moves and not being able to keep up because everything was new. I'm glad you guys tried to talk with her and encourage her - I hope she comes back!
  19. Yeah, that's the app. I didn't mind paying the full price because I looked at it like a book I haven't read - I'd be willing to be more than $2.99 for a book I only knew a little about, so I could shell out $2.99 for something that's like an audio book but makes me go outside.
  20. I don't know much Supernatural, other than Castiel-gifs are my favorite. (I do know enough to know that this isn't actually Castiel but that was part of why this amused me, haha)
  21. Ain't no shame in body weight exercises! Gyms are nice, though, because a lot of them offer classes and have staff available to show you how to use stuff. I like that you're including strength training in your workouts - it's important!
  22. My plan is mostly to make myself update my thread every few days - I need to set up one of them thar fancy spreadsheets like people have but I haven't had a chance to sit down and do it yet. I also have a weekly planner that I can track in, if I remember to look in it that day (ha). I would 100% be up for some PVP Declutter. The Husband is big on PVP, so I could actually convince him to help.
