  1. I can cut slack for adaptions to some extent. I prefer LOTR movies to the books because they ramble so much. On the other hand, I was going to watch a version The Secret Garden this weekend and had to shut it down ten minutes in because I was so annoyed with the plot alterations- there was no reason to make that change (earthquake instead of cholera epidemic) and it didn't work with the plot. I reread the book instead.

I'm looking forward to seeing HG- I haven't read the books yet, so we'll see how it goes.

  2. So Saturday and Sunday I walked. I was going to work out Sunday, but wasn't feeling well so I put it off. Monday, I walked again, Tuesday was my regular dance class and Wednesday was supposed to be a workout day. I had a migraine download, so I stuck to a gentle walk. Thursday, I did circuits again and was going to go for a walk when I called home and found out that our senior Aussie Addie had to be put to sleep. Really wasn't in the mood to do much more than cry. I am kind of proud of myself for not going face-first into my chocolate stash. I'm a stress eater and carbs are my drug of choice. I also managed to get to bed at a reasonable hour, eat a real breakfast instead of junk and get to work without crying on the way. Of course, now I'm crying again.

  3. One suggestion I have is to quit reading women's magazines if you're doing that. They juxtapose fattening recipes with workout tips, show models whose profession it is to be pin-thin in clothing that's financially out of reach and generally add to rather than reduce your stress load.

I also agree with tracking- I've been doing it for several months and it's helped me spot patterns. "I just ate a bag of gumdrops and six cookies. Why? A-hah! Aunt Flow is on her way. Right. Lock up the junk, take a walk and get to bed early." I can break the cycle before it gets away from me.

  4. I probably have asthma, but haven't been diagnosed because I don't want to :-P I have issues with inhalers though, do to some horrible experiences when I was very young. I'm absolutely terrified of them. So I won't go to the doctor because I'm afraid they'll give me an inhaler.

I don't hesitate to exercise at all. I make a point of building up to levels of exercise slowly, so it's not an issue as often, and I over-hydrate. Drinking water, for some reason, makes me breathe again.

My "asthma" seems to be triggered by a combination of exertion and heat. So I'm fine working out if the temperature is nice, but if it gets really hot, I have to be very very careful or I'll stop breathing. Mostly I just keep water on me all of the time and drink constantly, and that seems to stave off the worst.

Just so you know, there are other options for asthma meds- it's not all inhalers. In fact, I never used an inhaler until a few years ago, and now I'm not even on that. A good pulmonary specialist is what you want. They can advise you on what's available.

  5. Oh, f@ck, taxes. I started 'em, then forgot about them. And the dog-license renewal is due by April 1.

    (2) Kicked my ass at CF, left, and pulled my thumbnail away from the cuticle turning on my car - I swear, only I can make it through the various coordination things that CF requires, and then injure myself turning a key! AAARRGH!

I just ripped off one of my nails off picking up my backpack. I don't even know how, just suddenly there was a chunk of nail hanging and a lot of cuticle showing.

But hey, you survived your first crossfit class! Go you!

  6. When I start backsliding, I try to take one healthy step. Take a walk. Get away from the junk food and the computer. Relax- this isn't a marathon, it's a break. Then, after half an hour or so of walking, I'm more relaxed and less likely to beat myself up: "You tragic wench of sloth and gluttony, you just ate a whole bag of gummy penguins!" "They were good and now I don't want any more, so go bug someone else."
