  1. Signed, everyone. I may not be hip to Hyrule's methods all the time, but but pretty squarely in his camp on this one. Snatching is hard. Snatching in competition is hard. But there's no way to get that experience without just doing it. I mean, I don't know if 115 will win. I'd guess that mountain view is probably a pretty big campus, but at the same time "people who compete in the snatch" is a pretty small subset of most any population. Seems as likely to me that you win in a walkover as you get crushed by a crossfitter with some talent. Either way, it sounds like this event is more about the experience, and that you'd benefit more from getting some competition snatch reps under your belt. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  9. It's not all bad. My snatch had been lagging so badly that it's nice to get it on par with my C&J for my given strength levels. Speaking of strength, that seems to be holding up fine as well (not blistering progress or anything, but not going backwards anyway). My CJ problems right now are twofold: 1) my clean technique is regressing. This hasn't been an issue in my ability to make any given clean (since I've still got some reserve strength here), but I'm just not nailing the positioning. Specifically, I'm not getting the bar into that perfect rack position every time anymore. This is leading me to not nail the hand adjustment for the jerk (right at that moment when the bar pops off the shoulders at the top of the clean) which is leading into... 2) I've lost all confidence in my jerk. When I had made the huge strides in the jerk in the first place, it was almost all mental. I just knew that they were going to go up so they did (Matt Foreman has a great article on this here). Now everything at or above around 90% just feels soul crushingly heavy, so I don't move with the same confidence. Part of this is to be expected, since we've really been focusing on catching my snatch up, but it's still frustrating as shit. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. On a related note, I have a brand new pair of old purple Pendlays (women's size 7.5, so like a men's 6) free to anyone who could use em. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Oh hey, if anyone is in the market for weightlifting shoes, Again Faster has 50% off all of their shoes right now (including Romaleos). I'm perfectly happy with my Adistars, but since those would be cost prohibitive to replace should I ever need to (and since I've always wanted to try the Nikes anyway), I pulled the trigger on a pair. 15. Sort of disappeared on you guys last challenge, sorry about that. Whence we last spoke, Mrs Roo was on the precipice of starting business school, and I was trying to figure out how to make everything work with my increased daddy and household responsibilities. Well, we're a few weeks in now, and the answer is basically "very carefully". Not that we didn't expect that school would be busy, but we both underestimated how much. I'm finding myself on solo daddy duty a lot, which is both awesome in the sense that I am getting to spend some QT with the Roo-lets that had been lacking, but also not awesome in the sense that I end up having to get back to work at 10:00 every night. Ew. So where does this leave the weightlifting? Well, I'm tryin' to keep on keeping on. Mostly been able to get in the gym 3 times a week still, but the sessions have been shorter and less productive. Compounding this is the fact that J has been dealing with his own work and daddy craziness, so I've been flying by the seat of my pants a lot. All told, it's been up and down. My snatch has continued to improve**, which is great, but my C&J has gone in the toilet (this is a very weird sentence for me to type, as the C&J has always been my comparatively stronger lift). Short term, the plan is to keep plugging away with the ad-hoc workouts. I've got a comp next weekend, and with the improvements in my snatch, I should comfortably beat my previous comp pr total, even if I can't make a big C&J. After that we're off on vacation for a bit (sooooo excited about this - we haven't gone on a proper vacation in years), then I'll see where things stand as to trying to get back into a more regimented block of training. Will update as I can, but as my disappearance last challenge evidenced, keeping up with NF fell down the priority list pretty far once things got busy. We'll see how it goes! **Hit a snatch PR yesterday, then proceeded to pop myself in the chin with a jerk and bite off a chunk of my lip. On balance that's probably a net positive? 20. First thought: vlogging while driving seems unsafe. Second thought: wait, cars are the other way around over there...I'm an idiot. Great job!! Right? Reminds me of Ilya - just walk up there and rip it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
