  1. Me, too. I think salmon tastes great raw.
  2. Made turkey sausage and roasted fennel for dinner tonight. Just grilled the sausages (and serve with plum sauce). For the fennel, we slice into rounds, top with parmesan cheese, and bake at 400 degrees for 25 minutes.
  3. My level of fitness used to be pretty high, but I've only been working out a few times a week the last few months. I did strength training on Thursday night and I'm only slightly sore. But my favorite activity is snow shoveling, which I've gotten to do quite a bit of lately. Good news is that I got 9 hours of sleep last night (which helped make up for the deficit I had for the last several nights). And I'm down 1 lb from last Saturday.
  4. Hi, I've Dave. It's been a while since I've done a challenge. With the stress of changing jobs four times last year, eating right and working out consistently has fallen by the wayside. Quest for Consistency My goals for this challenge: Lose at least 1 lb per week every week. Get more of my calories from natural foods. (I'll share some healthy recipes during the challenge.) Body weight strength training 3x per week. I've developed by own program with two sets of Pushups, Squats, Pullups, and Revolving Planks. Cardio training every day (stationary bike, playing on the Wii, walking, shoveling snow, swimming, etc.) Work on getting 8 hours of sleep every night (I presently average around 6-7). I'm a veteran of the Rebellion. I know what to do. I just need to do it.
  5. Great thread! Never thought of making my own bacon. I keep a jar of bacon grease in the freezer. My main use for it is to saute brussel sprouts (with shallot, garlic, and chicken stock). I make them for my family at least once a week. My son calls them "special sprouts".
  6. Made another Julia Child recipe for dinner tonight. Christened my new Le Creuset cast iron dutch oven by making Beouf Bourguignon. Quite a bit of effort, but it was delicious! I used some Cabernet Sauvignon and shallots instead of white onions.
  7. End of challenge report... GOAL 1 - Fail. Only lost 4 lbs. Better luck next challenge. GOAL 2 - Pass. Walked 62 miles so far. GOAL 3 - Pass. Came up with six new recipes.
  8. 1 year later. Still logging a lot of miles on my bike (on CycleOps).
  9. Not the healthiest of meals, but I made mushroom chicken with stuffing for Valentines Day (with salad and breaded lobster bites). Today is my 1 year anniversary of joining NerdFitness.
  10. I made grilled orange ginger salmon tonight. Marinated the salmon in a ziplock with 1/4 cup orange juice, 1 Tbsp honey, 1 Tbsp soy sauce, 1 tsp grated ginger, and 1 tsp minced garlic. Then, grilled the salmon for about 10 minutes until flaky. Quick and delicious! Not making nearly as much progress on weight loss as I'd hoped (eating too much bad food on the weekends.). Currently 147 lbs. I've walked 53 miles since January 1st.
  11. Damn that's a lot of reading! My wife and I are reading the original Sherlock Holmes stories... but I've lapsed into just listening to them on LibriVox.

  13. Yet another new chicken recipe tonight. Plum Good Chicken Cooked 1 lb of chicken breasts and removed from pan. Then, I boiled a mixture of 2 Tbsp plum sauce, 1/4 cup chicken broth, 1 tsp garlic, 1 tsp ginger, 1 tsp balsamic vinegar. Then, added the chicken back to coat with sauce and cook a little longer. Garnish with chopped green onion. My 4 year old thought it was "Fantastic!".
  14. Thanks, german. Ate too much good food yesterday for my birthday (waffles, chicken tenders, ribs with corn casserole). So no progress on weight loss this week. Just did my most intense 11 minute workout ever! Tried spezzy's revolving planks of doom! Did 5 full rotations (30 seconds in each position). Killer!
  15. Still walking every day (even though it's bitterly cold out!). Made a new dinner tonight... Grilled teriyaki chicken with some Cauliflower Supreme. Pretty tasty.
