  1. I wonder if I could make a tuna casserole with Zucchini noodles?

  2. Checking in again! Updating my progress over the weekend and today. Eat a vegetable with one meal every day - 3/3 - Killing it with this one!Substitute one sugary coffee drink per day for black coffee or tea. - 3/3 - drinking a lot of water instead of soda. I did have one soda this weekend, but it was just one, and I didn't drink more than 1/4 of it. It's been a hard habit to give up, which is enlightening. Alton Brown said that soda was the hardest thing for him to give up, and the last thing he'll ever injest again.Participate an active social game, like frisbee or kickball, at least once a week (preferably with your family or friends who are also trying to get started!) - Once a week? Yes. But, you know, I'm just not into social sports, aside from dancing. If I do something every day, it'll have to be something different, something more meditative.Notorious for being late? Start with making Mondays special - on Mondays you are never late for anything. - I am doing the worst on this, but I'm still calling today a win, because I dropped off enrollment paperwork for my daughter before work today, even though it's the first day after the time change. And, I was no later to work than usual. :-P I'm not killing it, but I'm getting better.Floss at least 15 seconds each day - You guys, I know it's silly, but I'm really proud about this one. I went to the dentist last week, so flossing leading up to that was easy. I had the fear of dental side-eye in me. But flossing after the visit was over? Much harder. And I've done it! For the week since my dentist visit, I'd say 3/6 on this one. And it's a hard habit to form. Overall, I'm going to say I'm making medium progress. Which isn't perfect, but it's better than none. F*** it, I'm trying to let go of my perfectionism anyway. I'm on the right track.
  3. Following for the book edits - which I need to work on, too. (And the staff dancing, which looks so cool. So. Cool).
  4. I can't believe it took me this long to find the book thread. Fiction: I'm reading a very cute romance novel right now called "Dukes Prefer Blondes" by Loretta Chase. Very banter-filled, hero is clearly inspired by the BBC version of Sherlock. Audio: I'm re-reading the Harry Potter books as audiobooks, just finished Chamber of Secrets and am waiting on my library's copy of Prisoner of Azkaban. Non-Fiction: "Come as you Are" by Emily Nagoski which is amazingly useful to anyone with a vagina, or anyone who would like to interact with a vagina. One of the most useful "science of sex" type books I've ever read, though the fictional case studies are a bit annoying. On deck: "The Ballad of Black Tom" which looks like a mashup of a noir mystery and Lovecraft. It looks delicious.
  5. Rainbow Chard is really good in frittatas, and if you haven't braised thin-cut red cabbage in chicken stock and a tiny bit of balsamic and butter, you should try it. Both are even better if you add bacon. Edit to add: I posted this after reading only the first page of the thread. I've had that same problem with kale and eggs, which is why I was psyched to find out about rainbow chard. Also, good luck with that job!
  6. Baby steps: for the moment, I'm replacing all soda with Arnold Palmers (or plain tea, or water). Doing a great job on the Veggies - I think I've hit that every day. Flossing: still doing well! I've only missed a few days. It's starting to hurt less, which is a good sign. Fitness: Need to find a team game I can do with my 3-year-old in a small space. Chronic lateness: who thought that's where I would fall down? Not me. It seemed like the easiest. But I was late again today. Not beating myself up about it, just noting that this is more of a challenge than I thought. I thought the food stuff would be hard! But it's not.
  7. I am doing so well about flossing, guys!
  8. Coconut Milk or Dairy Milk?

  9. I think that's a fair question - the "walking at night" thing doesn't seem gendered on it's face. But after thinking about it for a few minutes, it reminded me of a year in my early 20's when I was working late hours, and I walked home from work between 11 and midnight. Or, I should say, I tried to. I lived in a busy downtown area, about ten blocks from where I worked. I didn't mind walking, I like walking at night. The neighborhood wasn't bad, but it wasn't good, either. I'm risk-adverse, but I knew that as long as I kept to the back streets, and had my mace handy, the risks were nearly identical to being out in the daytime. I couldn't afford a car, and this was reasonable. When my coworkers found out I was walking home, they wouldn't let me do it anymore. Every time I went to go home, someone would offer me a ride, and if no one was around to offer me a ride, someone would wait with me until the hotel shuttle was available and then make sure I took it. My own team of about five people worked on this, as well as four bellmen, the whole restaurant staff, and it was infuriating. And also very sweet. I can tell you, if anything bad happened to me, I would have been the first one blamed. For something as innocuous as walking down a sidewalk. This is something that just may not occur to a man. Ditto with "severely limited calories impeding weightless." Like the others, I can't say what the difference between the men's and women's programs are, but I do think that you've spotted some areas where it's clear that a man wrote the materials. Overall, I'm cool with that. I definitely don't feel pandered to or talked down to, which I find much more off-putting.
  10. Update: -Diet going well! On track. Eating palak paneer as I type. - Fitness going well, too! Went on a walk with my family yesterday, plan to kick a ball around with them later this week. -Level up your life: going sort of well. I wasn't on time today, but I have flossed more this week than in the prior year, so go me!
  11. On my mind: The salad bar at Whole Foods.

    1. Maggie-Miau

      Maggie-Miau

There's a Whole Foods opening in my city soon and I'm extremely excited for the salad bar; heard nothing but good things about them. ^_^

    2. JocelynLibrarian

      JocelynLibrarian

There's one right next door to my work, which is great! It's pricey, but it gets me excited to eat brocolli, so that's awesome.

  12. I just started here, and am going on my first epic quest! I cribbed it from the Sample Level 1 Revel Challenge. I'll build on that: Main Goal: Live longer by being healthier. Motivation: a have a 3-year-old, and that girl can outrun me. Baby steps: Diet Eat a vegetable with one meal every day Substitute one sugary coffee drink per day for black coffee or tea. Fitness Participate an active social game, like frisbee or kickball, at least once a week (preferably with your family or friends who are also trying to get started!) Level Up Your Life Notorious for being late? Start with making Mondays special - on Mondays you are never late for anything. Floss at least 15 seconds each day
