  1. Look into The Engine 2 Diet. It's amazing.
  2. I've never liked running. Read: because I sucked at it and would be a hot wheezing mess if I did. So I tried spin class. um...worse than running (which I didn't think possible) So I found the tool to help me. Nike+ transmitter in my shoe paired with my iphone. I now have a reason to run besides fitness - it tracks all my data so I can see what I am doing which allows me to challenge myself. Which the competitor in me loves. I used to only be able to run for a minute at a time before walking. today I ran 3.5k in 25 minutes. I am growing in my like of running. I am loving the way I feel after I do.
  3. I would like to join the guild too! My husband, on a whim, suggested Bikram yoga one day in January. I knew it was hot yoga, but that was all and I had never even done a regular yoga class. We loved it! It was hard, it was, hot, it was long, it was hard, it was good!! So we did 4 Bikram classes before we found CorePower Yoga - Hot Yoga Express 60 minute class nearby. It fit our schedules and the studio was huge and odorless - as opposed to our local Bikram which was really stinky. So we are newbies at yoga, but enjoy it a lot. I have a Shiva Rea Shakti DVD that I do when I can't get to a hot yoga class. We travel constantly for my husband's job - he is a project manager for industrial electrical projects. So we are always looking for a great place to do hot yoga or Bikram. My favorite pose is: camel pose - which made me see stars the first few times I did it. I am working on and would like to master: getting my head to my knee in any pose where it is supposed to be

    Umm...Hello?

Waving hello As a former low carber who lost 87 pounds doing it the wrong way - much like spezzy I was weak, and felt terrible. So I am doing something different now. I didn't gain back all of my weight since I made my goal of 145 back in 2005, but I gained back a lot. I am not here to debate whose plan is better or what works and what doesn't. My impression from what I read earlier today is that all Nerds are welcome here. So here I am We are following a plan we have created based on a lot of reading and research. What we do: plant-based - no animal products - this means meat, eggs, dairy, fish, poultry etc. whole foods - as little packaged/processed goods as possible. no added fats - to us, on our plan, this means: no expelled/pressed/processed oils, margarine substitutes, vegan mayo we do eat: fruits, veggies, whole grains, potatoes, rice, whole wheat pasta, beans, avocados, tofu and a few 'products' like Gimme Lean Sausage, certain breakfast cereals, soy milk, Tofurky Deli Slices on occasion. This works for us. It is changing our lives in the same ways as the Paleo plan has changed others. It's work, it requires thought and planning and education just the same. I am excited to be part of a community of people here at NF, and in the same larger community as Brendan Brazier, Rip Esselstyn, Mac Danzig and others that decided to do something different. It doesn't so much matter the specifics of the plan that works for you, just as long as you have one.
  5. Happy Herbivore Real Food Daily Cookbook The Engine 2 Diet I also follow the blog - Happy. Healthy. Life http://kblog.lunchboxbunch.com/
  6. My husband went Vegetarian (with no eggs) after working as an electrician on a commercial poultry operation 8 years ago. It completely wrecked animal products for him. The living conditions and such were horrible. When we met I was a carnivore, who tried to be vegetarian, who gained weight by eating badly. He had a scare last summer at age 43, he thought was a heart attack, it wasn't - he had walking pneumonia. It scared him. His mom died of heart trouble when she was 43. We looked into the Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease book/plan by Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn Jr. - we having been following a plant-based whole foods (without added fats) nutrition plan since the first of the year. We've also added a serious amount of fitness as part of our plan. We've never felt better. I don't call it Vegan, even though it is. The political connotations that go with the 'V' word bother me. My sister is Vegan, she tends to preach about it, which drives me nuts. We feel great, cook better/eat better than we ever have on a plan we feel is sustainable to us.
