  1. CalvinHobbes, This depends on a couple of things. Are you still friends with this ex? Do you at least semi-regularly communicate or socialize? Have you met the soon to be spouse and are on good terms with them? If so then go and have fun as you would at any friends wedding. However it does not sound like this is the case and I would respectfully decline. Sincerely, Squire Of Pitt
  2. Greetings To All, I wanted to formally introduce myself to the Runners' Guild For anyone interested in my general forum introduction click here. I have recently began (again) a journey to become more fit and healthy. Previous attempts have all revolved around a gym and some diet. They never worked for me. Couting callories and being in a box for hours working out never sataisfied me and I got bored, frustrated and gave up. I decided to do a 5K in the middle of the last attempt and at about 8 week out I realized I was not getting it done on the gym track or treadmill. So I took my training outside. That made all the difference. For one week I just started out running until I was out of breath or my legs hurt to much and walked back to recover. I did this for a week running one day and just walking the next and then decided to see if there was a better training program out there. I found this: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/5k-run/SM00061 This seems to be a perfect fit for me among some of the 8 week beginner 5K programs I found out there. Right now I'm day three into the first week of this program and will he heading home from work to change and go run. Any comments on this program or your own stories of going from beginner to a 5k would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Squire Of Pitt

  4. A friend of mine runs marathons, she seems to get allot out it and that was part of the reason I signed up for the 5k.My goals right now are weight loss, endurance and then strength. I'm focused on this 5k for now and don't want to risk any injury by lifting. But once that is done I want to get back in the gym and to the free weight room instead of the machines as I prepare for some other 5k events if I can find any. Squire Of Pitt
  5. I've looked up beginner 5k training programs and most of them are between 6-10 weeks, most about 8 weeks and that is exactly where I am at. I'm defiantly not looking to make any certain time. But finishing and running all or a significant majority of it is my goal. Squire Of Pitt
  6. Greetings All, Since college graduation 10 years ago I have steadily become more lazy and larger adding 35lbs and 4" to my waistline. It has been bothering me for a while and has included in a few failed attempts at joining a gym. It never held my interest and got boring FAST! As a way to motivate myself as I was stretching out my latest new bigger pants only a few months after buying them around the holidays I registered for the 5K run that is part with the Pittsburgh Marathon weekend. I failed to do any real training over the winter and now I'm 7 weeks out to the 5k and I've only been running outside for a week. However I love being outside. I actually want to go running in the park (North Park specifically for the Yinzers out there). I've also signed up for a season of Kayak rental Through Venture Outdoors/Kayak Pittsburgh and plan on hitting the local hiking trails. My biggest gripe at the gym was mostly running/biking/or other cardio equipment and not really going anywhere. I'm still keeping the membership as after the 5k I want to take a hard look at getting a good free weight routine in and not the weight machine routine I had before. Squire Of Pitt
