  1. What app do you guys recommend for tracking my rides? I'm using Strava right now, I like it because of the community and 'trophy' challenges. Are there any others that people would recommend?
  2. My Dad has his bikes hanging from the roof in his garage. He just had some large hooks with a screw end that he drilled holes for and stuck into the roof. Don't put your bike outside, unless it's a junker that runs like a beauty.
  3. Oh man. Too many to remember. 5x: The Dark Knight Rises 3x: Transformers 2 (all in the same 24hr period. I know.) Avengers Interstellar 2x: The Martian Star Wars 1, 2, 3, 7 (and counting) Inception (and it's playing in my city tomorrow night, so I get to see it again!) Edge of Tomorrow Jurassic World Skyfall The Dark Knight Avengers Mad Max: Fury Road The Lego Movie Ironman 3 Star Trek: Into Darkness Man of Steel Pacific Rim Gravity That's all I can think of from the last few years.
  4. Greetings fellow adventurers! I stumbled in here from the local watering hole, deciding that it's time for a change. I guess this is the place to introduce myself? I'm going to go point form: 1) Currently overweight. My goal is to get to 200lbs in 6mths from the 235ish I'm currently at (down from 245 when I first found this site 2 weeks ago). I knew it was a problem when I had to put on my "fat pants" that I had put away a year ago because the jeans I had been wearing were far too tight. 2) My diet has been the biggest stumbling block for me on my quest thus far: Too much unhealthy snacking, high-carb meals, and general poor eating. 3) My Fortress of Solitude is in Canada, and currently we are covered in snow and ice so my normal workout routine of cycling every morning has been put on hold until the snow melts in May. 4) I'm very motivated to change my habits due to an upcoming engagement/wedding to my Lois Lane. How I'm going to do it: 1) I'm going about 85% Paleo. The way I see it, I'm going to stick to it when I am preparing my own meals and snacks, as well as if I eat at a restaurant and I can have some control over my choices. But if I'm having my food prepped for me in from somebody I know and it's unavoidable, then I'm not going to complain if it's not Paleo. This isn't a huge change in habit, normally I eat near-paleo food but throw in sauces, breads, rice, or pasta, and it has caught up to me. 2) I'm committing to working out every morning 6/7 days per week. BBWW every two days, Yoga on the other mornings, and a rest on one weekend morning. Need to shed some pounds before I head to the gym and bulk up the muscles. 3) When the snow melts, I'll be jumping back on the bicycle ASAP. I'm not much of a runner, it's rough on my joints and I feel like there's "no point." Thoughts? Recommendations from people who have been at this longer? I'd love to get some input on my plans, that's why I'm here! And, some general knowledge: 1) Affinity to Superman (if you hadn't caught that yet). 2) I love reading sci-fi, but also non-fiction adventure books and bios. 3) I play bass, drums, and guitar 4) I REALLY enjoy movies, I'm "that guy" that knows about all the movies 5) Part of my motivation is coming from my job: I used to work with teenagers and they were always trying to help me get in shape, so now that I have the time I'm going to give it a real shot. That's about it for me! I look forward to interacting with you all on our quests! And in the words of my friend The Flash, "Life is locomotion. If you're not moving, you're not living. But there comes a time when you've got to stop running away from things and you've got to start running toward something. You've got to forge ahead. Keep moving. Even if your path isn't lit, trust that you'll find your way."
  5. Hey guys, I'm pretty new here. I see this where I go to get tips on my workout! So, here's where I'm at: Currently I'm doing the Beginner's bodyweight workout that Steve wrote a while ago. I do that three times per week. Currently I'm trying out some yoga on days between BBWW days, which will be replaced by cycling (which I love) once the snow is gone. And then one day of rest. As for the BBWW, I am starting to advance past the difficulty it provides in what I think is a good workout. Here's what I did this morning: 20 bw squats 15 push-ups 40 lunges (20 each side) 15 rows (w/ 20lb dumbbell) 30s plank 30 jumping jacks x3 I did all that today and was pretty tired, but not completely bagged. I've been adding a few extra reps to each set, but at what point does it become ineffective? I'm trying to lose weight (am at ~85% paleo right now) and I've heard that you want to be pushing yourself in reps, not just trying to do as many reps as possible. But, my issue is that I'm definitely not ready for the 'advanced' bodyweight workout that Steve wrote about. Should I just be pushing myself to do as many reps as possible in that workout, keep adding reps to my current workout, or try something else? I'm open to any and all suggestions! Thanks in advance.
  6. Also an Edmontonian! Just started on the site.
  7. Hey guys! This is my first post on NF! After bouncing around for a few weeks and getting a hold of my bearings, I went straight for the cyclist thread! I got a road bike last summer and was on it every morning for an hour, my city has an extensive trail system. So that kept me busy... until winter hit. So now I'm just counting the days until the snow and ice melt and it gets warm enough to get back on the trails (I'm definitely not hardcore enough or have the money to winterize a bike and be comfortable). So I'll be checking in a lot more in the spring! I look forward to interacting with you all!
