  1. Sil checking in. 7.5 minutes! But... err... That time now seems really puny now compared to the rest of you crazy folks. o_o!
  2. Ugh planks. I actually love them but I kinda suck at them still. lol Introduction: I'm Gina/Sil. Just turned 31 yesterday (*groan*). I'm an artist/photographer hoping to someday "go pro" in at least one of those areas. I'm also a gamer spending too much time playing WoW and other time killers. I'm Puerto Rican/Dominican raised partly in New York and Fort Worth, TX and currently back in the D/FW mid-cities after spending a couple of years in Indiana.... What else? Oh I recently started paleo and weight training and loving both. I hope I can improve my planking time and not bring the squad down. ^^; This summer I look forward to looking a little better in a bathing suit than last summer. lol AprilMay: Welcome to Fort Worth! I'm sure it's quite a change from Canada. Have you spent much time here? If not, I hope you're ready to cope with the summer heat. hehe Also, I noticed you're doing the Paleo/Primal thing. I know of a grass-fed farm that has beef/pork/lamb and does home deliveries every couple of weeks to these areas if you're interested in that sort of thing. http://burgundypasturebeef.com/public_home.php (<-- Seriously awesome goodness.)
  3. Also: This I imagine it'd be super tasty even if you didn't add the ground beef and threw in some bell peppers and mushrooms instead.
  4. Thank you all of you! And yeah "Future Me" has become the drill sergeant in my head. Me: *whine* I don't wanna do another reverse crunch. T_T Future Me: >_< Do it for me you lazy bum!! D:< Me: Okay Future Me! :s *Does 5 more reverse crunches* The idea that future me can kick my butt keeps me going. lol (I'm not crazy I swear. haha)
  5. Top 5 of all time? 0.o That's tough. #1 Castlevania: Symphony of the Night without question. Love it as much as I ever did when it was new. The rest in no particular order: Demon's Souls Silent Hill (the 1st one) Final Fantasy (any really but with a preference toward 3 & 9) Tekken Tag Aaaaand Bust a Groove! Because I loved it so much I feel bad leaving it off the list even though it makes 6. >.< (The rhythm game, predecessor to DDR not to be mistaken with Bust a Move)
  6. Oh hello there folks! Nice to meet all of you. And ugh speaking of Cadbury Eggs why must they put them right at the checkout counter?! >.< I had to exercise some hard core resistance in order to move past them like they weren't there. Thankfully my big heap of veggies were there as a reminder. Phew.
  7. I'd like to add (on the subject of nitrates) that we consume way more nitrates in veggies than we do bacon. "Nitrate-free" or "No added Nitrates" is a loop hole companies use because during the curing process they add celery juice instead, which is, consequently, chock full of nitrates. I've also read that Vitamin C & E counter the negative effects of nitrates as well as not over cooking your bacon. Also, nitrates kill botulism so there's a risk of that too. So many things have toxins in them that we'd go crazy and starve if we followed everything we're told. Food companies aren't always truthful and so many studies are financially backed by companies that have their own interests. We're all so very different from one another that I'm not sure there's a "right" answer for what works for an entire population as big as our species. I recently saw an interview with a healthy man who was turning 100 and something and when they asked him his health secret he laughed and said he ate bacon every day of his life.
  8. Woot 1: I've been faithfully keeping up with my M/W/F workouts even on days when I really, really, reeeeally don't want to. I force myself to at least warm up because something is better than nothing and before I know it I've gone through my circuits and am swimming in sweat. lol Woot 2: Yesterday was my first workout with dumbbells and holy woah am I sore today. I've discovered muscles I didn't know I had and I think I grew some new ones. haha xD Every time I move, it hurts. But in an awesome -my muscles are screaming at my fat to go away- kinda of way. I can't wait to meet myself a year from now. Future me looks awesome and healthy from here. <3
  9. Thank you and lol that would be awesome! I want to some day be able to pull off a Zatanna cosplay myself. Don't know that I'd have the nerve but I want to have the option. xD Thanks!
  10. So I've noticed! It's the first fitness community I've found that I don't feel incredibly out of place in from what I've seen so far. And thank you. :3
  11. Silvernia taps lands and summons Wall of Text! 20/20 I made my first post joining the challenge thread but I thought I'd introduce myself a bit more thoroughly. I've been diligently lurking for a while and thought it was time to come out of hiding. I am Gina and friends call me GinaBug or Sil or... you know... just Gina. 30y/o about to turn 31 this month, ugh. I found nerd fitness after stumbling across a pin on Pinterest of a girl named Crissy... Which led me to her Tumblr, which led me to here. Specifically one of Steve's posts on Paleo. After reading it and then googling and reading some more, I was hooked! <3 This was just short of 3 weeks ago. 2 or so weeks ago I tentatively brought it up to my SO who I was sure would never go for it (giving up bread and cheese?! *legasp!*)... But having led in with a lot of the science behind grains/carbs/gluten/inflammatories/etc seemed to make a lot of sense to him so I was shocked when he actually seemed to be into the idea. 0.o So I struck up a deal with him. I'd get up early with him every day and make breakfast (even if just boiling a few eggs) if we could try the 30 day Paleo challenge. This was quite the promise as I am notoriously not an early riser due to terrible insomnia caused by a mind that starts racing when my head hits the pillow. And he said okay! That same weekend we stocked up on veggies, stashed our beans and rice bags out of sight and ate up the last couple of breakfast bowls to get rid of them (and as a goodbye to cheese and potatoes). Frankly I was sick of eating rice every day so that part hasn't been remotely hard. Going into week 3 and I'm roughly 10 pounds lighter and have dropped below a certain dreaded number on the scale that at my diminutive 5'2 is just shameful and I will reveal someday closer to my goal but today is not that day! xD But to that number I say: I quit you! Never again! And I'm reading The Paleo Solution. Good stuff. I've been working out consistently 3 times a week which considering it hasn't been that long I'm amazed at how my endurance is improving. I've already been able to move up to harder versions of the easier modifications (ie I can manage a good set of knee pushups after having started with easier inclined ones in the beginning. yipee!). Also I've actually been falling asleep in a regular manner. In fact the last few nights we've gone to bed... Early. 0.o Without me kicking and screaming. (This is a huge deal) And I just spring out of bed when it's breakfast making time. lol Oh and I haven't felt at all foggy throughout the day like I normally would getting up early. Oh gosh I'm rambling... What else... I'm an aspiring photographer and/or illustrator (My avatar was done by me). Puerto Rican/Dominican (amongst other mixes) Also a gamer (Aion, WoW, Marvel vs Capcom, Demon's Souls, Tekken...) though it has taken somewhat of a back seat as I've been dedicating my free time to straightening out my health. On pause but not forgotten. Aaaaannd there's more but I've gone on too much. Wall of Text has First Strike and can attack when summoned. *Whack!* You die. TLDR: I'm Sil and Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!
  12. >.> <.< A wild Silvernia appears! Hello out there! :3
