  1. So, after five months of not working, OMG I got a job, nightshift, in a warehouse. Paleo is easy in the house, I can cook eggs and bacon. But I keep thinking (for work). Sandwhiches with tuna. No. Sandwhiches with chicken. No. I need help in packing a lunch, please?
  2. Technically it was yesterday, but I waited till today to see if I could do one. One pull up, two days in a row. I'm ready to celebrate
  3. Congrats. I joined the Navy years ago (left after basic) but the training was probably the hardest thing I've ever done. Yet also the most enjoyable. good luck with what comes next
  4. I only saw 8. I could take 8, easy.
  5. In response to the privilege threads, it seems to me privilege is now reversing. As a straight white male I often feel part of some (I'm not going to say unprivileged, but not sure what word fits). For instance, applying for a job A white guy and a black guy apply for a job. All things being equal, the black guy will get the job because if he doesn't, its racist discrimination. Even if the white guy is slightly better qualified or experienced, the black guy still has a strong chance. The white guy has to be a lot better to get the job. It's a lot easier for a woman to prove sexual harassment against a man than a man to prove it against a woman. In a lot of cases, if a man reports a woman for domestic violence, it isn't followed up. There are around 30 women's refuges in Edinburgh. There are 0 for men. Even gay people have charities and groups and events and laws against discrimination, and all these things set up to make other people equal and doing it by dragging white people down. And I'm not saying that because white people are better, but because in the Western world they have tended to enjoy a higher place in society. Equality should not be about dragging everyone down to the lowest common level, it should be about raising everyone to the highest. And now for a true story. A few years back a guy I knew, whilst still in school, get in an argument with another kid. The other kid said: "you're a white bastard." So the guy I know said "yeah, well, you're a black bastard." The school got the police involved, the police got the children's panel involved, the children's panel got social workers involved. The parents (I know them, too) at one point for their son was going to end up in care. He got expelled. And a cop told him "you know, if you had said 'you brown bastard' none of this would have happened." Apparently its racist to call a black person black. But its fine to call a white person white? Even though we're really a weird creamy beige pasty colour?
  6. In response to the first post, some of it could be the way its said. "You're too healthy," sounds better than "you're fat." But "you're too healthy" sounds as good as "you're a bit overweight. If you ever decide to do something about it, I can help you out with some exercises." I'm assuming this is to a friend; why the Hell would you tell a stranger they were fat? And how can you be too healthy? Telling someone they're too quiet... I've only done this when someone was being bullied. "You're too quiet. You should stand up for yourself." shy... in the context of dating. "I really fancy him." "Well, stop being shy and ask him out." loud... I say this too my mum a lot. And my daughter. They've never took it in and changed, though. I've had it said to me (escpecially when I was drunk). I honestly don't think loud people realise they are loud. obnoxious... can't be compared to shy. Outgoing is the opposite of shy, and outgoing is not an insult. Obnoxious is. Chewing loudly, mouth open... first of all, food shouldn't be allowed in a lecture. Second of all, if I saw someone doing it, I would ask them to stop, I would point out it was disgusting and rude and I would not consider this bad manners. I wouldn't insult their parents. Some folk can't be taught because they don't care to learn, doesn't mean no one ever tried to teach them. Again, I wouldn't say they were never taught, but I have made such remarks to strangers in the past, and I have had other strangers then make remarks to me along the lines of "go on, get him told" and "some folk have no manners, ay," Racism is wrong. No one should be made fun of for their skin colour. Or their gender or sexuality. This comes with the caveat that amongst friends it can be fine to disregard such boundaries. I often make jokes about lesbians to my best friend because she is one. I wouldn't say they same things to another lesbian I'd only just met. In regard to these things, it's generally not acceptable to mock things people didn't choose (skin colour, gender, sexuality) and mock things people did choose (dude, nice hat!) but where does that leave religion? Most people I know would take offence at being called a prude. A lot of my female friends, if you called them a slut, would agree and then try to drag you to bed. Maybe this is a locational thing.
  7. I've joined men's roller derby (I refuse to call it merby) and my fresh meat is a week on Friday. Never skated in my life, but really looking forward to this. I think. Any other derby players here?
  8. Despite the fact I can't cook and I couldn't find a recipe for all my ingredients, I made soup (using chicken, sweetcorn, onion, peas, carrots, broccoli, celery, cucumber, thyme, garlic) and it actually tastes really nice.
  9. Well, congrats on your speed vault. Your picking this stuff up fast. Must be good to have a local parkour gym
  10. Thanks, Grimm, but I currently have zero budget lol. Cheers HB, I've not checked out that site, but I will now.
  11. Thanks, these are some great ideas. I suck at cooking (which is not helpful) but I'm aiming to learn to cook at least one new thing each week, and I'd already decided soup was this weeks, so soup for breakfast sounds good. I do eat yoghurts (probably the reason I won't get to 100% paleo, I love yoghurts) but I haven't tried Greek ones. And thanks for the other ideas, they'll give me something to eat when I get sick of soup, which I will.
  12. Ha, that totally worked. Still only managed 3, but they were full pull ups, chin over the bar, held it for a second or two, and a smooth controlled descent. Thanks, thats great
  13. It's just out of my reach, like the tips of my fingers touch it when I stretch. I didn't even consider jumping to reach it, and I honestly have no idea why lol. I shall give that a try today and let you know if the jumping worked. Thanks
  14. Hi, so I was looking for some help with my pull ups. I've been doing the angry birds routine, and I completed the inverted rows in about a week and moved onto the pull ups. I can't manage a full pull up yet, I can get about halfway up. I only started them yesterday, and I managed just three. Now on the one hand I'm thinking if I keep doing this everyday and increase the pull ups I can do, it should enable me to get higher as well (as my strength increases). But on the other hand, I'm wondering what other options there are. Sadly reverse pullups aren't going to be possible, as I have to use a playpark some distance from my house and I don't drive so I'm not walking to the park with a stool everyday. Other than reverse pull ups, do I have any other options or should I just keep going with what I can do?
  15. You have cosplay as a life goal? That is so nerdy its awesome. I love cosplay (never done it, but love the pictures. People put so much effort into it.) And good luck asking someone out on a date. Sounds like its probably the hardest one on your list even writing a novel's easier, in my experience.
