  1. I'm loving Paleo and all the support I've been getting on and offline. The hardest thing has been kicking a 4-year perpetual Coke Zero habit, but I'm feeling gooooooooood! C'mon GreenEyesBright - persevere, overcome and inspire!
  2. I think you did fine. I would carry a small bag of nuts to stave off hunger if that reduction in the meal wasn't enough. Good job!
  3. Finding much more of a rhythm now on my 6th official day. Waking up fresh too which is a nice side-effect. And am going to plan meals for the weekend to avoid getting stuck.
  4. Feeling you guys on the mid-afternoon slumps. I used to have a Coke Zero around now to perk me up, I've had two black coffees today. Black tea seems to help but then I think about flavour/sweetness and miss it so.
  5. Slept a lot better last night, I think the worst of the carb withdrawals are behind me hopefully. Still feeling cranky from time-to-time, but when I'm not cranky I'm feeling happy and clean! Also, fruit seems a shipload sweeter now.
  6. I agree on the 'easier at work' point. I kept my weekend free and soon realised I should have planned and shopped for food a bit better. Enjoying the challenge though and my friends have been supportive which helps heaps.
  7. Had an absolute awful wakeful night's sleep. Got up early and went for a long walk and had an omelette with ham, salmon and onion, with a black coffee. Was fantastic and sorted me out. Been productive since, no headaches today and keeping the fluids up and drinking soda water when I feel like something sweet - seems to trick my mind that it's a Coke Zero
  8. Oh wow, just came across this thread. I've started too and am into Day 5 without carbs and Day 2 of Paleo. I'm experiencing the same stuff that's going on in this thread, headaches and the like. Have just been trying to keep my fluids up and eat as much as I can involving vegetables, nuts and fruit. I hit the scales just to see how I've been doing this New Year, 2 kilos down! Amazing! We can do this
  9. Australians represent! I'm based in Singapore now, but still call Australia home - welcome
  10. Cheers guys! @Waldo, that's some good advice re: the body workout. I'll play it by ear and see how I go next week. My dumbells are pretty light, but I found the push-ups to be the most difficult. I've always had weak arms.
  11. Welcome. The more I read about this community the more it makes sense. Top work on being perma-healthy and improving.
  12. Background I've already introduced myself in the induction thread, but essentially I'm 110kg and want to shift it to the 85-90 mark. What's Stopped Me in the Past Having read a number of the articles on this site, I think I've done a few things (probably a lot more) wrong in the past. Firstly, I've gone too hard too early, and either injured or exhausted myself and have retired to easier things, like whipping people's butts at Fifa on the Xbox360. Secondly, I have paid scant attention to diet, I thought I was eating healthy, but a lot of my diets relied on breads, pastas and rice thinking it was okay for me. I've since read Paleo and am convinced this would be right for me. Lastly, and I think most importantly, I've had little support. I picture exercise as a lone-marine doing push-ups in the rain when really it requires a lot of work to get there first. And you need people to help you do it. I think I'm only realising this now. What I'm Going to Do I'm attacking this on two fronts. First the diet. I'm giving Paleo a go. I'll do it for 30 days. I managed to recruit two of my friends into doing it as well! I created a Google Docs spreadsheet last night for the three of us, and we're going to document what we eat for the next 30 days. Hopefully this will hold us accountable, and the fact we're in this together should make it a bit harder to withdraw/give up. Secondly, exercise. I walk to work (20mins there, 20mins back) but that's obviously not much. I did my first Beginner Body Weight Workout (thanks Spauracchio for the link) this morning. I managed two circuits. I'll take two days rest and then resume. My Achille's Heel has always been doing too much too early, and so I'm tentatively looking at an exercise program like this: Monday: Body Weight workout Tuesday: Light run Wednesday: Body Weight workout Thursday: Light run or rest day Friday: Body Weight workout Saturday: Light run or rest day Sunday: Rest day I don't want to go too hard, but I also personally need to be active most days or fall off the wagon with a "I'll do it tomorrow" mentality. Obviously this will adapt over time but this is how I'm looking to get started. Challenges There are a few things that might get in the way, these include: Alcohol - I used to be a heavy drinker, and this is probably THE hardest thing to avoid Travel - I travel a bit for work, and this could be utilised as an excuse, hence why I want to avoid relying on a gym Support - I've lacked this in the past, hopefully joining NF and getting my friends on board for Paleo will help A Wedding - one of my best friend's gets married in Australia during the initial 30 days and I'm going, the whole trip to Australia has the chance to blow me up if I'm not careful. Lastly, I've also read about doing things gradually versus dramatic change. Gradually has more potential to succeed, but dramatic change can reap the biggest rewards. Opting to do this with such a bullish approach could be seen as something that's not an optimal approach, I just have to do it this way. I don't do things in halves. This is it This is it. I can't keep being an overweight person. It sucks. The time is now and I'm going to pull it off this time. I'm posting here to be accountable, and to also get your advice. It's all well and good to blaze in with a program in a show of bravado, it's another thing sticking to it. Any tips you have on sticking, maintaining or altering this approach are welcomed. I checked the scales last night and since giving up carbs for the New Year I'd dropped a kg. I had trouble getting to sleep I was so excited. I will do this. tl;dr - Let's kick ass and chew bubble gum, the time is now.
  13. Hey Spauracchio, I'm intrigued, but a search on NF didn't turn up much - do you have any links?
  14. I think I looked into this one when I was assessing non-gym workouts, is there a guide you recommend? I found some of them to be pretty hardcore, when what I would be after is a beginner's guide to convict conditioning!
  15. Oh wow, thanks for the welcomes guys! @verin: I'm a lover of SC and SC:BW - never got into the new one because I didn't have the specs.
