  1. Not been posting lately. Just been getting used to Crossfit. On my second week of member classes. Trying to use lighter bands every time I do pullups. Staying light on weights to make sure I use good form. Basically, just breaking myself down to build myself back up. But already seeing result. I've always been a crossfit skeptic, mainly because I like to work out alone. But I'm getting used to being pushed, and I'm starting to feel like that's what I need.
  2. Hey, all I was thinking was that it was close, open 24 hours, and would get me off the couch. I could have dealt with the lack of powerlifting equipment much better than the lunk alarm. I mean they wouldn't actually expect anyone to exert themselves in a "fitness" club. I was working out with dumbells and might have grunted.... The first time I had no idea what was going on. I was thinking about fire exits. The second time....well, when I went to the counter to cancel, I said "I can't deal with that" She said "We're a fitness club. We don't cater to bodybuilding." I mumbled "No you're not.", paid my cancellation fee, and left.
  3. Good grief! I should have taken a month vacation to start this. And I've only done the intro classes. But I did test out this morning to start the regular classes.
  4. I was living close to a Planet Fitness a couple of years ago. No squat racks or power racks. Only Smiths. I joined for some reason, probably thinking about not driving very far. In the first week I gave up on doing everything on a Smith machine, and was "lunk alarmed" twice. Good grief! How are you supposed to get a good workout? I walked up to the counter and canceled my membership right then.
  5. Crossfit intro After warmup and instruction 8:00 AMRAP 5 overhead squats (bar only) 10 kettlebell swings 15 singles Did 4 rounds. He asked if I want to test out, since I've been instructed on most of the lifts. I said one more intro class and I'll try it.
  6. Did it for two weeks last year, but didn't have very good coaching. Went to an intro class last week at another box and the coaching seemed much better. The only hesitation is adding an extra monthly bill. But, I decided that I really want to do this. And it isn't like I punch a clock. I can take an extra service call a week and pack a lunch to offset the extra $125 a month. In other words, STOP MAKING EXCUSES!!! OK. Gotta go to another intro class.

    Avocados

Don't know why I started this thread, but I love them. Healthy fats, potassium, dietary fiber, vitamins.... I just cut them in half, pull the seed, dump some Tony Chachere's on them, and eat it with a spoon out of the skin. A perfect in-between meal or snack.
  9. Thanks. I figured it was for all cross trainers, but as I was skimming, most workouts looked like crossfit.
  10. 3x5 squat 210 lbs 3x5 bench press 175 lbs 3x5 bent over rows 100 lbs Still trying to get back up to the weights I was doing before I came down with some viral bug a few weeks ago. It totally drained me. 1 mile walking 200 then running 200.

  12. After reading about the benefits of cold showers in another thread, I decided to start taking them. I started with the water luke warm, then after I soaked myself, I turned it all the way to cold. After washing from head down, my body had pretty easily acclimated to the temperature and I found myself standing in the water for several minutes, soaking, like I do with warm water. It wasn't near as bad as I thought it would be.
  13. Note: I don't do crossfit right now, but I do my own program. I hope it's OK to post my own WOD here. Yesterday 6/13: Did 3 sets 10 pullups (assisted. Still too much body weight but getting there) 10 dips 15 kettlebell swings (40 lbs) Note: had never done kettlebell swings before. This might be one of the best exercises that nobody at a regular gym does. Drove to high school track and did a mile walking 200m and running 200m. Today: REST
  14. OK, since reading this, I've spent the last hour reading about cold showers. I will be taking the plunge and start taking them twice a day. Staying on a workout plan is hard for me. Setting my mind to do something like getting used to cold showers is easy. ....And I've also been reading about Tough Mudders and thinking...hmmmm....who do I know who's crazy enough to do this with me...
  15. I went for about two weeks last year, but the box I went to only had intro classes at times when anyone with a real job couldn't make it. And the coach during the early class was only there to do his workout so I was basically trying to learn olympic lifts (which I had never done) by watching. I gave up after a couple of weeks. Recently, I've thought about trying it again. My current workout is a lot of compound lifts, coupled with conditioning and running. I went last week to a free intro class at a box, and the coach spent a lot of time teaching me the correct form for a couple of olympic lifts. I've seen it change lives. My brother-in-law went from 225 pounds of every day beer drinking and fast food to 205 pounds of solid muscle. He's 47 and has been going for 2 years now. He says he's always the last to finish his WOD, but doesn't care. He said he's only competing against himself and knows how far to push himself.
  16. That one day when you should be at the gym and decide to take an extra rest day. Then another....then another. Then you realize it's been a month.....
  17. I usually never do an introductory thread. I usually just start posting when I join a forum. I'm a 42, going on 43 year old male who is fighting the middle age pudge. I've lifted off and on for my entire adult life, just never really got really fit. As the years have gone by, with a crappy diet, I gained more weight. Recently, I decided to change jobs, location, and my whole outlook on life. I threw away my scale when I moved, because I just wanted this to be a complete lifestyle change. I started to do nothing but compound lifts, instead of isolation. I pretty much cut carbs out of my diet and added healthy fats. I got some kind of bug a few weeks ago and had to go to the doctor. I started not to look when they weighed me, but I looked anyway. I had gone from 245 (I'm 5'8") to 225. The thing that made me join this site is that it's not a sport or program specific site. Everywhere else you get answers to questions about changing a program (like adding cardio to a compound lifting routine) from guys who only think you should do it their way. I'm not in this anymore to get huge. I'm in this to get more fit and healthy.
