  1. Hey, guys. Sorry for the lateness of my reply. I got that from the book Bigger Leaner Stronger by Mike Matthews. He cited a scientific study or three in the book. It basically came down to, the more fat you have, the easier it is to get fat and the harder it is to build muscle. So do it low. I think that's why he said 10%. I'm still cutting. I'm at about 18% right now. So I still have a way to go, but I'm totally seeing progress so I decided to put in my two cents.
  2. I can help you out with this question, Chris. Regarding whether to cut or bulk. Cut until you are down to 10% and bulk until you are 15%. That's the short answer. The more fat you have the less sensitive to insulin your body becomes. That means you will neither build muscle nor lose fat as efficiently. That's why it is said to be best to do your body work between 10 and 15 percent body fat. Other than that, make sure you eat about 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight per day, restrict your calories to a 20% deficit of your daily energy expenditure for losing fat, and do a program that hits the four major lifts (squats, deadlifts, military press, benchpress) once a week, your abs three times a week, and you should be pretty good. That's like a summarized version of what you would be doing anyway. Does that help you at all?
  3. The way to go about adding more weight is to do a rep range instead of a single rep number. So instead of 15 you would do a range of 15-18. If you are able to do 18, you add a bit of weight for the next set. Now the thing about your rep range is that even if you can do 18 reps, it doesn't mean that you'll definitely be able to do 15 at the next higher weight. I do 4 to 7 rep range. The orthodox range is 4 to 6 but I fear of adding weight too soon as well. So I go for 7. If I can do 7, I can usually do 4 on the next level of weight. I don't know what your goals are but if they include losing fat, increasing strength, or building muscle, 4 to 6 or 8-10 rep ranges will do you way better. And you can extend them to 4-7 and 8-11 like I do, if you'd like. I hope that helps! Good luck!
  4. Sup, Whumpertin? Just thought I'd share my gym routine, since you posted yours. I'm doing 6 or 7 rounds of 5 reps of the following. Deadlifts - 60kg. Upright Presses - 30kg. Pull-ups - half my weight (I weigh 75kg.) I have my doubts sometimes about the 5x5 style because it doesn't take very long to do at all. I do get tired but it's over in like 30 minutes. Am I really getting buff in that short of a time? Once you get that gym habit set stuff will be awesome for you!
  5. Hey, Nilton. It sounds like you're hitting the fitness pretty hardcore. Supplements and the Ketogenic diet and EVERYTHNG! Good job. The cool thing about your case is that, even once you've hit 110kg., You'll have probably lost a lot more than 6 kg. of fat because it sounds like you're going to be gaining mad muscles, bro!
  6. CJ, you are kicking ass with your challenges. After a month of 6 day-per-week training, you'll probably see a LOT of progress. I'm cheering for you!
  7. Bah! I haven't actually gone off the diet, but I've sorta cheated and I'll post what I ate in an attempt to not eat them again. I had a glass of milk with a TON of non-dairy creamer. It contains corn syrup. Can't eat that again. I ate a whole apple with an ENTIRE JAR of peanut butter. The ingredients in the peanut butter are peanuts and nothing else but still, that is a LOT of calories!
  8. This is a thread inspired entirely by laziness. Because I want to encourage others, but I don't want to navigate through lots of people's different threads. So Why don't we all post our challenges and encouragement to each other in this one thread. Here are my challenges for the next four weeks. You'd think creating a show to play at the biggest music festival in Japan would be the most difficult thing, but I have NO FREAKING IDEA how to find a freaking charity. Upon searching for "Charity Niigata" in Japanese nothing that is actually based in Niigata came up. So perhaps I'd need to find an individual instead of a charity. I've also walked all around my area at night and cannot find a single homeless person. This is inconvenient. . .
  9. What's up, Spider? I'm doing Gym workout 3B (I think) from the Academy. It's the one with lunges, upright presses, and chin ups. I still can't do a chin up of my full body though. I've gotta be able to do it pretty soon though because I've lost some weight. I'm probably losing muscle too, though. So who knows if my arms are actually getting any stronger. Yeah, unless you live in Japan, you've likely not heard of it. Japan is pretty tight about making sure nobody uploads their TV programs to YouTube. It's a four-hour show and it's amazing. Literally EVERY big musical act plays on it. But they also had the PPAP guy on there as well. Ridiculous. Hahaha! I'm thinking of doing something death metal. I still have to brainstorm. I already have a freaking amazing idea. I need people to make a video of it though.
  10. Here is my 4-week challenge for January of 2017. This year I plan on doing some amazing things! I spent over two hours working on my goals for this year. That top one is insane. Kouhaku is the biggest music show in all of Japan. It's on NHK every New Year's Eve. Watching the 2016 one got me all excited and thinking that I could totally be on that stage. I must be outta my mind but I'm going to go for it anyway. First step is to create my act. Let's get everything we want in 2017!

  12. Without being there or really knowing exactly what your situation is, I would say that your physical therapy is a good starting place since it's challenging but possible. In the case of strength training, you could always start super light until you feel comfortable with adding a little weight. Or you could try easier versions of bodyweight exercises. But all of this is coming from a person who is largely ignorant of your situation. I have confidence that there IS a way to get you strong and loving life again.

  14. Are you not interested in doing strength training. If you did your PT 3 times a day that would be 36 minutes a day, right? If you did squats and knee push ups for starters you'd probably spend only 30 minutes every two days and I imagine the effect would be far greater. I've only read a few of the posts here, so hopefully post isn't completely irrelevant.
  15. I found that drinking a half liter of water takes up a nice portion of my stomach space.
