You step onto the road, and if you don't keep your feet, there's no knowing where you might be swept off to.” - Bilbo Baggins
  3. Yes!! No changes still, but I will have the 2020 version ready. I finally started running again. I am going to see if I can't finally make it back home!
  4. Hey All! Just wanted to let you know I created a new Topic for the Walk to Modor in 2019. Just a quick copy and paste job, but thought we should have a new home to get our walk on for the new year. I hope to be joining you all soon. Happy New Year!

  6. I do not plan to start a new topic. @TGP, or anyone else interested in keeping it going, you are free to use the spreadsheet for future challenges. 2019 SPREADSHEET Hopefully I will figure out what I want to do with myself and join you later on. Happy Holidays! P.S. Let me know if you find anything that needs attention in the spreadsheet. I will be happy to help.
  7. I checked real quick to see if there was a problem with the spreadsheet, but could not find anything. Have you been able to access the spreadsheet yet?
  8. Hey all! I have been largely inactive on nerd fitness for quite a while now, outside of keeping the spreadsheet running for this forum. I wanted to offer the opportunity for more active users to be more involved. It has been awesome seeing so many of you keeping the forum active and adding to the story. I think it would make more sense for those more invested in the adventure and this forum to be the one to run the forum. I am also open to passing ownership of the spreadsheet to that person, in which they would be free to update or add any new ideas, if they choose. If no one is interested or able, I would be more than happy to continue to maintain the spreadsheet. I just can't promise much in terms of updates anytime soon. Let me know if you would be interested. Great job to all of you who continue on your journey to destroy the One Ring!! Hope to meet you on your travels one of these days!
  9. Welcome to the New Year! I let injury and health issues dominate and derail my 2017. As I continue to recover, I have decided to not let these issues prevent me from doing the things that I love anymore. My immediate goal is to cut my internet usage to next to nothing, and in turn get more sleep, return to a healthy lifestyle, and be more productive. I plan to get out much more for hikes and strolls with my daughter, and really hope to start running again. That is my start and I hope to achieve so much more. In regards to the Walk to Mordor challenge and spreadsheet, let me know if you have any questions or find any errors. Hope you have a fantastic year and good luck on your quest to destroy the One Ring!!
  10. Happy New Year All!! The new thread has been posted in PVP Challenges (LINK). Good luck in your quest to destroy the One Ring!

  12. Howdy! I have the new spreadsheet all ready to go for 2018! Before I make a new thread though, I wanted to know if anyone else wanted to start it instead, maybe with more creative ideas in mind, or just someone with more presence here on the forums. Otherwise, I just planned to copy and paste the original post in to the new thread, and am unlikely to be around much (trying my darndest to cut my internet addiction...). I am also open to someone taking over the spreadsheet, only if they really, REALLY wanted to AND they are good with spreadsheets. I just don't want to monopolize this activity if there are others interested in running it. Hope you all are doing great on your journey!!
  13. Fixed! Thanks for finding that! There was just one misplaced letter in the formula made specifically for your situation. Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. I just got back last night from rafting the Grand Canyon for 19 days!! And now leaving in a few hours to visit family out of state for the weekend... Hopefully I will be joining the walk again soon. Happy walking all!!
  14. Awesome! Welcome Max! If your gonna run, might as well run through Middle Earth! I likely won''t be running for at least another month. The foot turned out to be more of a problem that I thought. Great job to the rest of you! Keep racking up those miles!!
  15. Running, kicked a rock, tripped, caught myself deep in stride, and kept running, not hardly missing a beat. So nothing cool unfortunately lol. Didn't hurt or even feel it at the time. I actually ran 12 more miles. Next day it was swollen a bit, and just never went away. Nothing painful or anything, just nagging. 3 weeks later I finally realized it was serious. Now I have 6 weeks in a boot and no marathon to show for it :-( All will be good though. I will make up for it when I am freed from this confounded contraption. I will make it back home to The Shire!! How is everyone holding up? I would almost trade the weather with some of you, with me being mostly grounded anyway. Because it has been REALLY super nice here in Phoenix lately! My daughter is loving it though, so sorry... *knock on wood* (things like this are probably what gets me in trouble, jinxing myself, and breaking things)
  16. Great job Vibrantella! I could use those boats right about now too. I have been hobbled by a foot injury.
  17. Welcome @deborahjade and @CheshireMoon!! Great goals! And welcome back @fitnessgurl! Was wondering where you got off to. Just couldn't resist them pints in Bree, huh? HA! I have the same problem. That is why steps really don't work for me. I am either 100 mph or snug as a bug on a rug. As soon as I get my training or other activities done, I go straight to my Couch to Kitchen plan. Although chasing the child around the house is a new obstacle to getting the full benefit from my C2K.
  18. Thanks! Happy to hear you all are liking the spreadsheet! Good idea! And got me moving on the updates I had said I would do on last years spreadsheet lol. Great Job SkyGirl! I am confident you will be in Mordor by the end of the year! Keep killin it!! According to EowynChallenge.net and LOTRProject.com, it took 185 days, from September 23 T.A. 3018 to March 25 T.A. 3019. Here is a breakdown: 28 days (Sep. 23-Oct. 20) from Bag End to Rivendell (458 miles) 64 days rest in Rivendell 25 days (Dec. 25-Jan. 17) from Rivendell to Lothlorien (462 miles) 28 days rest in Lothlorien 10 days (Feb. 16-25) from Lothlorien to Rauros (389 miles: ~377 miles by boat) 30 days (Feb. 26-Mar. 25) from Rauros to Mt. Doom (470 miles) That comes out to 9.6 miles per day. If you take out their two long rest periods and their 377 miles by boat, it is a solid 16.7 miles per day! That doesn't really sound too crazy, until, like Anomander pointed out, you consider the terrain they were traveling on and the absurd obstacles they had to overcome. A challenge to consider in the future
  19. WOO HOO! Thanks! And the same to you!! Sorry I didn't answer earlier, but I see you found the new spreadsheet Let's do this!!!
  20. Oh Yeah, forgot to mention that I updated the spreadsheet. Someone had the idea of setting a target for the year, so I added the ability to set a goal. Also made a bunch of changes, fixes, and added several new stats. Needless to say, I tinkered with everything and am bound to have messed something up. If you see anything wonky, please let me know.
  21. Welcome Anomander! Glad to have you along! Very ambitious! I am rooting for you in your goal and for good health. Back injuries are no fun. Curious, did you know when you hurt your back? What did it feel like when you first herniated the discs? I did a number on my back several months ago when I missed a step while lifting a cast iron stove. I am hoping it was only the back muscles, as I really haven't had any problems since it healed up (took roughly 3-4 weeks to feel mostly normal again). I have tweaked my back before, but this was bad. Just hoping I didn't do nothing major. 1,500 miles is awesome! Good luck Cataley! You got this!! Happy New Yearl!! Here's to many miles and many great adventures!
  22. WOO HOO!! Made it to Mordor and destroyed the Ring!! Here's hoping I can better avoid injury this year now that the burden has lifted. I tracked my activities through the year. Here is a quick rundown of my stats. 894.8 miles of walking (includes hiking, walking, and steps) 301.65 miles of running 1613.13 miles of biking (537.71 miles counted for the Walk to Mordor) 15.77 miles of swimming (counted as 47.31 miles for the Walk to Mordor) For 2017, and my trek back to Hobbiton, I am not counting walking or steps (but will still count hiking). Further, I have challenged myself to running 1,000 miles. 1,000 miles!! Over 3 times what I did this past year! Oy! Hope you all had a great year and look forward to hearing from all of you throughout the next year!
  23. Woo Hoo!! What is everyone's walking goal for the new year? I am aiming to make it back to The Shire before the end of the year. That will be just over 1600 miles, or 4.5 miles per day. That is on par with what I did in 2016, but I will be upping the ante. I will no longer include walking/steps. Only running, hiking, biking/3, and swimming*3. Except when injured. I will track my walking if I get injured to encourage myself to take it easy. I am looking forward to a great year with you all! Let's do this!!
  24. NEW Topic and Spreadsheet for 2017 is ready to go! Walk to Mordor and Back Again (2017) can be found in the PVP Challenges or by following THIS LINK. How is everyone doing to finish off the year? I am cutting my goal VERY close. I have been nursing an injury for the past few weeks, but I am ready to start putting in some miles again. Marathon training took quite a hit, but I may still be able to make it to Mordor before the end of year.
  25. Walk to Mordor and Back Again (2017) All who dare step outside The Shire will likely encounter many nasty adventures. The journey is not for the faint of heart, as the typical traveler must endure years of commitment. The fate of Middle-Earth hangs in the balance... are you prepared to walk to Mordor to destroy the One Ring? Begin Your Journey Now! Whether you have been trekking to Mordor for years or just looking to get started, you are welcome to join us at anytime. All miles/kilometers count. You decide how you want to accumulate distance. This is your adventure! (ex. my journey has included walking/steps, hiking, running, biking (distance/3), and swimming (distance*3)) SPREADSHEET Open the spreadsheet, click on the 'Sign Up' tab at the bottom of the page, fill in all fields labeled in yellow, and begin tracking and logging your distance in the appropriate monthly tab. “It's a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door.
