  8. Hi all! I live in the graduate hospital area of the city. Would definitely be up for meeting fellow nerds. How would you guys feel about running a 5k together over the summer?
  9. It’s a question I’ve asked myself at least 100 times over the past few months. Who am I? Who do I want to be? How will I get there? Surprisingly deep questions for a fool like me. But let’s back it up for a moment. An introduction seems appropriate right now – My name is James. I’m a 27 year old tax accountant living in the city of brotherly love. 2016 has been a year of change to say the least. In December, my girlfriend and I broke up. It was the longest relationship of my life, clocking in at a little over 4 years. While it was mutual, and therefore as amicable as can be hoped for, it still affected me greatly. I spent the next few months experiencing a wide range of emotions – from an initial elated sense of freedom to almost soul crushing moments of loneliness and despair. So I took some time to mourn the loss of my relationship and I leaned on friends and family for emotional support. Eventually, life started to normalize. I began taking back the spaces in my life that I had previously given up. Then the pragmatic side of me took over. I realized I have a golden opportunity standing right in front of me. The breakup in December turned my life upside down, but that’s a good thing. Now is the perfect time to take stock of my life, affirm the parts I like and change the parts I don’t. My physique seemed like a good place to start (though I have plans to eventually address mental, emotional and spiritual aspects of my life as well). I’m 5’11 with (what used to be) an athletic body type. But the years have been unkind to my waist and I’ve finally pushed above 200 lbs for the first time in my life. So goal 1 is to drop the fat, add some muscle and get back to feeling good about my body. I did some research online and read a couple of books and came to the conclusion that I needed a two pronged approach to attain this goal. The first prong is related to food – so I started following the Perfect Health Diet (from what I can tell, it’s basically a modified Paleo diet). It’s a pretty drastic change for me - I love bread and pasta and peanut butter most of all. It’s been about a month or so since I started and while challenging, I’ve found it quite rewarding. I’d like to say I’m a good cook who just doesn’t have a lot of experience yet, so some of the dishes I’ve made have come out… questionable. But I am learning and improving daily. The second prong involves the gym, and is one of the reasons I signed up for this forum. I’ve been going to the gym a few times a week and have seen some gains. But I feel like gym routines need to change relatively frequently in order to avoid plateauing and I typically stop the moment I feel like I’m not making gains (or I get busy, or I get lazy, etc.). I’m hoping that this website will help me stick with the workouts, provide guidance with new workouts, and provide support/inspiration. I’ll start posting my workouts in the following days. If you took the time to read this crazy long post, thank you. I’ll leave you with a quote from a wise man; “Without ash to rise from, the Phoenix would just be a bird getting up.”
  10. Overall wheel of time was a good series. I found it started off amazing but then had a few slower/more annoying middle books and then picked back up for the last five or so books. Some of the female to male relationships and interactions can be frustrating as well during these middle books. Other than that, wot was great. Truly epic in every sense of the word. One of the best high fantasy series out there. And they released a pilot, which was made in the 11th hour bc the movie rights were about to expire a few months back. It was awful. Apparently the authors wife has taken the entertainment company that currently owns the movie rights to court. Who knows how that will turn out.
