  1. Sounds like you had an awesome time at the happy hour, even if you didn't feel so well the next day. I like the idea of doing something active for the next one. It's practically summer, which means golf, frisbee, parks, cookouts, pool and all sorts of wonderful activities are opening up for us. Hiking around Great Falls is fun too. Nerd Fitness movie night, anyone? No? Trivia? I'm totally like you when it comes to social events. I consider myself a complete extrovert...but only after I've had a few drinks. I think of it as social lubrication. And hell, I just enjoy a good night of social drinking. I just don't enjoy the hangover that comes with it that night or the next day. But if I'm sober in a group setting where I don't really know anyone, I can be extremely introverted. Just depends on the day. LoL.
  2. Thanks for your support, Quembelle. I'm feeling much better after my workout yesterday. I could really feel the burn during the workout (omg, especially during the lunges!!) And, I got into bed around 9. I haven't been sleeping too well lately, so getting to bed early was nice. Definitely feeling more optimistic today.
  3. HAHAHAHAHAHA. Love Staci's line! Sounds like you have a lot going on, and you're battling it out while you're asleep.
  4. Congratulations on all of your succes with the first week! It's very motivating as an outsider to see that you were able to stick to your goals. And way to go on arranging the NF meetup! I'm so disappointed I couldn't attend, but I will definitely be in tow at the next event.
  5. Quembelle - that sounds like so much fun! I wish I had gone, as I've already broken some of my goals. Definitely keep me updated on when the next meetup is! So how many people showed up? Update: Thursday night I got a text from a "frenemy", blasting me for defriending her on Facebook, etc. Although very bitchy of her, it made me ask myself if I handled the situation correctly. I seem to have a pattern of ignoring issues and instead of confronting people, I run away from them. She wasn't a close friend anyway, which is why I thought cutting ties was the best way to go. I made a quiet exit, but damn, some people must have a tracker on their Facebook to let them know when someone defriends them because it was only like 2 days later that I received her text! Also, another friend told the frenemy everything I had ever confided to her about the frenemy, which she threw in my face in the text. Just a lot of girl drama this weekend. Made me kind of depressed. Don't know why I let it bother me, but it does. Had me second guessing my ability to handle relationships, how to control my jealousy (part of the reason I didn't like her was because I thought she flirted with my boyfriend), and how to communicate better. Depression led to "I want all the food!". Pizza and beer on Friday night. Cinco de Mayo drinks and chips and queso on Saturday. Popeyes chicken (and a biscuit!) for breakfast on Sunday. Oh, and 4 drinks on Sunday night at a wedding reception. To top off my horrible-no good-very bad weekend, I caved into hookah. 3 days in a row. I am so failing at paleo. I was doing so well too... The positives of the weekend (trying to look for some nugget of hope in all of this): I walked to and from the farmer's market on Saturday morning. I gardened on Sunday. I bought 2 yoga dvds (I've been wanting to try something to supplement my rest days). Feeling like a failure right now. Got the gym bag packed and ready to go this afternoon after work. Still feeling blah, but hoping I'll be able to get out of this funk soon!!!
  6. Mind over matter! You can do this! I weighed and measured myself the first night of the challenge, even though I had just done it that morning for statistical purposes. And I did the same thing last night and this morning. I need to step back too!! Let's do this!
  7. Are you starting out at week 1 of C25K and working your way up to week 6? Or are you already at week 6? Love that you have a plan to accomplish your goals! Good luck! Also, there are a few awesome threads in this forum about book recommendations - check it out if you're looking for something new to read or have something to recommend yourself!
  8. Welcome, Rayner! Glad you took the plunge and decided to join the community. Everyone here is so helpful. Just give a shout if you need anything! When you say "stick to the paleo diet", do you mean eat a paleo diet 100% of the time? 80/20? Only during the week? Being more specific with this goal will help you in the long run. Good luck, I'm a recent paleo convert myself!
  9. Nats game?? I'm sure you'll have several people meet up with you on Monday (I'm still undecided). If you ever want to meet up at a bar or restaurant for lunch during the weekend, I'd be happy to meet up! I live in Reston on the weekends with my boyfriend and we're always looking for someone new to hang out with. Cookout, anyone??
  10. Good luck with your challenge! That bodybuilding workout looks interesting!
  11. NerdFitness T-Shirt and my entrance fee into a Warrior Dash in September!
  12. Quembelle - I did very well during the last 6 week challenge. But after it was over I started having happy hour 2-3 times per week. During this time I would drink half a bottle of wine and smoke hookah for hours. I decided on the 'no happy hours/going out during the week' goal because I thought it would help me avoid hookah, and cut back on drinking and eating bad food. I love social drinking - not sure I could meet up for NF without my brew. I might sit this one out...I see that you're in Fairfax though. I live with my boyfriend in Reston on the weekends, so if you ever want to do a cookout or meet up for drinks then, I'd totally be up for it. Update on the hookah: On Monday night, as I was struggling with the temptation of smoking, my friend/neighbor brought her hookah up. I told her that I wasn't smoking anymore, but she left the hookah in my place with promises of picking it up after she went to the gym. It's been 3 days and it's stilll in my apartment...but I haven't smoked it once!! I'm not even tempted to. After work I go straight to the gym, then I cook a healthy paleo meal. Update on fitness: I just realized that my trip to Puerto Rico is only 9 weeks away. It is my goal to go surfing - I don't know why I didn't put in a specific goal to surfing in my challenge!! I need to build up core and upper body strength. Going to surf the web today to find good training programs and incorporate that into my workouts during the week. Once the pools open, I'll obviously try to get as much time in swimming as I can (why, oh why, do pools have to open over Memorial Day weekend??) If anyone has any ideas of specific routines I can add to my workout, I'm all ears!!
