  1. Wow, thank you! This is EXACTLY what I was looking for (and Google was of no help!) Thank you fellow rebel!
  2. Ive been consistently GAINING weight, and as an 'obese' person, I'm quite concerned.
  3. Can anyone recommend any yoga books? Im not looking for instructional books on how to perform poses, but more books that explain the history of yoga, the phrases and yogic language etc. Thanks Druids!
  4. This is my first challenge and I am a week late already! I joined crossfit last week after having more than 6 months off of training. I am looking forward to this challenge to get back on track! My main quest: Find a healthy balance between University, health and fitness and parenting! Goal #1: Study for at least 2 hours each day. Goal #2: Complete 3x crossfit classes and 1x yoga session each week. Goal #3: Remove processed food from my diet 5x days per week minimum. Goal #4: Go on an epic family adventure each weekend !
  5. Hey team, I am hoping someone can have a look at my eating and tell me where I could do better. When I cook I am cooking for both myself and my husband and my five year old son. Breakfast: I will have either 2 slices of rye bread with 1/4 avocado and two poached eggs, or greek yogurt with protein powder stirred through and some berries, or protein oats with berries. Lunch: Generally a salad of mixed salad leaves, roast pumpkin and capsicum and oven baked or grilled chicken (about 1/2 a breast), topped with some pepitas, sesame seeds and sunflower seeds. Sometimes I will have leftovers from dinner (see Dinner options below). Dinner: A few different things we alternate between. Stuffed sweet potatoes (mexican flavoured mince with veggies, scooped into half a med/lg sweet potato topped with a little cheddar cheese), spaghetti bolognese (mince with crushed tomatoes and veggies, some stock and served on spelt pasta [50g dry]), chicken curries (chicken breast, curry paste, coconut milk and bulk veggies served with rice). Snacks: At the moment I'm trying not to snack but when I get a sweet craving I've been having a handful of strawberries. Liquids: One coffee in the morning (no sugar, dash of full cream milk), and 3+ litres of water a day. Exercise: 5x crossfit classes a week, 1x yoga class per week and on weekdays I walk to and from my sons school in the AM and PM (6kms total - about an hour to an hour and a half of walking) Any advice would be great! These just seem to be meals that suit my family and we have become comfortable cooking. Thank you!
  6. So! Week one of crossfit done! I told myself, having been away from a gym for more than 6 months, that I'de be happy with two crossfit sessions and a yoga class. I underestimated how much I would ENJOY crossfit, I ended up going to 4 crossfit classes and did two yoga classes at home. WINNING! I must admit, this is some kinda soreness! After two days of no crossfit, I am feeling better and ready to go back! Thank you all for the encouragement!
  7. @Endor i am signing up tomorrow morning but just found this email from my enquirer late last year “Hi Jessica The Foundations is $180 for the month, but won't run until early next year.I'm thinking of changing the way we run it, but can let you know as it comesaround if you like? Our normal membership is $80 direct debit, but no lock in contracts or capped sessions. We don't enforce the Foundations so if you'd like to come in for a tryplease just let me know!!Kaye”
  8. Ah I love this thread!!! Thank you all for replying. I went in today and did my my first session and I’m already hooked. The people were wonderful, the coach was fantastic and the vibe was just amazing. Definitely joining!
  9. Thank you @Drake Alexander that is a very good piece of advice! At the moment I am eating intuitively, which seems maintainable
  10. I believe so, all level one certified at a minimum. I don’t know what would be classed as good or bad, I like to think as a PT myself I’d be able to spot a dud or bad form advice or whatnot. Not keen on copping an injury because of bad coaching this is is their site (it’s terribly messy and unorganised but has all their info) https://www.kalactive.com.au/
  11. Crazy isn’t it?! Very small family run box as well. I’m pretty stoked with their prices! Plus they run a yoga class on the weekend, free child minding etc. can’t really go wrong, can I?!
  12. @Endor that is a great perspective! I’ve considered doing the two week free trial at F45 but have a feeling I will love it and it is not a financially viable option at the moment ($60 p/week vs $80 p/month at the crossfit box here). I will definitely try both, even if I start at the box and move to F45 when we are in a better financial situation (mum of one and full time uni student - tough!). Thank you you for your advice, I really appreciate it
  13. Thank you @DarK_RaideR I love that the workouts are scalable. I’ve been watching crossfit you tubers since the 2017 open and it looks like something I’d enjoy! @Endor my surgery was bladder/bowel/uterus (tumor removal via laparoscopy). I am in Australia, a small town on the edge of the Nullarbor plain with limited options (crossfit, F45, one lifestyle gym and two chain gyms).
  14. I’ve recently moved to a new town and I haven’t made any training friends yet. Because of this I quickly got bored at a regular gym. The classes were repetitive and the weights room was dull and not well equipped. I’ve had a look into a few options but the one that stands out the most is the local crossfit box. I have a background in weight training and am a qualified personal trainer however I had surgery 6 months ago and have not trained since. I’ve literally sat on my butt and gained weight feeling sorry for myself. I’d consider myself to be at a beginners fitness and strength level and that’s the only deterrent I have at the moment. Will I look like a fool?! Thanks in advance rebels!
  15. Ugh why do I keep falling off the bloody wagon?! Backstory - 125kgs (275lbs) in February 2013. 72kgs (160lbs) in November 2014. Engaged in October 2015, moved in with hubby to be. By September 2016 I was 90kg (198lbs). Got married in October 2017. Jumped on the scales this week after years of neglect and am back up to 102kgs (225lbs). I dont want want to get to 72kgs again, as I was severely restricting my eating and training twice a day five days a week. Looking for a happy mid point. Am comfortable and content between 78 and 85kgs so ultimately I’d like to be back there. Hello to my fellow respawners! Let’s hope it sticks this time!
  16. How would a mid twenty year old nerdy introverted mum make friends in a new town? I honestly don't have any hobbies besides the gym. I study online full time and rarely have time to leave the house. My son has just started kindergarten so I'm hoping to meet some mums that way. I like talking to people online as well. I spend a lot of time on my computer, so it's a lot easier than meeting people in real life! Any suggestions?!
  17. Thank you so much! When I was at my peak I was a single mum with a LOT going on and the gym was my way of dealing with it. I lost more than 100lbs and 'found myself' which ultimately led to me finding my wonderful fiance. I managed to maintain weight until we (recently) moved in together. Without my family's help with the little one I've just struggled to get to the gym. Baby steps! Wedding is in May next year - I will be at a healthier weight then. If we are being truly honest - my lowest weight was not my most comfortable. I found I had to be SO strict to stay there, and I missed out on a lot. Sitting 5 - 10lb higher is where I am happy. So I'd like to lose this 20lb and find my health, happiness and strength again. By the way - this community is AMAZING!
  18. Diet goals are ON-POINT! My snacking has been great - I recently discovered green apples and natural peanut butter *drool* and I've discovered a love for a good quality black coffee, which has been my pre-workout of choice lately too. Workout goals are getting there. Strength training is not a problem - but cardio is my downfall! I can't see me completing this challenge. I may alter it to 'try and run, when you can'. Life stresses just mean that I can't make this a priority - maybe something to think about for the next challenge. Level Up Your Life goal is slightly lacking. I don't say anything bad about myself any more, but I need to actively work on the good. I want to find something little EVERY DAY. Today I think I look pretty alright in our new work uniform Going to try get back on track now. Life is just a terrible excuse.
  19. I am an aspiring writer! I have never finished a novel, let alone a short story. I write snippets. I'd love to finish a book one day.
  20. How many times can one woman re-spawn?! I'm absolutely gutted but my regular 5 day split just isn't going to work. I need to be realistic and realistic says I was 30lb lighter and at my peak fitness when this program worked for me. I have spent the last four months being an absolute gutter sloth! I can not just jump straight back into what I was doing. I did one of the NFA workouts today and decided I actually really enjoyed it, so I'm going to try stick to that plan! SO! Bye bye to my previous goals. Here is my little re-spawn. My NEW short term goals: Drink 2 litres of water daily Make at least 2 of 3 meals healthy Meditate once a day for 10 minutes Complete my NFA workouts 3 times a week Doing something physical every day - yoga counts! Weigh myself fortnightly on a Wednesday I still want to stick to a points system - refreshed! 1 point if I consume 2 litres of water in a day 1 point for each meal that is healthy 1 point for each day I meditate 1 point for each day I workout BONUS POINTS! Each fortnight I weigh in I will get a bonus 10 points for a loss, but I will lose 10 points if I gain weight. My rewards system will be based on points! Every 100 points I will reward myself with a small non-food reward. When I hit the big 500 points, and 1000 points I will treat myself to a super awesome BIG reward! So I am going to get new start weights and body fat (as per fitbit scales) tomorrow.
  21. 3 points today I got my workout in, drank my 3 litres of water and had one good paleo meal. I really need to work on my meditating. That will be my next step. Im also considering changing my paleo meal idea to just general 'healthy' or 'health conscious' meals. I feel my dinner tonight was point worthy but I had a small amount of pearly cous cous which means it wasn't paleo. Sigh. TOTAL: 15 points
  22. Haha that is exactly what I'm wearing at this moment!! Today I didn't have any snacks or sugary drinks so no need to substitute. I did buy myself some good coffee so I can start to enjoy black coffee. I've decided black coffee will be my pre-workout choice now too rather than chemically yuk stuff that makes me feel funky haha I was at the gym at 4:45am today to get in a good solid weights session! I decided today I like the colour of my eyes. Winning!
  23. Got a quick weights session in today, swapped a soda for a black coffee and told myself I had great sense of style when I was getting ready to face the day! Baby steps!!
  24. Today's gym effort was pretty dismal. Tried to put my son in the crèche but he wasn't a fan so I was cut short quite a bit. Still got it done! Alternating curls 5kg ea 12x3 Barbell 21's 10kg x2 (struggle) Tricep extension 10kg 12x3 Triceps dips 10x3 I also managed 1 paleo meal and drank three litres of water. So 3 points for today's effort! TOTAL: 12 points
  25. Ok so I had a week off because my son went in for routine surgery that was unfortunately followed by endless complications. He is doing a little better now so straight back into it. Workout today as follows (1 point) Dumb press 5kg ea 12x5 Machine press 18kg 10x5 Cable flyes 3.4kg ea 10x5 Single arm row 5kg 12x3 Lat pull 25kg 12x3 Barbell row 12.5kg 12x3 Back extensions 12-10-8 C25K W1D1 Just the 1 point today because baby steps. TOTAL: 9 points
