  1. Welcome! Feel free to join our group me as well as this group! (The link for it is in a previous post from Fatal) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. There's a thing called "tiny gains" where each time you do a lift you just add one pound to it (they have all of these micro weights for the bar). Anyway, apparently the difference is so tiny that you never feel it, and you increase your max by a ton over time. Congrats on the heavier weight, and pushing through the less good Monday! 3. I do a mixed grip, so I put my left (dominant) hand palm down on the bar, and my right hand Palm up. Does that make sense? Play with it both ways. You can also get straps apparently, but I haven't used those before. To build up your grip you can buy those hand squeezey things, a big bucket of rice, or do farmers walks where you carry two super heavy Dumbbells/kettle bells for as long as you can while walking. Grats on the better week this week! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. https://vimeo.com/140143795 Got my legs straight before I was all the way up, but it went up! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Two days down! Wooooo! How's everyone's week so far? I did a pushup! Woot!
  6. Stayed at school yesterday until 6:30. Probably going to count that as my one late night, but we'll see. Was saved on lunches by my teaching partner who I'm paying back a salad. Whoops. Still counting it... =) Went to the gym today and deadlifted 175! Wooo! Tried to pull 185 and the bar did not even slightly get off the ground. It was excellent. In the video I don't even look like I'm moving. I think I freaked myself out. It was funny because there were two *maybe* high school freshman doing squats next to me with 15 lb dumbbells. To each their own, and hooray for them being fit and everything. But it was cool to be outlifting dudes (even if they were basically children, lol). Also did 15 unbroken double unders! I only did 1 with my old rope last week, but I got a legit rope and it made all the difference. I did 10 several times, then went up to 12, then went up to 15 and called it good. AND I DID A PUSHUP! I can't really call it 2 pushups because I didn't get the courage up to try two in a row until after I had spent all my pushup power, but I did two really deep ones, and one halfway with only a little bit of hip wobbliness in the middle. Super cool. I was so excited that I went and did a Week 3 run on zombie 5k. Which I've been doing since...July? But slow and steady wins the race, I definitely ran way more than I walked and I wasn't all that spent at the end. Glad to be back and challenging myself when my schedule is what it is for the normal part of the year. Thinking that my next challenge might be to wake up workout. Not getting home until 9 after work and gym is kinda killer.
  7. Hehe no parkour for me either. Even just walking around is a problem. I always have bruises on my hips/legs from banging into things. Beer fest was fun. There were no healthy choices made, but that's okay with me, I did really well the rest of the week, and made a conscious choice. Terrible choice though: choosing to wear a dress and then riding a ride that went upside down. At least I was in a cage so no one could see! [emoji15] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. That's SO cool! I want to get out and do more outside stuff. I am going to drink the beers at Oktoberfest tonight. That counts as outdoors right? No great art, but lots of great people watching! =)
  9. How is everyone's first week going? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. Hey, looks like your challenge is set up well! I need to look at stronglifts 5x5. I have been doing some weightlifting based on my tiny amount of crossfit background, but I don't have a great system worked out. How's week 1 gone so far? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Hey, I noticed that you were trying to do proper push-ups as a maybe kinda goal. One way to train into a proper push-up is to start by leaning against a wall. Then do a table. Then a chair. Then a stool. Slowly work your way to where you are closer and closer to horizontal and you'll get it in no time. I do this at the gym with the step class steps, I just stack them up and take away a step every few workouts. It lets you develop the right muscles way more efficiently than knee push-ups. 12. I'm turning 30 soon too! And I'm from Texas! Def hot as balls, we had that cool spell a few weeks ago and I thought that it was finally going to be over, but nope. Still hot. What are Commies in the fun house? I weigh myself every once in awhile out of curiosity, not really for tracking. Last challenge I tried doing a weight loss goal as my big goal, but it's hard to just...make that happen. I can control going to the gym and eating well and all of that but weight has always been a mystery to me. It is what it is. Seems like you're doing well on your challenge so far, keep it up! 13. Sweet! Welcome to the group! I like all of those things too. Well...like is a strong word when it comes to running. Trying to get there... I have a hard time making through Pilates without giggling because once I took a friend who has terrible posture and they told us to make a brick wall and he was sitting all slouchy and the teacher came over to ask him to sit up straight. He said "I am!". [emoji12] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. https://vimeo.com/139753492 I gracefully recovered from my attempt at 175 lol. backed off to 165 and it was much better! Also did burpees (15 in 1 minute), jump rope (could only get a single double under so I came home and bought a better rope on Amazon, mine was twisting), and row (500km in 2:24). All of that puts me solidly in beginner land, but I'll take it! It's nice to have numbers, and 165 is growth from my last max attempt. Finished the week off with every lunch brought to school and every breakfast except today brought. Today I woke up at 7:15 and was standing in a meeting at my school at 7:25. I ate the chickfila biscuits and fruit that were provided for me. This weekend is Oktoberfest and balloon fest and grapefest (wines) near me, so I'm just going to try to "better choice" my way through it. Happy weekend! I think I'll hit the gym again in a little bit. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Alright, so still no spreadsheet, but that's on the agenda for after the gym tonight! Quick update: Monday: left school on time (check!) Brought my lunch (check!) did not do the exercises cause I was up at the crack of dawn getting a test ready for the kids. Tuesday: Stayed at school late (no check), but I put in one late night a week for the challenge because that's just going to happen. Ran myself ragged though, worked basically 14-15 hours straight. It was craziness. Came home way too tired to workout or do anything. Wednesday: Another 14 hour day at school because of working a volleyball game (cashmonaaayyywootwoot). But late night. I am exhausted. I was really proud of myself though, I brought my lunch to school, and after school I ate an apple (I tried to put sunflower butter on it, but that stuff was SERIOUSLY TERRIBLE). So then one of the teachers had candy in his room and I popped a handful of skittles in my mouth before I really thought about it. I also grabbed two fun-sized candy bars since I knew I wouldn't get to eat dinner. But guess what? I didn't eat them. I tried to give them to every person I could, and I still didn't eat them. I left them in the teacher's lounge after carrying them around for four hours and even having them on the table in front of me at one point. So. It was a win. I think this is why I need to not include super strict diet goals right now (i.e. paleo). It is a SERIOUS feat of accomplishment to pass up on two tiny candy bars. Then, when I got back to my classroom I ate a piece of this bark-thins chocolate that I bought because it is dark chocolate, less processed/weird ingredientsy, and still hits my "eating candy" needs. Came home and had a protein shake instead of stopping for fast food on the way home. Today I was stressed out all day, and instead of coming home and putting my pj's on to relax away the stress I came home and put on my workout clothes so I can work off the stress. ALSO. I had food that I had brought for lunch, and I passed up a chance to go get chicken fingers from a really good fast food place. I just ordered an unsweet tea instead and ate my normal lunch. Saved money AND made a healthy choice! In other news, I think that I am not going to call round one a failure in my mind. I am much more thoughtful about my health after completing half of a challenge. Off to the gym I go! =)
