  1. Time to try this again...My weight has been about the same for the past 3 years - that is, overweight. Now I am starting to show signs of arthritis in my right hip. Oh, and I am also on the borderline of being pre-diabetic. So time to buckle down and go for it. This time, my work has a pilot program with online coaching to help me lose weight. It's not nerd fitness, but it keeps me accountable. Surprisingly enough, it's not "high carbs/healthy whole grains, low fat" like I expected. So we'll see how things go. Next step is to start the Nerd Fitness beginner body weight workout. Thanks for listening to me
  2. You may also try a run/walk/run program, such as Galloway http://www.jeffgalloway.com/ You take walk breaks in between running segments. This can get you in good enough shape to eventually phase out the walk breaks. As someone with bad feet, I heartily agree with the advise to get good running shoes.
  3. I have done one of the Runner's World running programs for beginners - I repeated each week. No problem with that - it just gives your body more time to adapt to the exercise. Best of luck with your running, Salinger!
  4. It's not only how much you eat, but what you eat. If you only eat 1,000 calories a day, your body will react differently to 1,000 calories of candy vs 1,000 calories of protein. Gary Taubes has a good book explaining this... http://garytaubes.com/works/books/why-we-get-fat/
  5. Fictional: Eowyn Heather Kerkonen Taizu from "The Paladin" Historical: the WASPs - awesome WW2 pilots Francis Clayton - dressed as a man and fought in the American Civil War Lyudmila Pavlichenko - WW2 Russian sniper - 309 confirmed kills Lots of inspirational bad asses out there. I love the links you are all providing for modern day athletes like Clare Miller...
