  1. Man, this snowstorm really threw me out of whack. I guess snow shoveling counts as exercise, but it meant that my usual two mile walks were out of the question. To top it off, I think I screwed something up in my wrist and trying to do push-ups hurt like hell. I'm getting back on the bodyweight horse tonight, but I still feel crappy about not following through.
  2. It's basically killing a few different birds with one stone. Most of my friends don't really understand my love of pro wrestling, so I want to offer a buy-in. Come on over to my apartment, have a tasty brunch and watch a curated selection of matches that gets at the heart of what makes wrestling amazing. This weekend, I'm showing the rise of Sami Zayn in three matches: Zayn/Cesaro at Arrival, the Fatal 4-Way for the NXT title and Neville/Zayn from R-Evolution. They tell a great underdog story and just so happen to have a bunch of phenomenal wrestling. I'm hoping to do this every month, with different stories, promotions and food for each one. Thanks for taking an interest!
  3. I use Simple Initiative in my games: each side rolls a d8 and takes their actions as a group. It doesn't allow for faster characters to act first, but it greatly simplifies the combat process. And don't be afraid to make things up! True, there are rules for just about every situation codified in the book, but finding the right answer slows things down more often than not. If the system (D&D 5e?) has ability checks or saving throws, you can substitute those for the more specific situational rules.
  4. Everything's going swimmingly! I've been super busy lately planning my tabletop games and a monthly wrestling brunch, so I haven't had a lot of time to post, but I've been updating my signature meters, counting my calories and making decent food. And I'm pretty sure I've lost like 4 or 5 pounds since starting, soooo...
  5. You can also do this with Kindle books that you check out of the library through Overdrive! It's a lovely little trick for frequent audiobookers.
  6. I banged the shit out of my toe on a doorframe over the weekend and thought I had broken it, with how bruised and painful it had gotten. My first response to this was "I hope this doesn't stop me from doing push-ups," which NEVER would have happened a month ago. On the down side, I drank like three beers and ate a bunch of brownies at a Golden Globes party on Sunday, so I haven't maintained a perfect tracking run. I'm going to try extra hard this week to make up for it.
  7. If you just post the YouTube link straight, it will embed: And congrats!
  8. I feel like if we are talking about eventual Epic Quests or whatnot, mine would be "do a single pull-up." As long as I've been alive, I have never been able to do one.
  9. So, I went through my bodyweight exercises yesterday and holy shit, did I want to quit after the second round of pushups. My arm strength is just not there, but I knuckled through and finished the whole second set, then sat down on my couch and just breathed heavy for a few minutes. I topped the day off with a Korean tofu stew, which I sadly forgot to measure ingredients on, so I grabbed the most calorific version I could find on MyFitnessPal and still came in under my goal.
  10. Dude, I'm wearing long underwear and a lined hoodie INSIDE. I may have bitten off more than I can chew with committing to three outdoor walks a week.
  11. Library Fitness Crew represent! I bought something in the vicinity of 30 assorted tupperwares when I started eating decently and they've been so goddamned useful. They're not only stackable and storeable, they let me parcel out ice cream in convenient half cup serving sizes if I ever feel the need.
  12. Yeah, the food logging has been the hardest part for me too. But it looks like you're sticking with it and that's how you develop habits. You've got this!
  13. Day 2-3 (01/05/16 - 01/06/16) Went 100 calories under my daily goal and walked two miles to improv yesterday. However, I barely had any food in my house at the end of the day. I just got home with a bunch of groceries: chicken, pork chops, Brussels sprouts and a giant head of cabbage that I'm going to make into sauerkraut with the fermentation kit I got for Christmas. Probably going to take another big walk tonight while listening to Wild by Cheryl Strayed.
