  1. I have been debating the pros and cons of each at their extreme ends vs a combination approach, but I can't seem to decide I was wondering if any of you had tried something similar. A full schedule of martial arts could be considered a strength training regimen on its own, but the flexibility aspect appeals to me (considering I am on the not flexible side of things yet).  I'm not at a full schedule yet, but eventually I will be. For the mean time though I am considering adding yoga and strength training to my martial arts training.

At my disposal for strength training: A weight bench, a treadmill, a few free weights in the lower range, and my own body for bodyweight exercises. Just if it helps you decide which parts I should add or drop.

For yoga: I only have what is free online available currently. The only 2 yoga studios within a feasible distance were focused on advanced students and/or seemed very cult oriented.

    Thoughts?

Im in thr US, I havnt ordered a functional sword BUT I've used BudK for cheap swords, axes, machetes, throwing knives etc, the shipping is quick, the Gil hibbden throwing knives I got from them are good quality.

I know that BudK has functional (or battle ready as they call it) katanas, it's not going to be perfect and you really should read all the reviews and watch the video (they usualy like to show them cutting stuff with each item) of anything you consider BUT if you absolutely need something FAST your looking at $200.

  3. I'm posting this in the general monks forum because I need answers quickly. Initially I had been told I would have a sword for testing. That deal has fallen through the cracks. So now I'm in need of a sword. Can any of you give me a legitimate source following these guidelines:

    1. Katana for aikido

    2. Must be meant for cutting I have a guy who can sharpen if needed.

    3. I don't care if the scabbard is pretty or plain

    4. Rn I have a little over 600-700 I have access to, to spend on it readily.

    5. The handle can't be cheap plastic.

That said I need a reasonably priced sword on the double because it has to be here before March 7th (yikes [emoji33]) the sources I have seen online are a tad questionable. Does anyone have a trusted source or can anyone vouch for the online dealers?

    Thank you peeps!

  4. I've never used Meal Lime but I've used the desktop version of Eat This Much. It'll give you a two week meal plan and you can put in any food allergies and preferences, and set your calories and macros. Plus it'll generate a grocery list for you, and you can pick things that you like a lot so it'll pop up more frequently. I'm not sure how well the app works but it looks like it has all the same functions of the desktop version. You can also pick how many meals you want a day and it'll give you a meal/snack for each of them, so that might be more what you're looking for.

Or, you can use MyFitnessPal and just put in your food beforehand. I'll usually sit at work and do a few days in advance that way I have a plan on what to make when I go home. I like using EatThisMuch for inspiration if I'm completely stuck on what I want to eat, and then logging it all into MFP with whatever else I eat/drink during the day. Completely up to you [emoji4]

I actually just downloaded they eat this much app. I'll compare the desktop and app versions but from what you say it's definitely a lot closer to what I'm looking for than what I've seen so far.

Meal lime seems to be just dinner from further poking around

I enjoy the ability to pick a style of eating and then pick preferences of food and the app or website eliminating recipes with food you either have to avoid (allergies) or want to avoid (dislikes).

Thank you for your help om going to try eat this much for this next week's plan!

  5. I did the quick set up for the meal Lime app and gave me for recipes which should be the four remaining days this week I assume. The only issue is that all seem to be dinner recipes there's no lunch or breakfast. This isn't a huge problem I was just curious if there was a way to get it to get recipes for those meals or if it's just a dinner app. What are the apps or methods that you guys use that you think are better that can go between Android devices or possibly online.

  6. What are some workout add ons that you guys think are a necessity for your martial art. From basic to advanced I want to put a list together of the things all monks think are important. This means anything you think overall for any martial art, or any that are specific to your style. Like upper and lower body condidtioning(locations and reasoning), Stretches (type and reasoning). It doesn't need to be long drawn out explanations but I'm a curious person. Thank you for your time!

    Thanks Peeps!,

  7. !!!!!UPDATE!!!!!!!

I actually managed to keep up with EVERYTHING (good thing I actually enjoy reading) except the posting updates! THIS IS GOOD! I'm actually pretty pleased with my self 37e14cd2847fc21de638f3937282b337.jpg I'm working on my challenge for this month, my last challenge was still a 2 week challenge because I got horribly ill last week around tuesday, only really today have I been able to do actual activities. I probably won't be as ambitious this time and stick to a 2,2,1 ratio. Should I post the next challenge on this thread? Or is there something else todo? I don't think my challenges will ever line up with the monthly week line up but I'm feeling really into it now.

  8. What style of swords do you do?

Looks like a great challenge, and feel free to tweak it as you see it's needed!

Aikido! Not aikiken (a style of aikido with a heavier influence on sword patterns) my instructor studied in Japan (his dad was in the military) it's just a part of the style he was taught.

Sorry if I messed up the forums a bit, I'm new to using them as an active participant.

  9. The symmetry of this is going to be a little off, but since I'm late to the game anyways this will be the post for all my challenges I'll just update with the newest one each time maybe? If it doesn't work out right I'll just change the game, no harm in trying right? Besides the entire reasoning for this challenge is to steer me back on track to where I need to be. For the monk category I study Aikido with an influence from Taekwondo (The instructor does both)

    *cue long exasperated sigh*

Tons of family issues most of it in the extended bit but it's poured over into the immediate family and it's heavily skewing my ability to keep up with my workouts and my general will to stay on track and eat right. Which leads us to my very first 4 week challenge, or in this case my emergency 2 week challenge.

Here we go: Fitness and Diet
    1) Keep up with my workout plan (this means 3x per week)

    2) Make 4 at home dinners per week (healthy leanings, but homemade is better that extremely processed)

    3) Do the pushup building exercise (Everynight, Knuckle and Fingertip)

    4) Bokken Patterns each day

Level Up My Life 1 more than normal but an entirely doable extra one:

    5) Do makeup (at least follow a tutorial) 2 times a week.  I am not a makeup person for various reasons, but I want to become better at it so that I don't look like a clown when I do try.

    6) Read my new chemistry book, and my new math book. These are actual books on the basis of things within the separate fields, not like school type books, just interesting and informative. These elaborate on things though that will make my study in the two fields advance just a little more.

That's it for now, I'll be updating on mondays and fridays just so I can promote accountability and keep motivation.

  11. Looking for some ideas and methods when the people around me (at home) aren't on the same page. Sweets seem to be the only snacks at the house. Which brings me to part 2. I keep planning and organizing early morning workouts so my day is off to a good start, but again the household seems to be against me. Well in this case the neighborhood, not the nicest place yet I need to go running as a part of my fitness plan (the legs are not to be skipped.) Any tips or ideas? This is my plateau.
