So... I have a broken foot and thus am somewhat limited. Am I likely to be any use in this mini or should I sit this one out?

Caution: Incoming weebling
Soooo because I'm a fool, I have been off some of my meds for the last week and a half. And they're kinda important ones. Soooooo not having them isn't ideal. It makes me somewhat wobbly and unstable and generally, well, somewhat more mental than normal.
I have been fighting with a code ALL. WEEK.
Seriously. I code in Perl (very badly) and it is literally half code and half commented out bits that I tried and didn't work.
I don't like asking for help. I'm getting better, but I'm still not great, and without my meds I'm worse. This afternoon I finally got myself to ask someone for help, unfortunately the two guys in my section of the office, whilst very willing to help, don't use Perl. But they came up with a couple of ideas.
Anyway, we all went down to coffee, and I was bemoaning my coding to all and sundry. There's a guy who is AMAZING at coding (and I have something of a crush on and I think there has been flirting but he apparently has a girlfriend but he hasn't mentioned her AT ALL even in the several hours we've spent hanging out just the two of us outside work and this is irrelevant to the actual story of today but adds to my general confusion of it all), but I know that he is super super busy right now and specifically wasn't going to ask him because he has a million and one things to do. So he arrives at coffee a few minutes after the rest of us, and the first thing one of the guys says to him is "do you use Perl?".
"I do! Why?"
"Fiona's having some problems...."
Soooooooo. He asks what's going on. I try to explain (difficult without a bit of paper because there's files and columns all over the shop). I fail (shocker!). He suggests he just has a look at my code and gives me a hand from there. I'm pretty sure it's a five minute job where he'll look at my code and go "well no wonder this isn't working, why have you done x?".
He turns up at my desk a little before half 4. He peers at my code. I attempt to explain.
He starts a new code. (Always a good sign)
We realise he was aiming for something different to what I was aiming for. Adjustments are made.
Tests are run. Weird results pop up.
We try again. And again. And again.
Five o'clock hits and my friend (who is lovely and driving my poor broken self to and from work) arrives at my desk to go home. I offer to get myself home so she doesn't have to hang around.
Lovely Coding Guy (Steve. His name is Steve. That is easier) says it's ok and we can sort it out tomorrow. I head home, and he goes back to his desk to finish editing a paper his former supervisor sent him (at 5am today. With a deadline of tomorrow).
So I basically spent that entire half hour sitting feeling stupid (because I really should be able to do this myself), and embarrassed (see previous point), and guilty (because when I said yes to his offer of help I thought it would be a five minute job and not taking up the entire rest of his day AND tomorrow morning). And just generally crap about it. I almost burst into tears several times because of the combination of the above emotions.
Just. Urgh. I specifically didn't ask him because I KNEW it would end up with something like the above. I wasn't going to turn him down because he is so so so good at it, but I hate this mass of ~feelings~ and overthinking everything and assuming he must now be super pissed off with me because reasons.
I'll take him chocolate tomorrow. But still.
Though that does lead into the language of love thing because when it comes to me showing affection for someone I tend to do it by getting them stuff (not big things, just wee bits and bobs). However based on that quiz I am far and away quality time. 2nd goes jointly to words of affirmation and gifts, fourth to physical touch, and acts of service is at the bottom (which makes sense tbh given how guilty I feel about people doing things for me hahaha).
On the plus side...if he is struggling with this code then at least it isn't just me being stupid and useless. And if we can get it to work then it will speed up other stuff massively.

Thanks everyone! I've got to a point where I move around the flat without crutches OR moonboot , and can walk up to a few hundred metres with just one crutch (and the boot). In fact, I only really need two crutches for long distances and stairs XD
In terms of the actual challenge, so far zero week has been a bit of a non-starter. Diet is poor, exercise is poor.... Can we blame it on me being off my meds? Let's blame it on me being off my meds...
And, as always, tomorrow is a new day!

Hahaha usually when people find out about the rats it goes the other way...
Getting them was the first thing I did when I got my PhD and knew I was going to be living in my own flat for four years. I mean I started with two but they're a bit like Pringles really XD

I my rats. Even if they are all completely batshit! I'm actually in three rat clubs.....the Scottish Rat Club, the North of England Rat Society and the National Fancy Rat Society. Because you can never have too many rat clubs!
There's not much motion involved in a lot of it really, I mainly focus on static trapeze and at the beginner level the only motion is what you are doing!
Computational genetics. Which is as exciting as it sounds really. Progress is not being helped by the fact I'm off one of my meds atm because I need to go pick up my prescription but I feel bad enough that my friend is already driving me to and from work so don't want to ask her to detour to the doctor as well :/

Hello! I'm Fiona from Scotland and this has popped up at a perfect time for me!
I'm a final year PhD student living alone with my nine pet rats (I know, I sound cooler by the minute!). My main hobby is aerial circus but I'm grounded just now with a broken foot (so expect much whining about that....). I'm also heavily involved in the Scottish Rat Club and read a lot.
Fitness wise this challenge I'm mostly focussing on maintenance while my foot heals
Non-fitness is basically making PhD progress! It's not down in my challenge thread, but it's the big'un.

How to Train Your Dragon theeeeeemeee!
So thanks to me being an idiot, I managed to break my foot last week. No really, it was ridiculous. I did a cool trick on a hoop, got off, stepped off the crash mat (onto the beautiful brand new totally smooth and flat dance floor) aaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnd collapsed.
All I know is that I was standing then I wasn't. Apparently it looked like my right ankle buckled and I went down. Which somehow ended up with a spiral fracture of the fifth metatarsal of my left foot.
We'll gloss over the fact that I got back on the hoop and walked around on it for a bit.... And wasn't going to get it checked until a physio friend looked at the ankle and said it might be fractured. Honestly, none of us were concerned about the foot AT ALL. Ooooooops...
Guess we were all a bit wrong there
They reckon it'll be about six weeks to be fully healed, which falls on the end of this challenge. So, an entire challenge dedicated to the healing process, without losing too much fitness in the process.
Hiccup - foot and ankle rehab
Obviously this is the biggest focus. Not only did I break my left foot, I sprained my right ankle in the process *cries* I've also been warned that it's common for people to lose both mobility and strength in the ankle of the broken foot. The last thing I need is more ankle problems so I'm going for an ankle rehab programme (subject to change as the challenge progresses and depending on how they're doing).
15 minutes per day of ankle mobility work (both sides)
- Pointing and flexing
- Ankle circles
- Alphabet writing with foot
Photographs twice a week of pointing and flexing progress (so that when I'm feeling discouraged I can look back and see improvements)
Make physio appointment specifically for ankles (probably in a couple of weeks time)
Once weight bearing, ankle strengthening
- One leg balances
- Calf raises
Astrid - maintaining fitness
Admittedly this is trickier to do since I can't, y'know, bear weight properly. But a viking doesn't let that stop them!
Five days per week
- 10 pull ups

Core workout
- 10 pushups (on knees)
- 1 minute plank (on knees)
- 1 minute arch
- 1 minute dish
- 10 v-sits
- 10 knee to elbow
- 20 scissors
- 20 lying leg raises
- 20 minutes + stretching (I need to try stuff out to see what I can actually do then create my routine)
Cardio????
This is going to be totally dependent on how healing is going. I'm hoping that in a few weeks I'll be able to weight bear enough that I can go swimming (hobbling in and out of the pool). Though this is also dependent on my friends since I'm currently taking advantage of their kindness for things like getting to work...
Toothless - diet
Ugh this is a difficult one since I am currently relying on microwave meals but let's give it a go....
Daily calorie tracking
- Starting by aiming for 2000 per day and can adjust that depending on whether I'm gaining/losing.
Daily supplements (I know, I know, but I'm covering all my bases while I'm healing)
- Multivitamin
- Calcium and Vitamin D
2+ portions of fruit and veg per day (fresh stuff is a bugger right now because I'm struggling getting to supermarkets)
Maximum one take away per week

Another vote for Shock Absorbers! I'm an E and have a friend who is bigger than that and we can trampoline in them (which makes running look like taking a nap boob wise!).

I was a bit of a wally this weekend and managed to break my left foot at the same time as spraining my right ankle I'm usually an aerialist, and this means I'm grounded until the foot heals (at least six weeks *sobs*). I figure I have two options - spend six weeks moping around and getting fatter OR work on my core/upper body strength! Obviously as part of the rebellion, the second one is the option to go for (ok, so I might be spending a few days moping around first...)!
So, bodyweight exercises that don't involve ANY pressure on my feet. Once the ankle heals I could theoretically do stuff with that leg but I'd rather not end up too one sided.
Currently I have
- Pull ups
- Push ups and planks on knees
- Dish
- Arch
- Ab exercises from dish (v-sits, bicycles, knee to elbow etc)
Any other ideas? I'd rather stick with bodyweight if I can because I don't have any weights at home and getting to a gym is next to impossible just now!

So because I'm an idiot, I managed to break my foot at the weekend. Other than the obvious "good balanced diet", what's important for healing bones quickly and efficiently?
Admittedly I'm pretty much stuck with microwave meals atm because I live alone and can't stand up long enough to actually cook, let alone wash up afterwards, but suggestions of things that don't require much (or any...) preparation or things that are specifically good for bone healing would be amazing!

I've read them all multiple times! I love the Death books, and the Witches books. I like to start people out on Hogfather since it doesn't require prior knowledge of any of the characters.

What does an athlete look like? I don't know...I used to think of the traditional high level athlete look (think Olympic competitors) but that just doesn't cover it. Plus I've spent so much time around circus people now that I know "fit" comes in a huge range of shapes and sizes.
I also don't subscribe to the idea that to be an athlete you have to compete. The vast majority of circus people will never compete (because that's just not the way it works) but I wouldn't say that they are anything other than athletes. Likewise, I would define ballet dancers as athletes. I guess for me an athlete is somebody who actively trains in a physical pursuit with goals in mind - be that running, weightlifting, martial arts, circus, dance, parkour...... The goals don't have to be anything spectacular, but the drive to continually improve is.

Counting both seperately for this minichallenge would just make getting to the goal reps easier. We don't want that.

His advice about holding a 5kg weight out in front of you for one-legged squats (pistols) is what got me to figure out how to do them without hurting my knees. I was like, "Holy crap! All I need to do is shift my center of gravity forward?!" Once I got the hang of it, all I needed to do was lean further forward and I didn't need the weight.
I love how many progressions there are between deep squat (no problem) and pistol squats (which hahahaha nope). I'm not generally a squat sort (because knees) but there's so many options here even my grumpy knees can't complain
