  1. When I do them I always begin in a handstand position but my legs are bent down with knees resting on my elbows. This allows for an aggressive 'kip' up into a locked out position as I explode my legs up and the momentum helps to my arms and legs to gain full extension. Worked for me today as we did 'Rosa' 5 rounds of 10 HSPU + 400m run. maybe not the way to gain the strength to perform strict handstand push up but sure helps in a WOD.
  2. I am a paleo loner in my house too. I solve their lack of interest by doing most of the cooking. They end up eating paleo without even knowing it. Suckers. That said, there are times when they want something, like spaghetti, and I cant fool them. In this case I just sub out the pasta with something else like spinach or spaghetti squash.
  3. Check out this podcast from Robb Wolf. Dave Werner has the model for Crossfit gym's that everyone who owns a box should roll out. Truly a great conversation between two greats in health/fitness/nutrition. http://robbwolf.com/2012/09/18/dave-werner-episode-150/
  4. IMO CF will have the issues with bad trainers as long as they continue with the current business model. Currently CFHQ deploy zero controls on the boxes that use their name. The Level 1 course (which I am attending next month) does not appear to be a gruelling session and I would guess everyone leaves with a cert. Beyond the L1 cert CFHQ offers no specialized tools/training to box owners to make their businesses more successful that I am aware of. What makes the typical franchised business successful? They have a recipe for success no matter who the owner is. If they do not follow the recipe then they're out. I don't blame CFHQ for their model as it has been tremendously successful thus far. The caveat is that some boxes will have weak trainers that run the risk of making the product (CF) look shitty. Myself I love CF. It works for me and I want to work my ass off every single day I am there. It isn't for everybody but what program is? My biggest beef is that they kicked out Robb Wolf - dude is wicked smart.
  5. as i continue to make my way through this strict diet thing I have noticed that one needs to be ready to cook and chop their way to success. I find I have the greatest successes when I spend time cooking a crap load of chicken/beef/lamb/fish etc and chopping up all my veggies ahead of time. If everything is already prepped I have no excuses. Also a good microwave steamer is a big plus - I use mine daily for frozen veggies like broc, b.sprouts etc. I know it is working. I am getting comments from peeps at my box that I am looking leaner and asking what I am doing...so there ya have it. a little work goes a long way toward success.
  6. Is chat gone? I haven't been able to login for weeks now.
  7. honestly i am a little nervous. i am not the fittest dude around so this is a little intimidating.
  8. I'm in Ontario Canada. My course is in Toronto.
  9. Probably. My box is in need of trainers. I am most interested in working with kids. My son is into CF and I love watching these kids progress and learn new skills.
  10. Signed up for the Crossfit Level 1 trainers course today. Hoping it will be a good time and should learn lots.
  11. I like the Whole30 plan (a lot) however - a $15 email service? Seems to me that they are digging a little too deep into our pockets. The book was alright but was not far off from the guide they sold for $40. Honestly, I am a little turned off by this.
  12. those video's are awesome. should be required material for oly lifting.
  13. We did Badger a week or so ago. Brutal! Everyone at our box were a wreck - in fact I don't think many even finished (we had a 30 min limit).
  14. I am considering taking the Level 1 Trainers Crossfit cert. Anyone here taken the course? Any suggestions/recommendations/comments? Many thanks.
  15. Good advice - actually GREAT advice. Trust your gut and don't be pushed around by doctors, teachers, whoever....this literally saved my boys life a number of times.
