  1. Day 4 - October 27 1. 2. 96oz! YAY! 3. 4. Moved some money around to offset the dip in my savings. 5. Accomplished several important things on my list(s). 6. Was asked by another professor to start on a research project with him as well! 2 projects? Awesomeness! Today was a freaking long day. Girlfriend slipped and fell on the way to class - spent the morning (when I was hoping to hit the gym) in the ER! She broke a few fingers and tore several tendons/ligaments. Long road trip tomorrow and a very late night. However, on the bright side, my 21st is Saturday! Woo!
  2. Day 3 - October 26 1. Fail again 2. 42oz again! Win! 3. Fail 4. Paid off credit card - but at the cost of dipping into my meager savings. 5. Cleared a few items off my list, but added a few more. 6. Did some reading into specifics for the research and had a few things clarified in class today. Today was a mixed day - a couple fails, a small win and a very big win. I need to get off my ass and get working on my fitness goals more!
  3. That's actually the sort of stuff I'll have to take into consideration. It seemed like an interesting topic to me since it's not just one subject, you've got to look at all the different subjects that could be related to the ranking - politics, geography/location, technology/medicine, outside influences, economy, societal structure and the list goes on. The more criteria you choose and the more detailed the criteria are, the more accurate the final result will be - as is normally the case in any sort of experiment! I've always carried a 24oz Nalgene bottle with me and it's always full. For awhile, I was a HUGE water drinker - up to a gallon and a half or more a day - but with this new year of school came early mornings and with early mornings come coffee and since I get free refills on my 18oz mug, it's pretty easy just to fill it up and walk away 3 or 4 times a day. As I build up my water intake, I'm trying to decrease my coffee intake. And good luck to you, too!
  4. Still an undergraduate, but I'm an applied math major. The project I'm starting to work on is a mathematical model for comparison ranking of civilizations. Basically, look at the different aspects of a civilization - the economy, technology, military, and so on and all of the sub-criteria - rank them against each other and then compare the civilizations against each other to determine which civilization was/is truly the greatest. And thanks! I'm already at a full 48oz for today Tasty stuff!
  5. Day 2 - October 25 1. No exercise (again). Fail. 2. 48oz. water! Win! 3. No gym. However, I did attempt it. I showed up at 7am only to find out it was closed today while they bring in new equipment. Partial win. 4. Didn't go further into debt, but didn't dig my way out at all. Partial win. 5. Added to my list and removed a couple of easy items. 6. No work on the research project, but I did catch up on what I missed yesterday. Also, found out I'm failing a class! Woo! I have an exam on Thursday and I'm going to study my ass off tomorrow and Thursday morning and bring it up! Only a few more days until my birthday, too! For tomorrow: Class, class, class, study, finish comparison essay, study. Fun times. For now, though, reading for a bit and then bed.
  6. Day 1 - October 24 1. No exercise. 2. ~ 36oz. water 3. Didn't go to the gym. 4. Went to the movies (Paranormal Activity 3) with the lady friend - really shouldn't have. 5. Made a list of stuff to add to my calendar. 6. Missed a class (damn NyQuil) covering an important topic for my research project. Overall, I didn't do too much toward any of my goals. *sigh* Tomorrow morning, however, I'm planning on hitting up the gym before class and then talking to my professor about today's lecture topic (pairwise rankings in decision theory!). It's time for an episode of SG-1 and then bed.
  7. I've always wanted to participate in one of these challenges and I've always built myself up to it - and then never really started. That's going to change this time though! Fitness/Diet 1. Hit at least level 8 on Fitocracy (level 3 currently). 2. 48oz + of water each day and cut back to 1 mug of coffee. 3. Get comfortable at the gym by going at least 2x a week. Life 4. Pay off my credit card and learn to use it more wisely. 5. Use my calendar daily to keep a running todo list. Possible failure 6. Start my undergrad research project.
  8. I've decided to give up my status as a lurker and actually try this time! 5. Start my undergrad research project.

Hours is fine! How about you include your practice tests and I'll just tally up the hours for programming and math studying? That puts us on fairly even footing with the ability for me to still whip you!

    Theta's Game

@teh_geer: Like I said, name it and I'll beat you @afflictionreckoning: Study PvP would be awesome! How would you like to go about this? Hours per week? Sections per week? Name the game and I'm in!
  12. This will be my second challenge. The last time I attempted one, I flunked out a week or two in. This time around, I'm not going to. I just recently spent an afternoon reading Ender's Game (if you haven't read it and you like sci-fi books, you really should read it!) and have decided I'm going to model my changes around the changes Ender goes through. Sure, Ender had about six years and I've got six weeks, but that's still enough time to make some changes! ----- Ender started out at Battle School as a six year old boy, no where near being a man. He was forced into this new life with no way of backing out. Daily training and studying. Forced into new social situations. Forced to learn to take orders and give orders. Once his body, mind or emotions were worn out, he was forced to keep going, harder than before. He reached the breaking point several times and each time came back from it, stronger than ever. That's what I'm aiming for over these next six weeks. I'm going to push myself harder than ever before. And you know what? I'm going to push myself harder than you, just as Ender pushed himself harder than his classmates. Why? In the end, the weak follow and perish and the strong lead and survive. My fitness goals: -I have five weeks left in c25k. I'm going to finish it halfway through the challenge. -You're doing 1000 pushups, 1000 burpees? I'll do 1500. -I can do 2 pullups now. After six weeks, 20 will seem like a light warmup. My life and mind goals: -A book a week. 3 fiction, 3 non-fiction. -Finish my online portfolio. -Log at least 2 hours of programming a week. -Log at least 3 hours of math studying a week. Memorization, practice problems, whatever. -Research possible math related careers and blog about what I learn. Vitals: -Height: 1.7m -Weight: 89.3kg -BMI: Unsure. The electronic readout at the gym says ~18%. The online "calculators" say 28+%. Rewards: I have eight self goals. -If I complete half, I'll buy myself a NF t-shirt. -If I complete all eight, I'll buy myself a NF t-shirt and a Garmin Forerunner so I can stop using my phone. Finally, I want one of you - any of you, doesn't matter who - to give me a challenge. Give me a challenge that will push myself just like the challenges I laid out for myself and I will overcome it. Either have me complete the challenge myself or compete against me in the PvP Challenges board. I, like Ender, will either overcome the challenge or overcome you. Anyone up for a challenge?
  13. I'm in, definitely, but still need to work out my specific goals!
  14. Thanks, everyone, for all the great ideas! I'll be trying them over the next few weeks! I'm pretty excited for tomorrow's breakfast now.
  15. Each fall my family makes gallons of homemade salsa made entirely of ingredients we grow in our garden or buy at a farmer's market - I'll just use that instead And yes, I love scrambled eggs with salsa! Spezzy, that sounds pretty good. I'll have to try that - maybe combine it with Coke's salsa and eggs suggestion!
  16. My family receives somewhere around ten dozen+ farm fresh eggs each week - I've got a rather generous aunt with a bunch of chickens! I try to have them for breakfast each morning, but there are only so many times you can have scrambled eggs or a cheese and veggie omelet. Does anyone have any good breakfast-egg recipes that you'd be willing to share? I'm desperately in need of new ones!
  17. It was Things are going much better - the meds my doctor gave me have me feeling fit as a fiddle. I managed to get into the gym yesterday and go for a run today (it was absolutely beautiful out). It felt great to get outside and move around! Unfortunately, I've got a ton of school work to catch up on tonight, so boo
  18. Five egg omelette for breakfast? Hell yeah. Feta cheese, peppered bacon, mushroom, green peppers, garlic and hot red peppers? Mmm. That and a cup of Irish cream coffee, there's no better way to start the day!
  19. How's everyone doing with their challenges this month? I haven't been doing too well, but not for lack of trying. I just can't seem to stay not sick enough to get stuff done!
  20. The doctor was nice enough to inform me that I've got the flu! And then she was nice enough to prescribe me codeine At least I'm catching up on my sleep now, even if I can't do a single other damned thing =/ Glad you feel better, Gem!
  21. Well, it's Wednesday of week two and I've hardly done a thing this week. I guess that's what a cold will do to you. On the bright side, I've been knocking out books like nothing at all!
  22. http://www.amazon.com/Redwall-Cookbook-Companion-Books/dp/0399237917/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1297136294&sr=8-1]There is! And there are a ton of unofficial recipes all across the interwebs.
  23. Otters and the mice were always my favorite! I've been an avid reader of his works for twelve years now and am extremely sad to see him go. I love to cook and all of my favorite recipes come from the Redwall cookbook I bought off Amazon My all time favorite is the Otter's Shrimp and Hotroot stew! I think I'll spend the evening reading The Legend of Luke and having a cup of tea in his honor.
  24. No worries. Just ask away!
