  1. First off....thank you for your service. Mad respect. Secondly welcome to NF! I hear ya on the bodybuilding site. I felt like I was a middle school girl trying to make the super bowl football team. Since I have no real use for a nut cup I chose this place. Good look on your quest!
  2. Side note. Just the other night I pushed myself and felt sick. When I was in Muay Thai there was a gal doing a black belt test for karate class. They had a bucket. And yes. That's what it was for.
  3. I weigh but it's more of a small piece to a big puzzle. My favorite article about the scale is from nerd fitness actually. Where Steve compares himself at the same weight but with different looks. The last I got fit I wasn't at goal but I was fit and thin (for me). I was doing push-ups off my toes, lifting and running. I was also 170 lbs. and I was in better shape then when I was 140 and a slave to the scale and focusing on that number. I'll take the 170 and strength/firm body any day!
  4. Ha my mouth is more likely to do battle. And if that doesn't work my death glare gets a point across too. Duly noted on the basement!
  5. Welcome Bob! I'm new here too and I have had those same convos with myself. At lot of people probably have. What's important is you are starting! We all start somewhere. In a few weeks you will probably be thinking of what you have accomplished more than feeling sick and tired!
  6. Ha well that arse was 3 yrs ago. Now I have a non-arse man who doesn't have a secret life and GF 90 miles away. Thanks for the welcome and warrior tip! I'm still getting the lay of the land here.
  7. Hey Bob...I've had those same conversations with myself as well. I think a lot of us have. You are not alone. You are doing a great thing. You are putting action to it and we all have to start somewhere. If you keep it up, in a couple months or less you will be thinking about your achievements instead of feeling sick and tired!
  8. Well the arse was 3 yrs ago so it's all good these days. I have a non-arse man that doesn't have a secret life and GF 90 miles away. Thanks for the welcome and warrior tip. Still getting the lay of the land here.
  9. I hear ya. I'm not a fan of gyms personally. Ive been successful several times over the years by working out on my own. What works for someone else may not be a fit for you and vice versa. My advice is to do whatever workouts you will enjoy enough to keep doing. That's key. Doing a workout type that you don't like is just another hurdle. I tend to enjoy things more when I start to see their results so try different things and you will eventually find a workout that will fit you both for enjoyment and results. Same with diet. Simple start is good. You can always build from there. Gotta start somewhere! (Don't recommend the couch). Pale I isn't for me but I try to pick natural foods when I can. I do basic calorie deficit and monitor macro goals for diet. I have spreadsheet that calculates my BMR, TDEE, deficits etc. But I'm a numbers geek so they keep me on track. For workouts I tend to mix it up since I can get bored with routine. I do weights, DVDs that work strength, sometimes I run just for kicks. Well I try to anyway. It's more walk/run but I'm working on it. I like it the least but burn out is the end of me so I try to avoid it at all costs. Plus I just like to be a jerk to myself once in a while for all those couch days.
  10. Hello fellow fitness nerds! I'm Deana. (Like Deena, not DeAnna like many assume) Some peeps tend to shorten it online to De. I never quite got that but whatever works! I've been reading the NerdFitness articles over the last couple of years. They are some of my favorite articles. Only recently did I take a peek into the basement and realize there was a party going on down there. So typical. Late to the party again. Ok maybe it's more like forums and challenges but anything can be a party if you do it right. All you need is your sassy pants. (They are very different than MC Hammer pants. Just for clarification.) The problem is my sassy pants are currently around an 18. This isn't my first fitness rodeo. I've actually lost anywhere from 30-40 lbs of Mickey D's and pizza a few times over the years. (I'm 46): Weight watchers/walking (pre wedding) Cardio classes/running (post kids) Muay Thai (post divorce) 8 week competition at gym (trainers were NOT impressive) But in 2011 I got into weights and did the program Supreme 90 day. ($20 and I loved it! I still do some of the DVDs). At the point I had finally reached the point where I could do pushups off my toes. I felt like a bada$$. For me seeing and feeling the strength of my body was almost better than the smaller sassy pants though I totally loved the heck out of those too. Hello...it gave me an excuse to shop! Problem was I get burned out or in "maintenance mode" where I eat more and then get all confident because of no gains. By the time I start regaining, I didn't feel much like "starting over". So every few years or so I get sick of where I am (cough cough...here I am). The last time I had just broken up with a pathological liar I dated for 6 years. I was so glad to be free that I just enjoyed life a tad too much (nights out eating and drinking with friends). I tried to count his 195lbs as a loss but it turns out it didn't affect my pants size like I'd had hoped. So there is my weakness. I know how to do it. Can find the will and the motivation once I get started. But after getting started being the hardest part....making it stick as a lifestyle is the second hurdle. For me anyway. That's where this place and you all come in. (wink wink) Every time I have gotten back into fitness I have gained more knowledge. NerdFitness has helped a lot with that knowledge. I have tossed aside the "cardio only" routine and have embraced workouts that work on strengthening. Turns out...I really like it!! High 5 muscles! So here I am...ready to partake on a new adventure and hoping to meet some fellow fitness nerds that keep me on track and help challenge me. But not the arm wrestle kind because I would totally lose that. We can try that a few months down the road. I need to lift some heavy things a few times first then "challenged accepted". I want to shop for new clothes people. Let's get on it. Peace out
