  1. My boyfriend is a great teacher - he's been playing for 9 years now and kicks ass! But to not bother him too much and to get myself familiar with the basics I will stick to Justin for now. But thanks for the ideas!
  2. I have to say, I hardly have any muscle aches today! So it's looking good Thanks for all of your advice, I'll take it to heart!
  3. I did not intend to do parkour or anything of the like but it does look awesome. I might try that in due time GL with your guitar things, hope Justin can explain you some cool things you didn't know before!
  4. Wow awesome! I've watched some videos about classical guitar and it's wayyyy different than 'normal' guitar! Very cool though I've heard that age can make a good guitar sound even better, so don't feel bad about owning a 30 y/o guitar! The well kept old guitars in my local guitar store are all worth a bunch of money, haha, so don't think it's inferior just because it's old I'd love to learn some game music too, but I feel like I should first learn the basics before trying anything else, haha. You should look up Justin Guitar (google), he has a LOT of lessons online and it makes learning guitar very fun and easy. He also has lots of videos on how to play songs and best of all: it's all free! You can choose to donate or buy some of his merch but it's not necessary. He's the best Yes exactly, I love seeing how I will progress through time and how each exercise gets easier. I'm really looking forward to my first set of proper push ups too, instead of the girly push ups I have to do now
  5. Thanks for the bunch of replies everyone! I unfortunately saw this a bit too late, haha. I asked some people in the chat to answer my question and they said to just go ahead with my training, but adjust a bit and perhaps do less squats or make them easier or omit them at all if they're still too painful. So I actually did just that, I did the warm-up and actually repeated the circuit three times, but without the dumbell rows again (a backpack is actually a good idea!) and I assisted myself with the squats and lunges by holding on to things so my arms did some work as well. So I cheated! ~tgm~ 'll see how sore I am tomorrow and I will follow up your guys' great advice on waiting two days before doing the workout again when sore. Doing just the warm-up on sore days and making the warm-up easier sounds like a great idea, as I do think the current warm-up is a bit too 'much' for me for just a warm-up. Being a newb sucks I already walk at least 45 mins every day, as I have a dog My bf walks him once a day and I walk him twice a day, usually one longer round of at least 30 mins and one shorter round of 10 - 15 minutes.
  6. Hey Ulfgard, fun to see a fellow fur here! I'm sure I'm going to love it here! I get a bit confused navigating the forum but I think that'll get better in time, haha. So much to read! I certainly plan to participate in the next challenge, although I am not sure what my goal for that challenge should be. I'll see what I can come up with Thanks for the warm welcome! Hey Aardvark! (love aardvarks btw, they're so cute!) So far I'm still doing the beginner course from Justin Guitar (not sure if you've heard of him?) but I plan to play rock/metal/some pop. What about you? What guitar do you have? And exactly, I love the fact that I can do the body weight workout just about anywhere and that I don't have to drag my butt to an (expensive) gym. Also, the gym is quite far away from where I live since I live in the middle of nowhere, for Dutch standards! I found the subforum for body weight training and asked my question there Good idea actually, to make the 6 week challenge a diet-related one! I think I'll do that, thanks!
  7. Hey everyone, Two days ago, I did my first beginner bodyweight routine. I didn't exercise in quite some time, and apparently it really got to me! Would like some tips on how to go on from here. What I did: Warm-up: 30 sec jump rope 20 jumping jacks 10 squats 5 lunges (per leg) 5 wall push ups Actual workout: 20 squats 10 push ups (on the knees) 20 walking lunges 15 sec plank 30 jumping jacks I did not have a weight to do the dumbell rows at that moment and I could only complete the circuit once. I was dead after that! My legs/knees already felt weak after the 10 squats from the warm up, doingthe actual 20 squats of the workout was murder, haha! So now we're two days further (it's morning now) and I was so stiff in the legs yesterday and today. Even walking hurts a bit and going up/down the stairs is terrible, haha! Once I'm walking for a few minutes, it's fine, but I still feel the work out from two days ago My question is: Should I do the workout today or wait until I no longer feel pain in my legs? I don't want to sound like a wuss and give up after my first try, haha, but I also don't want to do any damage to my body. Maybe I can replace most of the squats with more jumping jacks or something, because it's mainly my upper-leg-muscles that hurt. Looking forward to your advice! Dog
  8. Woof to all you great people from the Rebellion! I'm so happy I found this website, I have tried getting healthy in the past, but I had so little in common with the people who usually frequent fora on health/sports sites. So here's to hoping we all will get along better, because I love nerding things up! Okay, so more about the person behind the name. I'm a 22 year old girl (pretty old for a dog, huh?), I love gaming (RPGs and point and click games all the way!), boardgames, watching movies and series and drawing. I'm also learning how to play guitar. I'm a total Potterhead and The Elder Scrolls geek. I study biomedical sciences (basically: research on human diseases), already have a bachelor's and I'm busy in the second and final year of my master's now. I'm totally terrified of what the future has in store for me, as I have no clue if I'll be happy as a crazy scientist. But time will tell! As said before, I've tried to adopt a healthier lifestyle in the past, but it's been difficult. My boyfriend and I have been living together for 4 years and we both love eating and being lazy. Mainly unhealthy stuff, haha! French fries, hamburgers, spare ribs, nomnom, you name it! I've tried to eat healthier but when he has a big pile of meat on his plate and I only have some salad and a small piece of meat I get envious and fall back into my old habits. I've followed 2 5K running programs before (a Belgian one and Zombies, Run 5K training) but I quit right before making it to 5K due to losing interest in it. I'm not terribly overweight, I am usually around 136 lbs, but I would like to feel better in my own skin and feel proud when looking in the mirror and not have stuff flubber around I want to get a bit 'tighter' so to say and lose some weight around the typical girl areas (thighs, butt, belly) as well as getting a bit stronger! 120 lbs is my 'goal' weight, but if I look fit and toned while weighing a bit more than that, that's completely fine. I am not sure which path to take, but so far I'm leaning towards Assassin because 1. I love sneaky characters in games and 2. I am interested in body weight exercises! I also hope to find some accountabilibuddies here, but I see there's a special topic for that. I also have some questions about the beginner body workout, but I think I should ask them somewhere else? Love you all! Dog
