  1. Prep is tough. Have you tried prepping on the weekends for the week? It's an easy way to ensure you have lunches ready. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Great job on starting today! What's for lunch? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. What's up Seeker Nova! I can't believe there's another Yuba City person on here. Welcome! I noticed you do some Muay Thai. Sweet. I just got done with a seminar tonight (first time doing MT) and it was awesome.
  4. This was a fantastic and accurate description of a gym. Well done!
  5. That quest list is great. I'm almost certain I would have never actually jumped in here and posted if I didn't put it on that quest list. I'm really looking forward to getting involved in this rebellion.
  6. If you guys are going to watch TV together, sit next to each other. I swear this one little change can make a difference. You can... Write a book together. Even a small book that nobody will read (but maybe your kids will!). It doesn't have to be good either. And for a bonus, you can illustrate it yourself too.Like Separatist posted, get a ukulele. They are fairly cheap and easy to learn and who cares if you can't sing a lick, it's still fun.Play 20 questions...How well do you really know each other? Do you have interesting stories about your youth? Share 'em!Plan a family trip. This could be a picnic or something local, or maybe a day trip to the forest, or go to see that one thing you've been wanting to see but never do. Look up some jokes and see who can tell the best joke.Go out front and look at the stars. Learn a few constellations. Get a pair of binoculars and you'll really see how much more there is in the sky. I'm a sky nerd.Debate. It doesn't have to be about anything real. Debate why butterflies are better than caterpillars or why eggplant is your favorite (I know eggplant is nobody's favorite, that's what makes it fun).Have a whistling contest.
  7. I'm in Yuba City, but I work in Sac and am there all the time. I always wondered how much of the rebellion was in this area.
  8. Glad to hear you joined a football team. That seems like one of those goals that a person thinks about all the time but in the back of their mind they never really do it. But you did!
  9. I feel the call... It's been years. I've read. I've studied. I've dabbled. I've lurked. I've lived on the outside. I've watched and gathered all the information a man could ever need. Why is it year after year after year I continue to sharpen my ax but have yet to take an honest swing with it? My vision was blurry and the fog made the world unclear. As I looked down the road I saw many things that I thought were important. There were so many paths to take that I ended up walking them all only to realize I've gone in a circle. What was it about my recent birthday - I turned 35 - that seemed to clear the fog and focus my vision? As I look around me I can finally see my destination. The distractions are gone and I have a direction. I feel the call, the call of the wild. That pretty much sums me up, hopefully more exciting and entertaining that what is to follow. Hello fellow rebels. Randy the Red here. I'm 35 and finally feel like I'm starting to get it. I've spent so many years (since about 2010) reading things like Nerd Fitness and The Art of Manliness and loads of personal development books, rarely taking the time to act on what I've learned. The wife and I are pretty much on the same page. We read all the info, sort of exercise, sort of eat right, but never really quit the junk food and wine. But I guess it's good that we keep on chugging along. As for community, we're both pretty much lurkers online and in the real world, especially when it comes to this health and fitness stuff. Really this is kind of weird because both my wife and I aren't awkward or shy people. My day job is a coder, which there seems to be a handful of those around these parts. In my off time, my hobby seems to be hobbies. In no specific order: art, web design, guitar, photography, blogging, astronomy, martial arts, screen printing, electronics, cooking, travel, painting figurines, typography, yoga, designing shirts, wood whittling, writing, programming, gaming, video editing, stand-up comedy, cars...honestly, there are probably a few more that I'm not remembering, but you can see I've dabbled in a lot of stuff! After 35 years of wandering aimlessly I feel like I'm figuring things out. I've cut out all the distraction hobbies and have narrowed it down to a few: astronomy, karate/jiu jitsu, writing/blogging, and stand-up comedy, with just a hint of electronics mixed in. What all of this boils down to is I want to be a bad ass. I've never been one, and I feel like the time is right. I'm feeling the need to dominate in life. I want to be a threat when competing. I want to show my kids that their dad is confident, and bold, and adventurous, and that he kicks ass at life. I want my wife to be married to a confident man who can show her the world! I want to be strong and healthy and rid myself of anxiety. I want to live up to my awesome beard (note: I have a big, manly beard but often feel I don't live up to standards of the beard). That pretty much takes us to now, where I am expanding my comfort zone by coming out of hiding and introducing myself here. I'm looking forward to being a part of and getting involved in a great community! Please feel free to say hi or ask me your silliest question or ask me about myself. Here is my character: https://www.nerdfitness.com/character/67361. I'm still working on figuring out my goals, but it's a start, and from what I hear starting is one of the most important things.

Yep, I was unable to post on the intro thread as well. So I just posted on my Adventure Guild thread!

  12. Welcome John, and that's one great beard, brother! I've got to be honest, you sounds like a future me! I'm in to martial arts, I would love to learn some blacksmithery, day job is not fulfilling, and I'm an aspiring writer/blogger who also recently started a blog. If you tell me you are in to astronomy I'm going to have to ask to see your tattoos to make sure you aren't future me! It sounds like I'm sort of where you are with the fitness thing. I've been reading everything and attempting to get in shape for years. I even came close a few years back when I finished a 90-day program. It took maybe a month before I pretty much lost that progress and I slowly ballooned back up. I guess that's why I'm here. I think it's time I actually get involved and be a part of this awesome community. I think I need that public accountability and that group support. I'm 35 and I'm ready to be a bad ass. A good bad ass, but still a bad ass.
  13. Welcome rebrum! I'm also brand new to the forums and the online community, but have been lurking for YEARS! It feels great to take that first step and actually post something. And I feel your struggle! Rice Krispie treats are the worst, but they are the BEST! Fortunately, those don't show up too often for me, just the box of donuts. I always make it a point, but only when the willpower is strong, to walk by the donuts and stare them down, and in my head I say, "Blank you, donuts, I beat you today."
