  1. i know it's not my post, but, do anyone of you ever had a Wierd feeling when overhead pressing? I don't know how to describe it, and maybe it's bad, it's like, after the bar is just above my head i got this feeling like blood presure in my head-neck-traps(maybe is a traps thing). Oh and to contribute a little, i think we lift +- the same, so one thing that helped me is just: Stay away from the bigger weights, i know it souns silly but one time I staled for like 6 weeks and didn't make any big progress (maybe lifting the weight i used 1 more time or 2 max) until i went from 3-4 rep sets to 6 reps sets. It's so light that it feels much better and i can move it faster and with better form so it feels awesome! Anyway, good luck and keep overhead pressing and doing pull ups, those exercise may be too hard sometimes, but damn they look and feel badass.
  2. 1st goal (bw bench press at @156 i think..) check. 2nd goal (2bw squat) on the road (3x5 @187 and i think i can do more now) 3rd and final goal (dream like goal, 3 times bodyweight ANYTHING... thought bench press it would be cool xD). it's possible no? i mean, i think i can do it, but i've only been working out for a year +- so maybe the strenght will stop coming with the time...
  3. I replace stuff like this with "workouts" why the "" ? because they will be "power oriented circuits" wich means.... trow stuf, jump, run, kick, trow more stuff, trow heavy stuff, some shadow box "drills", some bone conditioning (aka smash my knucles to a wall or desk in a light fashion) and maybe a bodyweight movement like V-sits or 1 handed push ups. the focus, the rage expresion and the strugle will take over anything else and after 5 to 10 min will be quiet and happy
  4. do walkin lunges with dumbells in your hands 1) is another exercise 2) diferent movement 3) works your hip muscles (aka. abs, low back and ass) 4) the weight isn't in your back 5) it's great for conditioning and fat loss. 6) you're also working your forearms (you can't do this with a weight that you can't hold in your hands, but unless you have hell of a low body and weak hands it wont matter because you wont reach that point). Flaws: it's harder to progress with a dumbell exercise because of the weight limitations (here in argentina all the dumbells go from x weight to x+2kg wich i think is 4-5 pounds.... in each hand.. so if you can't walk with the extra 4kg you're ****!) In the end, hope this help you, if anyone up there already told something about lunges, well sorry but I didn't wanted to read more than the original post. PS: oh and if you need more reasons well.. 7) it's an almost unilateral exercise, works balance to some degree, and because the weight is in your hands it's more compound oriented (all of this improve athletics). And 8) you WILL need A LOT of cuad strenght... seriusly... your ass will be sore as hell the next day, but if you don't have the quads to do this then you're not going to move!
  5. for me the best fighter would have this "stats": awareness of how your body works (like... I recently started to "feel" my waist due to core workouts and practicing a lot of round house kicks and stuff... it's like magic), endurace (both cardio and muscular), precision, coordination and power also, mentally speaking, it could be better if one can "seek the fight" and not something like "something not to fear", rage is bad, but in the right side it can connect you to the instinc part of a fight that many average or casual fighters don't have because of the "sport" part of the fights. if you fight like your opponent is going to kill you I can bet you would be really motivated and wouldn't do so many mistakes as usuall. what do you think about this? ^
  6. Start light with barbells and compound movements. this will help you to get the "skills" (balance and coordination). Then add weight according to your goals. Then add a couple of dumbells exercises somedays to vary a little (because your muscles will get bored and will need to do something else or you will hit a wall in your progress), this is because dumbells require more coordination/time with both arms (one doesn't simply push first the right hand and then the left hand). Good luck and HAVE FUN! <----- really, if you can, it will make you progress faster... don't bench press if you hate it there's other stuff out there (like declined push ups, dips, military presses, etc).
  7. It's like a tradition nowdays: you exercise, you HAVE to wear exercise clothes. wich is actually ok because, unless you are Chuck Norris (or at least have his indistructibles jeans), they will restrain the range of motion of your legs when you run, squat, etc. And they will (yes, eventually they all will) break into a window to the not so clean underwear that you're wearing when you work out. PD: alltought using yoga pants or shorts only to walk it's a waist of time and money. (unless you really like them).
  8. thank you all for answering me I'm going to start crossfit as soon as i can and about parkour, yeah it's awesome but it's really hard to find a place were to practice it if your city only have flat streets
  9. ok it's 2 am of a long day and english is not my native laguange (and I don't even have good grammar in my own) so sorry if this seems like a stab in the eyes of someone. (i hope it will be at least a stab of... joy?) I was swimming around the net (yep, internet already kindaped my soul... don't worry we stayed in touch) and manage to find this "ranger" stuff... well... how does one say it?... I LOVE IT, I mean, I want, I NEED to do... to be able todo EVERYTHING (if posible) and fitness related stuff is in my top 3 now (besides of... you know... enjoy my life and... well, eat-sleep-breath, you know that boring stuff we do all the time because if we don't we die and bla bla bla bla bla) and already started like half a year ago strenght training and Tae-kwon-do, but it doesn't seem to fill all the holes, to give me the "answers" even after I putted some gymnastic movements in my workouts I still can't manage to feel like "ok, I just need to do this stuff" without thinking that I'm like... incomplete version of myself, always like, "yeah and now you could put some interval training here because you suck in things related to speed and cardio" (to never do nothing because, well.. maybe it's too much already¿) I know it doesn't make sense BUT, then I started to see you guys, speaking of (tatatatatatatatatatatatata) yes, crossfit! and I know it's not perfect, I know that it's expensive, I know it will give me the motivation to kill myself, but I need just to know One thing. Is it worth it? if you answer, then thank you, if you don't, have a nice day?
  10. the other day I tryed to go out and run like... i don't know... 3-4 laps to a square near my house... like... 1,2 km each one without walking nor rest... Good: I managed to do the 3 laps (3,6 km) bad: After the first one i felt like dying (fuck you ego that make's me run after this point) really bad: 1 of my shoulders started to hurt close to the end. hell: my (translating)... spleen ? (in spanish is called "bazo"... don't know if it is the right word) is still hurting me if I walk 2 or more streets... so.. it's almost a week from this, my shoulder is ok it healed almost after I stoped, and my spleen seems better because it doesn't hurt anymore. q&a time 1) should I go and check with a doctor? (you know, because of the sholder and the spleen) 2) how much time I should run for a good start if i'm ok? (like, i have no cardio, and a little of stamina, i'm not overweight, and I'm 17 yrs old) thanks
  11. ok, I do tkd and sometimes feel your pain. The thing that works most of the time for me is just "relax" I mean, really, relax, and do 1 movement or 1 group, then breath and do the next one, practice in your home in your off days and practice the movement in diferent positions (like if you have to do a side kick do it, then do it after a block of your form, then do it 2 times in a row). When you start to feel like your body knows what he's got to do with no need of overthinking, put the strenght and speed needed for a good form, then if you have a mistake it's gonna be more... ... easy to detect, but usually they'r little things (important, but little, things to change), and if the overthinking appears again... just relax and repeat the cycle. oh, and always ask exactly the purpose of every movement and their logic, it help me a lot especially with blocks that I can't see when they worked in a fight. PD: relax, and take it easy (yes, you can be relaxed while you do things that force your focus, strenght, speed and balance without sacrificing any of these).
  12. don't say it.... don't say it... don't... aaa what the hell! 9GAG ARMY IS HERE!!!! XD Ok so... if you want to lose weight and you're still young it's going to be really fast... I mean... not fast... but faster than normal, and you're still on a good age to change your whole body shape and ... (i don't know the word.... but it means something like... if you do it now and for a while you'r going to have an easy time keeping you in that state even when you become old like yoda). go slow but never stop, watch your diet (try to eat your favorite healty things... believe me you'r going to find that some are really good) and exercise every week.... in a month or so you are going to be another person, then the next month, and the next one, and the next one, until you acomplish your goal, then you'r screw (in a happy way) because you'r going to have a hard time looking how to level up your live xD Good luck & Have fun
  13. So.. ok fuck that title, first of all english isn't my native language so sorry if I made 1-2-89 big mistakes. I've been reading NF since half year vacations of 2010 and it's really interesting, it's full of funy things (and nerdy too) and helps me with a lot of info&motivation like... everyday I want to "level up my life". I remember how scared I was of becoming fat like my father (83kg) with not even twenty years on my back.. This help me for the little push i just needed, I started to do more serius tkd and train with bodyweight at my home like.. almost every day... I've got to admit that I went lazy because my pc and my bed were always like "come with us, we don't hurt, we make you feel better for hours, stop doing that". Fortunately I manage to change my group of lazy friends, to a group of... well... lazy people who study more the things that they like and do workouts every other day with... an 4kg weight exercise that make your mouth taste like blood for 30 sec. Now i'm going to start to "lisent" all the advice I've been reading for a year and a half and start to do reall heavy strenght straining, with short-hard-compound exercises (I have enough of biceps curls) and win this year ITF Taekwondo tournament in Argentina... (gotta love the moment when you realyze they'r going to kick your ass so bad). PD: sorry for the wall of text and Have Fun leveling up your lives.
