  1. Still here! My wife, son, and I got moved back to Honduras without any problems. I jumped back in today after taking last week to pack and prepare for the move back. Man, those few days off really hurt! I have been mixing in pull-ups (assisted up, slow burn down) because the rows just weren't cutting it for me. I will (hopefully) be finding a gym with free weights in the next week or so. Most of the gyms are just machines (bleh). I wouldn't call this morning a success, but at least I was moving. haha
  2. Checking in! Did my first round of 3 sets with a minute rest between. I'm not gonna lie, I cussed a little doing the last few lunges (I hate friggin' lunges!!). I added in some Krav movements to my warm-up, which I liked. I usually work out on just coffee. I use a banana and a glass of water as a reward system. I figure refusing to fed myself until I workout is a good way to make myself move!
  3. I can't say Mini-Me because he looks more like my wife. I would call W1 a not-failure. I wouldn't go as far as to say its a success though. This coming week should be a bit more low key. I am up to 2 rounds of the Beginnner routine. I feel like I could do 3, so that's what I am shooting for with about 1 minute rest in between.
  4. I hit it hard on Monday, mixed in some diamond push-ups. I meant to do another round today, but got busy doing errands and tending the mini-human. Thanks for checking in!
  5. Thanks for the replies! I am working in some ground kicks (instead of hip thrusts) and some air puncing/elbows. At least I won't be completely stale when I get back to class...
  6. Hello monks! I was sent here by Teirin from my first challenge thread. Shout out to the Krav practitioners in the house. Any suggestions for a newbie with no bags or equipment? I mean I punch the air and kick at flies but that just isn't the same... (traveling for the ssummer so I'm missing my training!) Im looking forward to growing as a person and fighting off my slowly growing daddy belly.
  7. Your name rocks! I actually signed up before reading your reply. Haha. I figure of I'm done lurking why not try a challenge? It was difficult to get going with Kraft initially but once I did I loved it. I am looking forward to getting back. A friend has some weights to so I am looking forward doing some dead lifts too!
  8. Thanks for the encouragement! I will check out the board. I sort of started a couple of weeks ago with walking everyday and have been fairly consistent. I have been doing a round every other day of the Beginnger routine but my hips and ankles have been sore! I am up to the warm up AND one round of the beginner routine along with a mile or so walk, so that's some progress.
  9. Yo! Since this is my first challenge, I want to start small and get some momentum. My wife and I live in Honduras and are visiting the states for the summer. This means that our diet and schedule are crazy out of wack and we eat out a lot. We will be going back halfway through the challenge, so part of my goal is to get through the summer without gaining anymore weight. Introduction: Yo! Since this is my first challenge, I want to start small and get some momentum. My wife and I live in Honduras and are visiting the states for the summer. This means that our diet and schedule are crazy out of wack and we eat out a lot. We will be going back halfway through the challenge, so part of my goal is to get through the summer without gaining anymore weight and actually completing the challenge. Main Quest: Establish a foundation of healthy daily patterns for a 10 month internship beginning in August. Quest 1: Fitness - Complete the following routine 5 days out of the week by week 6: 1 X NF Warm-Up 3 X NF Beginner Body Weight Routine Cool Down and stretch well Quest 2: Skill - Practice Krav Maga movements 3 times per week. Quest 3: Diet - No carbonated drinks. Motivation: 2 things are motivating me to change my current lifestyle (1) my 5 month old son (2) starting a Pastoral internship. To be the Daddy my son needs I will need to be fit and active. To be able to adjust to the hectic and weird schedule of a pastor I will need to be able to adapt easily and be generally healthy.
  10. Where to begin? I guess the most efficient way to summarize my fitness life up to now is in bulleted list. See below: Active childhoodMarching band in high school (along with a little weight lifting)Lots of drinking and no exercise the first few years of collegeyears of not caring about fitness AT ALL!5 years ago - A series of tragedies woke me up to the fleeting nature of human life4 years ago - FINALLY started caring about my health, made some diet changes, lifted some weights, did Crossfit for a few months, tried paleo and felt great - completed a Spartan Race (hoo-ya)3 years ago - Got married and moved to Honduras to teach at a Bilingual school (started lurking on NF site)2 years ago - maintained a generally active lifestyle with lots of walking and traveling, but did not maintain fitness as beforeLast year - started Krav Maga classes - had our first son (which tanked my fitness) - noticed some tingling in my legs and feet after prolonged sitting (which I had never had before) and promptly came to terms with the fact that I am getting old. NOW - in the US for the summer, changed jobs (still in Honduras), started trying to walk consistently and doing the NF Body Weight and Warm-Ups to get myself moving. Ok, that was probably more info than necessary, but there it is. I am not a stranger to fitness but I lack the discipline to maintain my fitness. Honestly, with the job change and having our son I am yet again reckoning with my own laziness and trying to figure out to stay healthy for my son. Living in Hondu makes some of the stuff difficult as equipment is really expensive and gyms are even more of a rip off. I absolutely love my Krav classes and plan on continuing those when we return. The dojo also does TacFit (its like Crossfit but with less weightlifting and more functional movements) which I am thinking of doing. I am naturally a generalist so I think I fit with the Ranger world best, although not sure if that is set in stone. I do well with goal/activity based fitness rather than routine based fitness. I like to be able to mix up what I am doing and learn skills while doing it. I am turning 30 in less than a month and I weigh 195 lbs (which the most I have ever weighed). I am realizing that I have fewer and fewer years to get my body working better. I want to be able to take my son hiking, camping, hunting, fishing, and generally just play with him like a kid. I am looking forward to learning and pushing myself!
