  1. My 3 go-to sports are swimming, mountain biking and skiing. I could swim before I could walk. I grew up around lakes and can never remember a time when I could not swim. My Dad had me in the lake when I was only about 6 weeks old and it has been something I have always enjoyed. Mountain biking was more a fluke. Like every kid, my bike was my freedom. I rode all over the place, including different trails in some nearby woods. I guess I never grew out of it. Skiing just looked like fun. I joined the ski club in middle school because it sounded appealing. I was hooked on first trip down the local hill. I like the speed, I like the challenge and I enjoy being outdoors. I have tried other sports, those just stuck with me. I am willing to try most things once and see how I enjoy it. I tried a motocross track once. That was a blast, but I can't really couldn't afford to keep at it.
  2. I had furniture scheduled for delivery for next Friday that we purchased 3 weeks ago. Today, they called and left a message which said they don't have a truck coming to my area that day and I needed to reschedule. Problem is, that was literally the only day all month we can be around to wait during a delivery window and we both have to schedule planned days off at least two months in advance. When I called back, the phone rang and rang with no ability to leave a message and no tones like I was on call waiting. When a company cannot fulfill their scheduled deliveries and does not answer their phones, it really shows that they my buisiness was not important to them.
  3. Time in the saddle will be your biggest benefit. I assume that the bike shop spent the time to get the right fit for you. Clipless pedals and proper spinning will boost your efficiency.
  4. I was a bartender at an Olive Garden for several years, over 10 years ago. That job was the start of me becoming overweight and loosing my endurance. It marked the end of me walking or biking everywhere due to the fact I had to leave the immediate area around campus. Also no longer swam non-stop since I was not lifeguarding any longer. I consumed entirely too many meals of nothing but pasta, breadsticks and Alfredo sauce. I didn't drink much on the job, but we were always sampling different wines and cocktails we came up with. It was a fun job, but I did a poor job balancing food consumption with everything else. I would recommend looking at the available ingredients in your kitchen and having the cooks fix you something unique and healthy. Avoid sipping pop from the drink station and minimize any alcohol and desserts managers may tempt you with to boost your sales.
  5. There are several smart trainers on the market that allow for virtual racing and training similar to the Peleton spin bike. You will need a bike as well, but like a posted above said, they can always be found used. I have had my eye on this one: http://www.bkool.com/en-US/turbo-trainer/bkool-smart-go
  6. Ski season is officially over and Spring is here in Northern Indiana. I have the mountain bike all tuned up and will start on my cross bike next. My Son is big enough to join me for rides now. Does anyone have any experience with the Weehoo iGo trailers? I am looking at two different models, the Blast and Turbo. Both use a seatpost hitch and remain inline with the bike to reduce drag compared to the Burley type trailers. The Turbo has a pedal assist for the wheel while the Blast is just a trailer. At 1.5 yrs, I don't see him pedaling yet, but I am sure he will as he gets older. I am not sure if his assistance would be enough of a benefit for the added cost. Northern Indiana is fairly flat, I only intend to take him road or greenway rides and some tame dirt trails that won't bounce him around too much. https://rideweehoo.com/product-category/bicycle-trailers/
  7. Dunhams has the boat I want on sale until the end of the month. I just ordered a carrier for my roof rack using REI rewards, so I won't be in a real large investment. I am getting excited to get back on the water. I have missed the lakes.
  8. I think it is normal. After a sedentary winter due to no snow and my son being born, I have struggled to get back in the grove of biking. At this rate, I will be in prime riding shape by the time it freezes again.
  9. Get the book Zinn and the Art of Mountain Bike or the Park Tool Big Blue Book of Bicycle Repair. The Park Tool website is fantastic, but I like having a book open for reference if I have my bike on the stand in the garage.
  10. I have been thinking about getting a kayak for a long time. At some point, I want to build a nice wood one, but for now I will start with plastic. For background, I have spent my whole life around small boats, I have even canoed through mild whitewater rapids on some river tours. I have done one whitewater kayak trip, but I am looking for a flatwater, daytrip boat for fishing and recreational paddling. I would have to drive several hours to run rapids, but we have an abuntance of still rivers and lakes to enjoy in Northern Indiana. I don't see any weekend long camping trips on the water until my son gets older. This boat has good reviews and is under $300, but I am open to suggestions. I would like to keep the cost of the boat under $500 to budget for the other accessories and roof carrier I will need. http://www.pelicansport.com/en/products/kayaks/sit-kayaks/bounty-100x-angler Side question, who has a favorite life jacket that doesn't interfere with paddling? I have never been one to wear one in a canoe or larger boat, but there isn't as much room to store one in a kayak.
  11. I am on PS4. I usually play Battlefront, COD, or Destiny, but lately I have been playing MLB the Show. Next up after that is No Man's Sky and whenever they finally make Red Dead 3. PSN: nater219
  12. Anyone from NC? My wife and I have a cabin rented in Black Mountain in October. Neither one of us are big fans of the recent legislation signed by your Governor. It was a mistake when Mike Pence signed a similar bill here and we are all glad that Indiana changed its mind. However, we do want my wife's grandmother to spend time with our son as she is aging. It is important that they can bond as family. I know the Asheville area is a lot different than other parts of the state. Can anyone recommend some good restaurants or other businesses to show our support to? We both feel like boycotting the trip all together isn't good for our son and isn't fair to a business who is open and affirming to everyone. Thanks in advance.
  13. Like others, I always have water at hand. I rarely drink anything besides black coffee and water. In any given day, I drink at least 100oz, usually more. When using a 16 oz dinner glass or a 20 oz bottle, this really isn't very much in a day. I really notice feeling crappy if I don't stay properly hydrated. When I was working as a lifeguard in college and when I work outdoors now in the summer, it is not uncommon for me to drink a gallon of water by mid-afternoon. I tell guys I work with now to avoid pop and too many sports drinks too. As a rule for me, 1 20 oz bottle of gatorade for every 2 or 3 20 oz bottles of water keeps me feeling good in the hot sun. I drink as much as I need to avoid dry lips, feeling thirsty and keep urine clear to pale. Often times the first feelings of hunger are actually thirst. You may find yourself eating a little less when you stay hydrated too.
  14. I always wash off the factory grease that comes on the chain. It is supposed to be good, but it is too sticky for our trails which include sand and clay. I tried wax lube, but didn't like it either. For our conditions, one drop of tri flow on each roller seems to be the best. Since I wash off the factory grease, I have to lube the chain about every other ride. Also, WD-40 is not a lube. Don't use it your bike unless you are trying to disperse water.
  15. I just got my new chain, chainrings and cassette for my mountain bike for this season. Everything else looks to be in good shape, so after a little grease in the right spots and triflow on the others, I will be ready for dry trails.
