  1. I wanted to give a conclusion to this challenge. Unfortunately due to a crazy amount of work the last couple of weeks I didn't much of a chance to write. I will say that I am proud of the last few weeks. I didn't finish as strong as I would have liked but I got started and thats what is important. Every day is a new day to start again.
  2. I had a great weekend! I stuck with one soda and had lots of fun with the fam. We did bust out Dance Revolution. My husband and I could use a refresher but it was fun teaching my son the classic game. My other son and I went rock climbing. This is an activity that we are hoping he gets more into as other traditional sports haven't worked. He has autism and is very active so he needs an outlet but can't always handle groups of people. This is something he can do mostly on his own and at his own pace, plus it takes into account his monkey skills. I haven't been able to do much but belay for him but I'd like to do it more since it looks like fun and a great total body workout. We all went to the park on Sunday because it was such a beautiful day! I'm going to have to get over not getting as much as I would like done at the house, but I think I can live with picking up some slack this week.
  3. Woohoo I got up this morning! I'm not going to lie I got up and then laid back down for a minute but in the end I made it up. Is meeting a personal goal a good excuse to stay home form working on Friday? If not, I think a new policy should be instituted.
  4. Week 2 Update so far... This week has been a bit of a struggle. Not sure what is going on except that it's Texas and we don't have usual winters. Which means that its January and its starting to get warm again which means my allergies start hating life. This makes getting up in the morning and not drinking sodas particularly difficult. I haven't found much better than the caffeine and the carbonation of a coke to help with itchiness of the throat and headaches that allergies can bring on. I have also discovered another evil of going out to eat. It is a time suck. People complain about not having time to make dinner when you think about prep and doing dishes but I may have to disagree. At least at home one person can work on cooking while the other helps kids with homework. Then one person can work on dishes while the other makes lunches the next day. When you are out to eat, you are all away from home doing nothing but waiting on food and then waiting on the check. We don't generally going out much during the week, but we have twice already this week. This adds to the difficulty of not getting a soda but I realized how little I got done on these two days but I good chunk of my evening was in a restaurant. While eating at home is not part of my challenge I think it may be part of my success. That is enough of the negative. I will prevail! I did get up early yesterday so this just means tomorrow morning is do or die! I'm going to try some hot tea with lemon for the allergies. I'm thinking I may have to go old school in the next couple of night and bring out dance revolution to do with the kids. My son found it this weekend and was immediately intrigued, so it's time to get our groove on.
  5. Just wanted to give a week 1 upate. I was succesful in all of my goals! I was able to get up twice this week (although barely) but it counts! I maintained my soda goal without too much trouble so far. I did a 3 mile walk (a little running) with one of my sons. I found a trail that you had to walk 1.5 mile to get a playground to help motivate him. While we were walking Daddy and the other guy went to the grocery store for mostly healthy stuff and worked on homemade pizzas. Side note: my sister-in-law and I are signing up for the UTMB Causeway FunD Run 5K in March. Going to stick to my goals to help make it.
  6. Thanks! Mostly I tried drinking more water throughout the week. A couple of times I switched it out for tea. So far staying hydrated with cold water seems to work for me.
  7. Good Afternoon! I like your goals and may have to steal the de-clutter one room idea. I found it easy to make an excuse and not work out or cook because there is too much cleaning to do or I don't feel I have the space. I think that is a great step! I'd be happy to keep in touch and keep each other on the right path to meet our goals!
  8. I just wanted to say thanks for encouraging me on my thread and good luck to you on all your goals! Sounds like you are doing great so far! We will slay the soda dragon! I also have a desk job where I sit most of the day. I started using the fitbit and love it. I'm trying not to use the phone or the messaging system for my coworkers, instead I get up and talk to them. It's made a big difference on how long I sit at a time. Also gives me some social time to break up the day, which never hurts.
  9. This is my first challenge and I'm started a little late. I have started trying to make these changes this week, but wanted to be held accountable. I'm a 35 year old woman from Houston. I have two almost seven year old boys that I struggle to keep up with. I love being active with them and my husband and I want to incorporate as much as my fitness health with them as possible. I'm still looking for that one thing that I really like to do. I do enjoy running but unfortunately I don't have a good place to run near me, so I get stuck on treadmills. I'm trying not to let that hamper my enthusiasm. I am into Batman and Grimm Fairy Tale comics, steampunk novels and starting to get more into anime. I just need someone to figure out how to make reading into a sport! Main goal: To have a healthy active family. Basic Goals: Diet: Cut down to two sodas a week, one during the week and one on the weekend. (need to totally kick this but want to start with small changes) Fitness: Get up early twice a week and workout before work. Life: Do an activity with the boys every week. This can be outside taking a walk or inside building a lego robot. Here's to a great new year!
