  1. It's good to see that the Eating Skills book is still causing growth. The book is more involved than these things usually are. Typically it's: read it through once, go over a couple pertinent sections over the next week, then mostly forget about it except for a minute once a month. 😅
  2. I find them strangely uplifting. The darker and crueller the world gets, the more faith he develops in himself and in people.
  3. Thanks everyone. The previous week had me catastrophizing the simple event of needing new jeans. (It still feels sucky though, I hate jean shopping here! The store brands don't look good on me and the store that carries boutique brands doesn't carry anything my current size.) Still no exercise. Tomorrow is a day off so I'll dig up my garden beds for winter and get a trail run in. Food is better but I'm still getting randomly light headed. Definitely over the urge to crash diet (thanks NFers). Missed my routines yesterday because I was exhausted (still not sleeping) and then worked late. Did them today. Also I downloaded the latest Dresden Files book today and finished it in one sitting.
  4. The Fran jeans look awesome! I prefer to try on jeans before buying but at least I know there are better options out there. Right now I'm a little thicker around the waist so it's not a problem. Normally jeans have huge waist gap. Or show an unacceptable amount of butt cleavage.
  5. Thanks everyone. It took more out of me than I expected, and neither my husband nor myself are sleeping well yet. But I think we've got the last of the smoke out of the furniture and carpets. Dragging around furniture and the carpet cleaner has been my exercise these past two days. We are trying to stop mulling over how we could have done things differently since everything turned out fine. As of last night I am back on track with my routines and eating skills. Speaking of eating skills, my thighs rubbing have worn a hole in the only pair of jeans that still fitted me. So now my choices are a) go spend money and time trying to find another pair of fat jeans to last me until I can fit back in my old jeans. b) wear sweats, scrubs, and hiking pants for the next three months. c) crash diet to get back in my own damn jeans. The correct answer should be a or b, but I may need some assistance in not falling into c... because as of right now I didn't eat breakfast and wasn't going to eat lunch except I got dizzy and my husband made me. The whole thighs-wearing-a-hole-through-my-fat-jeans thing is making me feel awful about my weight. Patience is not happening like I promised it would.
  6. Well I apparently have not been doing enough sprint practice. My husband called while I was at work that our condo building has a fire, the room was filling with smoke, and our delboy freaked out when he was trying to get him into his travel cage and flew away. My work is a 10 minute walk away - I let the doctors know I was leaving and sprinted home to help find the boy. Yes we found him (down the train tracks and luckily there wasn't a train) and he recognized me and let me catch him. And the firefighters put out the fire before there was any major damage to the building. But that was 3 hours ago and my heart still hurts from that one short sprint. So I got my run workout in I guess.
  7. Popping in to say it's still going well, though not perfectly. This week I'm getting good at Doing The Thing even if I don't feel like it and aren't seeing immediate results. I'm having to remind myself daily that instant gratification is not what I'm about. The news is stressful recently and it's affecting me, so my apologies that my participation here is dropping off. Thinking of everyone though and hoping your challenge is going well!
  8. 7 months will get you there if you stay healthy and consistent! Do you have a training plan written out, or going more by feel?
  9. It seems likely. I think my form is okay... Maybe I'm not snapping upright with enough speed.
  10. Mulligan Week - Tuesday Another good day. I fitnessed and ate vegetables and did most of the things on my chore list. That last one is a win because I consistently over-estimate what I can accomplish in a day and usually hit 30-50%. There is now food and clean laundry and a slightly reduced recycling pile. I picked the last two pumpkins in my pumpkin patch, along with some fresh parsley for shrimp scampi. There was an opened bottle of white in the fridge and making scampi is a good excuse to drink while cooking. My morning and night routines have picked up like they never left. For some reason the Eating Skills program isn't stressing me out this week. I think talking it over with @Elastigirl helped. Breakfast was larger than usual and kept me feeling okay for 4 hours. I didn't like some of my lunch and the rest of the day dissolved into (healthy!) snacking. This week has a veggie focus so I am keeping cut cucumber/carrots and individual hummus containers in the fridge to add on to any meal short on veggies. I also caved and bought salad dressing - I prefer my own, but there are many times I skip the salad because I don't feel like making the dressing. Thanks to NF I still have access to Prime, and decided to work through the chin-up challenge as part of my at-home program. It's fun! Kettlebells are a bit of a problem. I am currently adding KB swings at the end of my workout, and the 20 lb is too heavy. That doesn't seem right; my deadlift is around bodyweight so I must have okay hinging strength. It'll come with practice.
  11. Mulligan Week - Monday My mother was delivered to my sister's over the weekend and I don't go back to work until Wednesday, so I went hiking today. Fall is in the air and it was a nice crisp day for a jaunt up a mountain to see the larches. Our wind has shifted and the smoke from the US fires mostly dissipated, and the views were lovely. I climbed up Sulphur mountain and I'm pleased to say that I can still get to the top without needing a rest break. Tomorrow will have to be a chore catch up day. Random disjointed thoughts on gamifying fitness:
  12. Using game theory to motivate for the win - what NFers already embrace! It's fun to read different people's take on it.
  13. Seconded. One of the best scheduling advice I've gotten is to write down the things you think of when you think of them. Then write into your schedule a time when you would be best able to look into them. Ex. You think you'd like to join a swim club, and having to decide whether you can or should is another source of anxiety. So pick a date when things will have settled, ex. the second weekend in February. Write on your schedule "research swim clubs?" Now you let it go until the date. It's still going to be looked at so you don't need to worry that you are passing anything up, and you don't have it stressing you out now.
  14. Yes. Our bathroom. We can use the general patient/public one.
  15. Mulligan. Thinking I would do anything on my target routine while my mom was here was pure silliness. It was a very productive week for her and we got to do lots of visiting with my sister, so a good week non-challenge wise. I probably won't be going over to visit my sister's family for a while now. We just got word they are putting a symptomatic covid testing site at my work. So that the infectious people don't mingle with regular patients, they will be using the lab staff entrance and the testing room will be beside our locker room, and they'll be using our bathroom. Thanks whomever thought this one through. So I am expecting to be exposed and am not willing to bring that to others and am going on an indefinite self-imposed semi quarantine.
  16. Here it is kettlebells that are inflated. Bikes you can get.
  17. Bike enthusiasts: my bil is buying a touring bike and neither of us know enough to understand reviews. He's looking at the Morrison T 3.0 (he lives in Germany). Can anyone take a look and say if it looks decent? It would be mostly on road with a bit of gravel or dirt, rides up to 20k or so. Thanks! It's a little awkward yet flattering that he asks me for advice on anything involving fitness.
  18. Good start, and stay strong resisting temptation! It will be cute to have Scraps growing up in your progress pics.
  19. Following! Wait, wrong silver ranger... My gif hunting skills need work.
  20. Have you explored the area around your new home yet? Is it very far from where you live now?
  21. I beg to differ. I know next to nothing about American football, but the last game that I was roped into watching, my friend and I picked our team based soley on how sparkly gold their pants were.
  22. Thanks, that helps with some of them but it is a real sticking point on fasting 4-6 hours between meals! Thoughts copied from my Eating Skills log below. Scout's honour, I am!
  23. Zero Week 2/3 runs completed. Evening routine mostly followed. Morning routine mostly missed because I'm waiting on my shipment of matcha tea and can't get going without it. 2/3 at home short strength sessions. It's been a bit shaky emotionally this week but I've been doing okay with following through anyway. Eating Skills is still a work in progress. I'm having trouble treating the guidelines like rules which is not what I'm supposed to do. My mother arrives tonight. I plan on sticking with the challenge while she's here.
