  1. I know I'm super late on this, but strongman is too awesome to not reply. Congratulations! I'm starting to do a some strongman training myself, but I'm limited to what I have at home. Hoping to join a local gym that has some implements. Not sure how much they have yet as they are primarily a powerlifting gym.
  2. I've had a similar "issue" lately. I just rejoined the workforce again in the HVAC field. My normal work schedule is 8-4:30, with about a 40 minute commute one-way. But once spring hits we'll get extremely busy and there will be days when I get off later than normal, plus I'll have to go "on-call" soon where any after hours calls will go to whoever is on call that week. I lift at home after work (pretty active job); I can't lift in the morning because the equipment is in our bedroom and won't fit anywhere else in the house. So I've had to evaluate my workout plan and schedule to make my time worth it. Since I mainly lift weights and do bodyweight stuff I've started Wendler's 5/3/1 program with accessory work added in. I'm managing to get my workouts done in about an hour, 4 times a week, with optional cardio/HIIT when I feel up to it. Long story short, I feel your pain and wish you well on your continued fitness and artistic journey.
  3. I've been a keto/LCHF advocate for about 3 years now. I absolutely love it. (The post got a little long.) Let me say that I've easily been able to keep my net carbs at 30g or lower per day, and even experimented with an all meat and eggs diet for a few months last summer. LCHF is very sustainable, but you have to have the right attitude towards it, as in "I can't live without pasta/bread/rice". You can easily substitute different chopped or shredded veggies to recipes, and in my opinion they taste better. I'll say that I had already lost 80 by the time is started LCHF (which BTW, I used a macro split of approximately 65% fat, 25% protein, 5% carbs) so I didn't experience any weight loss other than normal 5 pound fluctuations. But I know people who have had great success with it. I never experienced keto flu or lack of energy while on this WoE. In fact, some of my best workouts (lifting, running, HIIT, etc) were on LCHF. Oh, and food tastes way better with all the fat in it. I can't say enough good things about it as I really like this WoE. Let me know if you've got any questions. I'm not expert and don't really follow all of the science and research behind it, but contrary to what many people think I feel it is a healthy and easily sustainable WoE.
  4. I'm curious, what does the golden flax meal add to the quiche? And I assume the chia seeds are for texture? Never tried either of these in a quiche, so you peaked my interest.
  5. Sounds delish. I'll have to give them a try.
  6. Here's my quick and easy pancakes. 1 can of pumpkin puree, 4 eggs, cinnamon/nutmeg (optional). I love peanut butter spread on top. Of course, this makes a pretty big helping of pancakes, so if it's too much just cut the recipe in half. I've also tried it with unsweetened applesauce or an applesauce/pumpkin mixture. The applesauce changes the flavor a little and makes the batter a little runnier, but it's still good.
  7. This is my first and only tattoo, and honestly it wasn't bad. There were a few times it made me take me eyes off the TV and look at the artist, but not bad. And I have pretty skinny, boney fingers. My wife has a bigger tattoo on top of her foot that she got before the ring and she said the ring was more painful than her foot. So I guess it really just varies. I just really like never having to worry that I lost my ring or left it somewhere. And with the job field that I'm about to enter I've seen some pretty nasty deglove pictures from people that left their rings on.
  8. Thanks for the suggestions. The main reasons I wanted to read the original trilogy are to try and get a better understanding of the timeline of the series, and to get those extras you get from books that movies leave out, like how characters are feeling and the additional stories or extended scenes. Happy reading all!
  9. I guess I'll go ahead and introduce myself (I got a little long winded). I was never into sports or exercise growing up, and as a result was pretty overweight in high school. In college I joined a gym with some friends and ended up being the only one that stuck to it. I loved it and made some really good gains. My biggest downfall was and still is my diet. I love to eat. So even though I was working out religiously I was also getting fatter. By my 29th birthday I was finally fed up and had reach an all time high of 240#. I couldn't run, I was fat, and the weights I was lifting were not where I should have been with 11 years of lifting under my belt. I vowed to get in the best shape of my life by my 30th birthday. I revamped my diet to about 95% whole foods. I also decided to revamp my workouts and up the intensity. I ditched the weights in favor of bodyweight movements and started jogging/running. By my 30th I had gone from 240 to about 170, and reached my lowest weight of 153 (this was with lots of running thrown in, but I feel like I lost a good bit of muscle mass). When my daughter was born in 2014 my wife and I cancelled out gym memberships and continued training at home, still with mostly bodyweight exercises. We finally got a weight bench for the house, so I'm now back to weight lifting and trying to put on some muscle mass. I tend to hover around the 160# range these days. I like being in this weight range, but I'd like to recomp a little more while staying around the same weight. For the more important stuff: I love fantasy, sci-fi, and comedy (movies, shows, cartoons, books, video games, etc, my wife and I love to play video games together, and I'm almost done with my second round of school (this time tech school) and am looking for work in my new field, which is exciting and scary. So that's a little about me. Hello, fellow nerds!
  10. I love Star Wars and grew up on the original trilogy. I've been wanting to start reading the Star Wars books for years, and I'm finally gonna give it a go. Anyone have an order to read them in, or does it really matter? I've picked up the novelizations of the original trilogy to start with. Thanks!
  11. As others have said, diet is the biggest part of losing weight, and almost any "style" of dieting or "way of eating" can accomplish that. The important thing is to find something that works best for you and is something you can sustain.
  12. Thought this might be a fun topic. So what are some weird noises/distractions/music/etc that you've had to deal with while exercising? Example: I do almost all of my exercising at home as I have a weight bench, treadmill, and other assorted equipment in my house. I also have a 19 month old daughter that I sometimes have to distract while lifting. Well, Elmo is her favorite so he or some other Sesame Street toon is usually singing in the background. Every time I hear Paul Rudd trying to help the 3 princesses I feel like I'm getting ready to squat. Is it just my wife and myself, or what? Doesn't have to be kid related.
  13. My wife and I started off with Rings and would take them off when at the gym. However, after we both lost a bunch of weight, our rings didn't fit anymore. Mine in particular would fly across the room if I moved my arm too much. So we decided to get tattoos of the first letter of the other's name. Works out great since I don't like jewelry and never could get used to a ring. Plus there's no worry of ever losing it. But I know not everyone is willing to do this.
