  1. I'm pretty sure fried in butter is okay by paleo terms. haha! Just hope its not canola oil or something. Yeah, our family does a nontraditional American Thanksgiving too. We do have mashed potatoes, but usually with steak or something. Have a great week!
  2. I'd love to hear answers to this too Ellis! so far I've been using them as a breather and working in progressing my modified exercises.
  3. WEEK 4 RECAP: Some frustrations last week and generally feeling tired and sore. Feeling better this week so far, perhaps the weekend rest was what I needed. General activity: Not having any problems filling the rings, but walking was a bit uncomfortable this weekend. Low back is bugging me. I've adjusted my warmup to exclude any bendy toe-touchy things for now and felt a little better so far. I am blessed with a husband who is a physical therapist, so some massage and mobilizations are in order this week. Veggies: Still doing quite well with the veggies. I have been having green smoothies each morning and have been trying to buy more veggie related snacks, baby carrots and snap peas. Also pre-made some NomNomPaleo prosciutto wrapped spinach frittatas for lunches this week, so hey! I'm probably rocking out 6 servings of veggies these days. Never thought that'd happen! Hoping I can tolerate the eggs this week. Eggs and I have a rocky history. Sometimes they really upset my system! Workouts: I've been a bit wimpy pants when it comes to the pushups. I've been doing them on a bench and tried some knee pushups today for one set. Boy, I've got some wimpy ole arms. Other: Did my first meditation class via Headspace this morning. I think it went quite well.
  4. Week 4 / Days 27/28: Did fine over the weekend with activity rings and veggies. No workouts. Q1: +1 day (+1 bonus day) Q2: +2 days Week 5 / Day 29: Activity ring filled this morning and veggies drank for breakfast, workout A done. Moved to knee pushups for one set today, remaining two sets on incline. Adjusted warm-up to exclude some of the bendy stuff as I think its been aggravating my back a bit. Much better today so far. 5. Not fall here in the valley yet (still a couple of weeks away) and the mountain trees are all done... So, here's a shot from last fall. It still gets me in the spirit. This is the park I walk in daily. SO beautiful in fall.
  6. Non-standard glassware for the win! Haha. Sounds like a wonderful Thanksgiving! I love fall hiking and I bet it was beautiful. So much better to be a little full vs. whoa I overate. I've always struggled with that, but I've been trying to eat slower and I do think it's helped me reduce my portions some at dinner. My husband cooks dinners and is a really great cook! So hard sometimes!
  7. Woohoo! Yay for wearing the underpants! Sounds like your Thanksgiving was fun! I downloaded the Headspace app and am going to try it tomorrow once my family is off to work and school. Finding 10 minutes of undisturbed time is a bit of a challenge. So I will keep you posted... I think it is a good sign we are thinking about the next challenge already! I really feel like these challenge goals will "stick".
  8. Enjoy your walk. My mother in law loves the coloring books. I just busted out some knitting. Need a new hat!
  9. You are cranking out those steps girl! Keep it up!
  10. Ugh, I'm sorry you're sick. That stinks! Hang in there! You'll feel better soon enough. Kudos to you for keeping up with the tracking. I just couldn't hack it. I sure hope you are feeling better quick. Those employers didn't know what evil they were unleashing with that darned test! Love your plan of short fresh air walks and some healing mind/body work. Did you get anything fun at the craft store?
  11. I've definitely got Ranger-Brain! My husband is getting sick of the "maybe I should try... " I'm definitely trying to stay on the baby-step path. I'm beating the impatience back for now and thankfully I'm already noticing that even the baby steps have me feeling better already. I'm definitely planning on heading over to the Ranger forums for my next challenge! Thanks for stopping by and visiting Rurik! Rangers are so great! Love the support here! Oh vestibular is SO hard. I worked in physical therapy "before kids" and have some vestibular experience. It's definitely not something I would handle very well. The few times I've had some transient vertigo, it was VERY unpleasant. I try hard not to make my thyroid stuff a "thing", ya know... So much so that I think I discount the reality of it sometimes and over-do. Ah, I'm always learning! Thankfully, my body is pretty good at reminding me. Ha!
  12. Hope you're having a great Thanksgiving Eureka!!
  13. Thanks for the cheers friends! I'm going to just update on workout days from here on out. Challenge 1 and 2 appear to be going swimmingly at this point with little resistance. I'm going to axe my weight goal because it frustrates me and isn't really my main goal any more. Isn't amazing how your mindset can change with knowledge? Thanks for the article links Eureka. It was definitely what I needed to hear. The 15th is the one-month mark and I will do measurements and pics again then. Maybe I'll even be brave and post them here or on the battle log. Already thinking of goals for challenge 2... One will be to incorporate some meditation. I battle autoimmune disease (Graves) and after many experiences over the years, I believe I am very stress-sensitive and have adrenal issues. It's not uncommon for long-term thyroid issues. I've modified my life/environment (unintentionally and intentionally) to reduce stressors, sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse. Even though I was trying to take baby steps, my over-enthusiastic underpants-collecting self took on a bit too much. Too much for me is probably not much for some folks, but starting bodyweight workouts and changing my diet was enough to trigger some strong stress reactions. I noticed myself being snappy with the family and a bit short-tempered. I've started back on some adrenal support until my body gets used to the new routine. Sometimes it's really hard to think of yourself as "weak" and unable to cope with a few simple healthy changes to your diet and exercise, but I need to get real and really baby step this thing. Impatience is a bitch. Ok, enough whinging. Sticking to the workouts and the veggies. Going to increase my walking (such good therapy) back to daily, even workout days.
  14. Day 1115 (okay, so it's 26)... activity ring not filled. I forgot to turn on tracking when I went for my walk, so technically its not filled, but I have bonus days to use anyway, so...veggies done. Watched the husband make my smoothie this morning and realized he's been putting double the peanut butter in all week. sigh... saboteur!workout. Bodyweight workout B today and it's making up for the relative ease of workout A. This will not be my favorite workout.Enthusiasm waining. I'm grateful it's the weekend and I hope the rest will help my poor attitude. I said I wasn't going to weigh myself, but I did anyway, thinking surely since I've worked so hard and I could use the push to continue... and still the exact same as end of week 1. I certainly feel like I'm working hard and not overeating. Sigh...
  15. I'm still hanging in there. Bodyweight workout B kicked me in the pants good this morning. Definitely not feeling as enthusiastic as I was in weeks 1-3. Hopefully the weekend will give me some attitude improvement. haha. Sticking to it though and proud of it.
  16. I use my TRX for the inverted rows. So adaptable that way and it's nice, especially as a beginner, to use a comfortable hand position. Keep up the great work!!
  17. Flint! Congrats! I'm so glad to hear you are feeling a bit better! I totally hear you on spending time with people you don't know. I find it exhausting. As far as weighing in, I am not weighing myself until the end of the challenge. I find it doesn't provide any sort of motivation for me and it usually just makes me grouchy and feeling like my efforts are futile.
  18. Day 25: activity ring filled veggies eaten workout rest day Feeling okay, still a bit tired, but it may be the change of seasons. I hate waking up in the dark. Boo!
  19. Thank you so much! I'm definitely checking out these websites. I've tried meditation before, but usually just end up feeling silly, but I do think I could use a little "inside" work for the next challenge. Too funny about the first anniversary! My husband and I were supposed to get a nice honeymoon room at the resort where we got married and they forgot to book it, so we ended up spending our wedding night on a sleeper sofa. haha!
  20. Woohoo! I'm a bit jealous of your barbell prowess! Nice work on the workouts! Have you always been a meditator? or is this something new you are trying? I'm thinking I need to work that into my next challenge, so I'm all ears for any advice.
  21. Day 24, activity ring filled veggies eaten workout done, Bodyweight Brigade level 1 A workout (felt pretty good, easier than the recruit!) Feeling very sore and tired this week and am a little concerned. I have history with adrenal issues and my body can over-react to stressors. I'm going to take it slow with progressing the workout. I'm grateful that the info says to do this workout for 2-3 weeks before moving on. It's so hard to know what is normal body protest and what I should be concerned about. Watchful waiting, and I'm ordering some adrenal support supplements. They usually help. Felt much better after today's workout than Monday's though, so yay!
  22. Day 23, my friends, activity ring filled veggies eaten workout rest day New username, other than that, not much going on. I did start up a battle log, but I think I'm just going to post weekly updates there. I do like doing a daily update (this is the only place I'm tracking my progress), but I don't need double the work. I'll probably use it more for future challenges though. I need to add a link to my signature.
  23. Inverted rows are my favorites. What are you using to do them? I use my TRX and basically whichever way makes your body closer to horizontal is harder. So I'm guessing bar lower? Congrats on level 1!
  24. Oh good! I was a little afraid I'd lose all my friends!! Congrats on the level 1 badassery to you as well!
