  1. Hi I'm behind but subbed now! Good stuff in here! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Ahhhhhh you over pulled it! Too much amp juice, ha. Can't wait to see you hit it, getting awfully close to my own bw snatch - know what it feels like to chase that white whale. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. I'm woefully behind and your thread moves too fast to catch up on, so I'm just going to assume you are kicking ass. Also, happy birf! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Holy shit there's a lot going on in here. Amazing work! So basically you're a regular human being. That's kinda good reassurance though, cause sometimes you stretch the awesome a little too far and I start to wonder . My favorite jerk technician is a 53 kg junior from Latvia - I watch her jerks on loop on the regular, hoping maybe it will rub off via osmosis or some shit, but it never does . 5. No, a power jerk is a real thing. Power, in weightlifting terminology, means "caught above parallel." So whereas a clean is caught in a squat where a power clean is caught with slightly bent knees, the same is true for squat/power jerks, respectively. Some people make a specific distinction between a power jerk (where your feet are allowed to reposition on the platform) and a push jerk (where your feet don't move), but that's starting to split hairs. 6. Damn, that's a big PR! I suppose I should get caught up on your (and everyone else's) thread. Speaking of which, oy - so busy. Those of you who know me know that this is a busy time of work for me, but it's been quadruply so this quarter. One of my colleagues took a new position, which is great for him, but just left me with all of his work on top of my own. We have a super tight timeline to get quarter-end results ready for all of the downstream processes that need them, and that led to some long (long long) nights. Hypothetical question, can a glass of wine at 4:30am reasonably be called unwinding after a long day of work, or am I just a crazy morning drunk at that point. Wait, don't answer that. Got a chance to recharge a bit over the long weekend, but we're back at it now trying to fix everything that got messed up during the crazy rush. Things should calm down after this week though. Hopefully. In other news, I fired up the bat signal: The following conversation ensued: Lulz, needed a good laugh today. But this is what I mean about rapport. Really excited to dig back in with J. I actually took the first workout he ever sent me and did that today (adjusted for new maxes) - had a great workout. Coincidence? I THINK NOT! Future Updates to come more frequently as I emerge from the darkness of year-end. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Mostly that J is awesome, ha. Umm... Right, here. (We moved from South Lyon about a year ago). But a bw snatch for a woman is more impressive than a bw snatch for a man, soooo we calls it even? Also, 1 kilo closer! https://www.instagram.com/p/BAXpxAOk-lc/ That's 81 for a 1 kilo pr. Squats and CJ's still really lacking though. I had a pretty good CJ session yesterday (hitting a few at 95), but couldn't do better than 90 today. 81/90 is kinda tight as a snatch/cj ratio - time to get that strength back up! (Also, video is out of focus, whoops. Shot it with my camera instead of my phone, since my phone tripod mount was in Mrs Roo's car. Forgot that I actually had to focus the camera, ha. There's a couple kettlebells just off the platform that got cropped out that look suuuuper sharp though.)
  8. OP updated! And also, I touched a barbell yesterday! For the first time in almost 2 weeks! We took a trip to Dallas for the Cotton Bowl last week (uuuuuggggghhhhhh) and work has been swamped since we came back, so rather than just jump right back in to my program, I dropped in yesterday for quick tune-up session. Hang snatch+OHS, and hang C&Js, and pause back squats in the 80-85% range. Balance and things are always a little rusty when coming off a layoff, so felt good to get some reps under my belt. Feeling ready to dig back in today.
  9. 1. Ha, I know them feels. I just left the platform behind when we moved. If the new owner didn't want it, he could saw it up lol. Ain't nobody got time for that. 2. Suuuuuuure. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. No, year end is why I still haven't updated the OP yet. #accountantlife Hi everyone, updates soon I promise! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  15. Hiiii! Took a challenge off, sorry about that. Still here and still kicking, will update with a real challenge soon. ----------------- Hokay, so! What's new?! I honestly can't even remember how things were going whence we last left off, but things are as busy as ever. Mrs Roo is kicking ass both at school and at her new job, leaving me with more daddy time than I ever imagined. This obviously has both its pluses and minuses. It's great to spend more time with the roo-lets (especially when they're awake), but it's not like my workload went anywhere, so I end up having to do a lot of work at night once the kiddos get to sleep and still feel like I'm doing a shittier job in general. Oh, and it's a lot harder to get into the gym, naturally. Trying to keep up, but always feel behind. Probably more on this in the goals, ha. It's a little bit of a bummer, having gone totally gangbusters the first half of last year, to have kind of plateaued since then. A few things have gone into that - J had gotten busy with his own life (I hear kids can do that to you), so I was training on my own for a little while, and I'm just not as effective that way. I reached out to a local coach here thinking that maybe I'd be able to get into his gym for some actual in-person training every once in a while, but the reality is that no, driving to the way wrong part of town to train just isn't usually feasible. And also, I don't really like his programming that much (which is leading to me not really trying as hard), and I just don't have the same kind of rapport with him that I did with J, and it feels like a big failed experiment. I'm just finishing up the last couple weeks of a cycle with this coach, at which point it's time to re-evaluate. Another little experiment that got thrown in there as well, and don't laugh, is Mrs Roo got the hard sell from one of the other moms where the kiddos go to gymnastics, and decided she wanted to give it a try. And also wanted me to do it with her. There's a box very near our house, with a good reputation, and also producing games level athletes, so we signed up for their foundations course. It was...fine? It was good for Mrs Roo, and she got some exposure to some stuff (barbell etc) outside of me, so that was good. I tore my hands up something fierce trying to do kipping pullups and toes to bar and shit, so that sucked. I had been working on those callouses for years, ha! We've done a few wods since, and my thoughts are mostly yeah, it's fine. It's honestly been kinda fun doing some conditioning work, and I should really be doing that more often. My concerns about high rep deadlifts and olympic lifts and such were mostly overblown, but it helps that my technique is already pretty sound (relatively speaking from a crossfit perspective). There's still some stupid crossfit stuff that I didn't really agree with because crossfit, but that was to be expected. That said, training time is hard enough to come by as is, and it was hard to keep up with my weightlifting programming at the same time. Mrs Roo's interest has tailed off a little, so I'd like to get stuck back in with the classic lifts. Goals are pretty simple. 1.) Train 3x weekly. 2.) Don't eat like an asshole. Goals that I've mooooostly been keeping up with mooooost of the time, but the difference between that and really nailing it is the difference between plateauing and progress so it's time to get back on the horse for real. The near-ish term goal that I really want to hit is a bodyweight snatch. I'm 5-6 kilos away, and don't expect to hit it during this 4 week challenge, but if I can at least get back in the right routine, I should get there by the end of Q1. Onward!

  17. So this week has been full of 15 hour days and shitty food and not enough sleep and no training. So naturally I pooped into the gym at lunchtime and hit a jerk pr (102kg/225lb). Boom. Weightlifting is weird. Also, I went back to my Adistars today after trying a few sessions in the Romaleos. I've come to the conclusion that I like them a lot better. The Nikes are super solid, but I feel like they have too much heel, so I feel like I'm on my tippy toes and off balance. Back in the Adidas today, my squats felt as solid as they have in a long time.
