  1. Welcome to the rebellion. Excellent goals and motivation you have there. As for the food, try some white fish fillets, like cod, haddock, plaice, trout, sea bass. They are all good neutral flavours and can be easily spiced up a little. I'm not the biggest fan of fish and sea food. But have started trying them over the last couple of years and really like them.
  2. Good luck with this Challenge. The singing isn't that bad, I've heard worse, in professional studios.
  3. Hi Kuz Welcome to the community. I'm not big on the weights knowledge, but there are plenty of the Warriors who do. Head over to them for any tips and advice. @SpecialSundae is extremely friendly and helpful and usually about for a chat.
  4. Welcome to the community. If you want to get into parkour, body weight training is the way to go. You want to go say hello to the Assassins too. Bit of an odd bunch, but they're friendly and always happy to help new recruits.
  5. Hello, welcome to the rebellion, from another British nerd. If you're a bit self conscious and dont have access to a gym, or are reluctant to join one, try out the beginner body weight workout. It's really easy to do at home. I started it last week and already feel better for it. Anyway, good luck with it all and feel free to hit me up for a chat.
  6. Welcome to the community. I went through similar struggles for years. At 24 I weighed the same as I had done at 14. I'm now encroaching on 34 and it's only within the last 5 years or so that I have become comfortable with food. The big change for me was starting a much more physically demanding job than I had been previously used to, when I was 23. It was the start of a gradual process of change that took the best part of 6 years for me to accept and come to terms with where I was at and where I had been. I would recommend you look at weight training if you wish to no longer be underweight. The Warriors are a good place to look for that.
  7. Welcome to the boards and the community. Nothing wrong with enjoying reading. I love reading, currently working through the Discworld series by Terry Pratchet, and love the Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice. I enjoy a good book or fantasy film over a game most days of the week. I tend to get bored with games too easily.
  8. Thank you. Been nice chatting to you too. Only just made the connection with the name though.
  9. I've not tried strava. Have used Map My Ride a few times, its ok, but not brilliant.
  10. I have a 5s which I've had for about 2 years now. It's nice and versatile and works well with my macbook
  11. Wel done, thats incredible form and strength.
  12. So I've decided that I want to be fit enough to go Deer Stalking next summer (roe season has just started here). I want to be able to trek for hours at a time with a rifle over my shoulder, then have the strength to gut & carry what I kill back to the car with out any issues. I've already started with the beginners body weight routine, done it twice so far this week. Once the wedding is out of the way, going to start introducing interval training on my bike as well. Then look into joining a shooting club to work on my marksmanship.
  13. Just been reminded of this awesome tune by Scotish outfit Mungo's Hi-fi
  14. Hi Krila, welcome to the rebellion. That's on hell of a story, glad you are recovering. As for the weight lifting questions, go find the Warriors section of the forums, thats what they're all about. and if you haven't yet, check out this article about one of the moderators here, @spezzy, http://www.nerdfitness.com/blog/2011/07/21/meet-staci-your-new-powerlifting-super-hero/ Good luck with it all.
  15. Thanks, I misread it as 0.5mb not 0.05mb (which is a tiny file size). I might have to find a different picture to get it small enough.
  16. Just found this thread. Seems the appropriate place to post it. I've so far been unable to upload a profile picture. The image I want to upload is a .jpg image of 390kb size. I'm using Safari on Mac OSX v10.11.4 Every time I try to upload, either file search or drag and drop, I get a blank pop up window that appears to either be an error or warning dialog, due to the inclusion of a triangle on the top left. But as there is no text, I cannot be sure of this.
  17. Welcome to the rebellion. Sorry to hear about the struggles you've had over the last year and condolences on the loss of your partner. You have some good, solid goals and motivations there. And it doesn't matter what the 'standard' for other people is. What's important is what you will be happy with. It is, after all, your life. Good luck with it all and may the Force be with you.
  18. The basic fitness requirements for the British army is 1.5 mile (2.4km) run in under 10m 29s, 45 sit ups & 50 push ups. My my suggestion would take you to that point, as a stepping stone towards your goal. It wasn't intended as a complete solution to your problem. Something else you you will want to work on, which won't be covered, is walking at pace in boots with a pack on. Working up to about 30-40kg and up to 8 miles. Will help your feet get used to it gradually so you have fewer issues with them during your training. Good luck with it all
  19. Hello, I suppose this is the part where I bore you all with who I am? Vitals: Male, 33, 5'9", 11st 13lbs (167lbs for those that way inclined), engaged, no children (yet). So when I was younger, I was pretty much a scout with a bad diet. Lots of stamina, but not a great deal of strength. (More than) A few reincarnations later, and that particular group of abilities have all but been lost. So here to try to regain them, as well as develop some warrior strength. With the ultimate goal to be a druid/monk-ranger. My primary goal in the approaching summer is to increase my strength, and generally become more active. Then looking more long term, I want to increase my stamina to be able to go on long hikes or rides, and eventually be able to have a full day adventuring with my children (when I have them). I've been bouncing around the site and forum for a few days now and received my copy of 'Level Up Your Life' today, so started ploughing through that already. I'm already feeling better about my outlook on things and found some tips I plan to put into place gradually. Embarking on this adventure with my soon-to-be wife (we are to be wed in less than 2 weeks from now). As we both want to improve our health and fitness. So that's me and I'm here. Now to try to figure out more of these forums and challenges.
  20. Usually the same kind of things that runners and cyclists monitor: speed, distance, time and heart rate. At least that's what would be monitored with a device like that.
  21. I can be quite picky as well, I don't like cheese, Mayo, mushrooms, tomatoes (along with tons of other stuff), which makes finding a sandwich at a store pretty damn hard. But there are still loads of options available. Especially if you like some types of meat and/or fish. Live never been a big fan of fish, but have recently started trying different types of white fish. Sea Bass has become my new favourite fish (closely followed by plaice & trout). Pan fried or wrapped in foil & baked, served with some boiled potatoes & steamed veg is a healthy, tasty & filling meal. Las @porchcricket13 said, just try it. The worst case is you won't like it and spit it out. And I agree that Thai food is very good for masking the flavour of things you might not like, while having loads of quick, simple and healthy meals to choose from.
  22. There is an app available on the App Store (think it's on Google play as well, but not 100% on that) made for the british army to help potential recruits be ready for the start of basic training in 12 weeks. It's called 100%Army Fit and uses a combination of running and body weight exercises at different levels to help you build up a reasonable level of fitness to pass the entry exam for the British army. I would imagine there are similar resources available to the US army as well. They won't get you ready for commando training, but should help you get to a point where you can start the training program you have without too many issues.
