  1. Oh plyometrics. As Tony says (regarding the Ab Ripper) "I love it. And I hate it." Into phase 2 now, and this week was the first time I completed the warmup without taking a small break. It's killer, but I usually feel pretty awesome afterwards
  2. Well I got my week in and I couldn't be happier. I used daily burn to track everything I ate. I thought it would be a little more annoying than what it actually was. I think it helped that for the Rebel Strength Guide contest I tracked everything, I just wrote it down instead of using daily burn. So, if nothing else it was interesting to see just how much I consume every day. Saturday was high, but other than that I'm quite proud of the rest. A few of the highlights: sitting in a card load of people at a McD's drive through and not ordering anything, and not even accepting an offer of just one fry from my wife Going through Tim Horton's and getting a sandwhich, no coffe or iced cap, and not eating Timbits that everyone else had No potatoes for well over a week. that one is seriously killer. I had way more veggies this week than I've ever had, but it actually did the job quite well. It helps that my wife started Weight Watchers so she's been on board with eating a ton of veggies I noticed that I had more energy for my workouts this week as well. And one night we did go out and I had wings and onion rings, and not only did I feel like crap for the rest of the evening, but I was also super tired. So gonna have to try to remember that feeling so I can avoid eating that crap again.
  3. That is amazing. My max on overhead press is only about 90, so I'm a little blown away that you're doing 70 with a prosthetic. Excellent work!
  4. I can't tell you how many people I've recommended follow him. Damn he's funny! I love all the Robin quips
  5. I thought your hiatus was over I don't promise I'll keep track of my food on the weekend. Heading home to the fam, and it's difficult at best to eat well there. I will do what I can. Holding strong for the week though.
  6. haha. Sure thing. I had strawberry shortcake last night so now I get to not count that EDIT: Do you use Daily Burn? I'm gonna keep track of my food intake in a text file and update it there when I get a chance. Today's breakfast is added. 2nd EDIT: Guess I should mention that if you go Find Motivator just do a search for Robzilla1983 and surprise surprise that's me. Not sure if it'll let you follow my food in take or what, but if you use it anyway, I'm there
  7. I actually ordered 2 pairs off ebay that are certainly knock offs, but I don't mind. The stitching is sub-par (couple of minor holes in one pair, and my other pair the tongue came loose but I just wrapped the laces in around the tongue loop thing on top so it stays in place). Once I hit my goal weight, and hold it for 4 weeks, I'm gonna buy a real pair, but I still love the two I picked up and minus the stitch job I think you'd be hard pressed to find a significant difference
  8. I'm right there with ya man. I got in some bad eating habits over easter and never really dropped them like I had hoped. Just did groceries today though and it's considerably better looking now. My struggle is more with diet than workout, but a struggle's a struggle. Good luck. Tell ya what? Update in a week to say how you did and I'll update as well. We'll see how we both do
  9. iFitness and Run Keeper FTW. iFitness is great because you can program your workouts in (including creating custom exercises if something isn't listed). Then when you're in the middle of the workout it's super simple and quick to just choose your workout, exercise, then weight and reps. I don't run much, but when I do, I use Run Keeper. Also fun for biking, and whatever else. It's more of a personal interest to see how far/fast I went, than something I use to increase intensity of a workout (since I don't actually run or bike often)
  10. I feel I have a large shoe collection for being a man, and not really caring about shoes. But I've got a nice pair of work shoes, old ones I slip on for taking the dog out, VFF bikilas I wear outdoors, VFF KSOs I wear inside/gym (they're both knockoffs I got off eBay, but I figure they do the trick), and a pair of sneakers I sometimes wear depending on my workout. My gym clothes are getting out of hand. I've got about a dozen shirts now. I think I'll probably clean those out soon and get rid of some...
  11. Holy crap! I think I just messed myself. 60% through Storm of Swords now, and shit hit the fan. Damn George R. R. Martin really hates all of the characters in this series. Anytime one of them comes close to happiness, bam! Dead. I'm a little freaking out ...
  12. I actually just started it and am really enjoying it. Just finished week 2 of Phase 1. The first week through I took it easy (and didn't record anything), just because I heard it was tough and didn't want to kill myself. This week I've been focusing on trying to find the right weights and it's been tougher (I was more sore today that I remember being in probably a year). Aside from the annoying trainer I rather like it though.
  13. So jealous. my wife and I have a line of credit that we've been trying for three years to get paid off. It's getting better and better every year, and hopefully this fall will do the trick. I'd like to think we'll start saving money once we pay that off
  14. This thread is full of win. Not much new to add, but my personal favourite was this group of middle-aged guys that came in all of the time. They'd throw on the weight belts, hit the smith machine, load up the weight, and go down all of six inches. Meanwhile I used the power rack next to them, used about 100 pounds less than they did (but still at my body weight), and did a proper squat. I always felt like I was better Personal trainers hogging machines (or kicking you off machines) really irked me; especially since the gym I went to had a room specifically for people who hire a trainer. Since I didn't hire one I technically couldn't use that room, but no one ever used it. There would always be 2 or 3 people on the go just in the general area, and nobody using the actual room. I always felt like I should just go in and use it, but then I quit the gym and workout from home now instead. Oh, guys wearing toques. Only saw that once or twice, but it surprised me. There's no way I'd workout with a hat on (hell, now that I'm at home I don't often wear a shirt). It was surprising to see someone who went to the gym, but then did so light of a workout that they could wear a toque. Gotta love Canadian winters I guess
  15. Well if it makes you feel better I've had it my whole life and it doesn't slow me down that much I take Advair twice a day, and as long as I do that my breathing is fine. Mind you, when I find I do get out of breath working out, certainly quicker than my wife, but I just take a bit more time off in between sets and focus on slow deep breaths. I actually tend to forget I have asthma now, because it's just always been there, so I don't let it control me. I've been able to run a 5k and 10k (wearing VFFs no less), but I use the term run loosely. It's definitely slow.
  16. That is awesome. I keep thinking about trying a half, and eventually full, marathon. It seems like such a benchmark for judging how in shape you are. In the end though I plain don't like running enough to put myself through it. Good on ya though!
  17. The thumbless grip seemed to do the trick. Still hurt a bit, but not nearly like what it was
  18. Sweet! Another Canadian. I'm on the other coast, but damn if I don't love the west coast. I was in Victoria in the middle of February a few years back. I was literally one of the last planes to leave from the airport out here because of the snow storm. We got 50cm that storm. And another 50cm during the week I was out. I get to Victoria, first day is sunny and 15 degrees. In February! It was amazing. And everything there was complaining that the flowers weren't out yet and it's not the nicest spring they've ever had. I'm not at all jealous that you're out there
  19. Holy cow. Good work! How long did it take to build up to that?
  20. Thanks for the suggestions guys. I'll do a little stretching before/after each set tonight and we'll see if that helps. I use a thumb grip, although there's been a couple of times I thought I might try a thumbless just to see how that feels. I'll give that a run and we'll see how it goes
  21. This just started in the last few weeks for me. What happens is anything where I'm hanging from a bar, as soon as I let go my right fore arm feels like it's on fire. While I'm hanging, or doing the exercises it's fine, it's only when I let go and it hurts like hell for a few seconds. I'm finding that if I release the bar a little slower it helps some. Anyone else experience this or have suggestions on how to make it stop? I don't know if it's a form issue, or maybe I'm just weak and need to build up some strength. I've been doing pullups for a year now (though not very many) so it's super annoying
  22. Not gonna lie, I'm a meat and potatoes kinda guy. I'm just wondering what people use as side dishes with meat, instead of potatoes? I've been really trying to stick with Paleo this week (even managed to have black coffee, gross) but I'm struggling on that. I've been having salads which is mostly spinach, with green and red peppers, onion, and cucumbers. But a) considering my lunch is always left over supper I'm gonna get sick of that real quick. I find even if I'm full right after the meal I'm starving an hour later. Bottom line, I don't think salads are going to cut it; certainly not every day. So, what does everyone else do?
  23. hahah. I actually lol'd at work, and I don't use the lol term lightly That's awesome
  24. My wife and I decided to cancel our gym membership and invest in home. The first thing I put in was a pullup bar. Considering it's hanging just below my router, I think it's pretty much the definition of Nerd Fitness
